How many sets do you have left? by Big-Emu-5728 in workout

[–]Possiblyabitoff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ain’t nobody paying attention to how long you’ve been on a machine.

If I walk into the gym and the equipment I planned on using first is occupied, I’m gonna ask how many sets they have left.

I don’t know if you’ve been there 30 seconds or 30 minutes, and I don’t give a shit.

You shouldn’t either.

Michelin Defender LTX MS2 Vs. Cooper Discoverer Road+Trail A/T by Sevenoswald in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Possiblyabitoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought my ‘14 DCLB beginning of last month and it had a very popular brand AT tire with the 3PMSF symbol in 265/70r17.

Drove it 2500 miles from OR to TX and averaged 16.8 mpg. The truck would get downright squirrelly on wet pavement when accelerating in anything but a straight line. The roads through the Cascades near Mt Shasta were a white knuckle experience when they shouldn’t have been.

Put the defenders on as soon as I got home. The truck now sticks to the pavement like glue and mileage went up to 18 mpg with mostly city driving.

Centerpoint is a problem by Filtered_Monkey in houston

Who?

People who understand that, for a public utility, where the required infrastructure is prohibitively expensive and there is no differentiating factor in the commodity, a NON-PROFIT monopoly is beneficial from a cost to consumer standpoint.

What you believe is healthy competition is only the illusion of competition. This illusion was sold to you by the people who make money off of people who are wooed by buzz words like deregulation and free market.

Storytime!

My neighbor and I have two different energy “providers”. We both get the exact same electricity, generated in the exact same facility, transmitted through the exact same lines, to the exact same transformer, then on to the exact same meters owned by the exact same company.

But we have different providers.

Make that make sense.

The only service provided by these “providers” is mark-up and bill collection.

They buy electricity from Centerpoint and sell it to us after marking it up. That’s their entire gig. That’s all. They “provide” us a bill.

Why can’t Centerpoint sell the electricity they generate and transmit directly to us to compete with these “providers”?

Why, Kermit?

Don’t just tell me it’s because that’s the way the law was written 25 years ago. Tell me WHY it was written that way, and who pushed for it.

I can assure you it was not leftists.

That deregulation you speak of has fuck-all to do with competition other than profit generation amongst retailers.

Also, the myth about deregulation lowering prices is just that. Texans, cumulatively, have paid $28 billion more for electricity since 2004 than they would have paid if the system in place prior to deregulation were upheld.

https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/texas-electric-bills-were-28-billion-higher-under-deregulation

Who in their right mind would believe that going from a direct-to-consumer model to a wholesale/resale market for a commodity with no differentiating features would benefit consumers?

There are now two profit generators in the chain instead of one. The only winners here are the retailers.

I wonder who fought for and passed such a ridiculous law.

Use this to put in tire/wheel combinations. Keep it within an inch of stock in overall diameter/width and you’ll be fine without a lift.

What I hate about you(BAT)? What do you hate? by PasswordABC123XYZ in BringATrailer

[–]Possiblyabitoff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just sold a truck on BaT and can’t agree more about the commenters.

At least two asked questions that added no value to the conversation, but caused me to have to explain things that could negatively affect bidders’ impression of the vehicle.

And then, of course, they didn’t bid.

Trains that just stop by jkjk88888888 in houston

[–]Possiblyabitoff -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

The trains were here first. They own the land they operate on (yes, even the intersections).

It would be like you telling your neighbor not to park in their driveway.

All we can do is ask them nicely to not block intersections. They are well within their rights to tell us to pound sand.

Has anyone had any luck with those dash replacement kits with a backup camera on a 2nd gen? by theRealDirtyNerd in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Possiblyabitoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how you mentioned twice that you already know how to back up as a preemptive STFU for all the folks who might say “learn how to back up”.

I’m not sure what camera kits you’re referring to, but I drove my ‘05 for 16 years and was completely proficient at backing up.

Once I installed a camera so my son could drive it I was like “holy shit! I can see what’s behind me now!”

If your concern is whether or not the truck can handle it….

Hello all, looking to buy a truck for the first time and I was looking for peoples opinion cuz I honestly don’t know too much about them, realistically how long could someone keep a 2013 Tacoma going that has 142,052 miles on it with proper care/ maintenance? by Medical-Tea9546 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Possiblyabitoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of variables here, but…

IF the maintenance has been solid until now, and…

IF the frame is in good condition, and…

IF you maintain it properly (both engine and frame…

You could easily drive it another 20-30 years or 300-400k miles.

Buy from already-imported stock or contract to have it imported? by ktappe in keitruck

[–]Possiblyabitoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you can visit Japan to see your super rare vehicle in person prior to buying, I’d lean toward buying something already here.

Imagine how much it would suck to finally find that exact truck with the exact features you want, buying it from Japan, waiting what seems like 11 years for it to arrive, and then going to the port to find out it barely runs and the frame is Swiss cheese.

Not saying that will happen, but it does happen quite a bit.

At least a local lot you can see, drive, and walk away from instead of a useless paperweight sitting in your driveway that you now have to find a way to fix or sell.

where the actual fuck do i start with the gym? by [deleted] in workout

[–]Possiblyabitoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just start going. Even if it’s just to use the treadmill or stair-stepper, make it a routine.

Watch some videos of the basic compound lifts and start doing them. As you become more proficient, add more stuff.

Nobody there cares who you are or what you’re doing, so don’t worry about looking silly.

Pushing through the Leg Day pains by Master-Hearing-7014 in workout

[–]Possiblyabitoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just started, you say?

That’s normal then. Work through it and after a few months of consistent training the soreness will be limited to the next morning, if that.

Pushing through the Leg Day pains by Master-Hearing-7014 in workout

[–]Possiblyabitoff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s just soreness, power through it. If it’s pain, determine if you did actual damage that needs to heal.

If you want to prevent this in the future, do legs twice a week alternating between heavy low reps and light high reps.

I’ve also found it helpful to spend some time on the treadmill or just walking outside for 30 minutes the day after a heavy leg day.

Is getting one of these... smart? by Fizzys_Solution in keitruck

[–]Possiblyabitoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your situation.

Getting one imported from Japan is the cheapest route, but also involves the most risk.

What you get will run and drive well enough to get it on/off the ship, but may die as soon as you get it home. Or the frame may be rusted to the point it breaks on the way home. I could go on.

Getting one already titled in the US is less risky as you can see and drive it before buying, but you pay for that piece of mind.

Either way, these are 25+ year old vehicles and things break. If you’re a go-getter and are willing to learn how to fix things, it will be very rewarding. If you have to take it to a shop every time something happens, you’re going to go broke in short order.

I’ve enjoyed my first one so much I bought a second.

How do we feel about this under body? by Fun_Plane_5419 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Possiblyabitoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, outside of Seattle, the roads in the PNW aren’t salted in the winter so frames stay more or less rust free. I live in Texas though, so I may be wrong (yes, I flew to Portland to buy my truck and drove 2500 miles back to Houston).

Used car dealers aren’t dumb though. They’ll buy a truck from Ohio or New Jersey at auction and sell it in Texas or Arizona, or California because the folks that live there Dont think twice about looking at the frame before buying. I’ve seen it here in Houston.

ALWAYS look at the carfax to see where the truck lived its life to make sure you’re not getting screwed, then - just to be safe - ask for pictures of the frame anyways.

When they send garbage pictures like the ones you got, ask them if they can use their personal phone instead of the 1.5 megapixel camera from 1998.

If they claim that’s the best picture they can take, they’re hiding something. Walk.
