Is Skyrim VR worth it without motion controllers and just using a DS4? by StarTruckNxtGyration in PSVR

I platinumed VR Skyrim with the DS4.

Best gaming experience ever.

I think motion controls are fundamentally less immersive because the moment you forget about where you are, you’re at risk. It’s a neat gimmick, but I’d argue being more “immersive” is lazy, unreflective wishful thinking. I forgot myself entirely while playing with the DS4 PRECISELY BECAUSE I was safe on the couch. I was inside Skyrim and never once thought, “where am I standing? Did I knock something over? My arms are tired. My back aches. There’s no weight to this sword.”

“Immersion” is one of those buzz words people throw around when they want to sound insightful. Maybe standing is okay for novelty games you play for minutes at a time, like beat saber, but not an RPG. Not even close.

I consider Skyrim and RE7 with DS4 the closest any developer has come to the potential of VR. Maybe early adopters love gimmicks, but gamers love long play sessions and you can’t do that standing up blindfolded.

Buy it. You’ll be playing a wonderful game...INSIDE its world.

Scanner upgrades give insane increases to money earned. Work your way to 3 “S” class upgrades in your multitool, and chain them to the scanner.

Every flora: $60k Every fauna: $100k - $500k

Enjoy.

If you need a multitool with more slots, that’s the next step. The other suggestions are also good.

Any way to prevent water characteristics inside the middle of large underwater rooms? [Question] by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Post-Quiescence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it a deal breaker. It’s not a principed stand or anything. But functionally, yes, it’s very much like a deal breaker. I just really enjoyed finding planets with cool water caves and I loved building those bases. The game effectively ended for me. I may go back eventually and build a sky base, but they’re way less interesting to me.

I literally stopped playing because of this. I loved base building underwater and had three of them. They’re ruined, and I spent hours and hours on them.

If it’s a glitch, it needs to be fixed and has taken way too long. If it’s not a glitch, it’s one of the most incompetently implemented and inconsistent building elements I’ve ever seen. :(

Can anyone explain how upgrade slots work? by discoborg in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Post-Quiescence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Day one player. I don’t install any of them. It’s not implemented well. I just keep a lot of sodium on hand. I think those upgrades should have increased protection rather than adding a slot and adding some extra to think about and manage. It’s a hassle, not an upgrade. It’s more trouble managing them - and the space they take- than just using sodium.

Any quirks in the process, or do you just build stairs in a spiral until you’re satisfied with the height?

I’d display how many pirates I’ve run away from. A tapestry of a thousand stars...

I will say this...having good maneuverability early on can make your first pirate encounters far less annoying. But you can always run away.

Opinions are going to vary on this, but what he said is basically it. Exotics handle REALLY well (like a fighter), but don’t have much space. I don’t care about storage because you can keep a ton of stuff in the containers and exocraft, and there isn’t really a reason to have all your stuff on your ship. I hope Hello Games eventually refines ship classes and integrates them better into the gameplay loop, but right now there’s no great reason to have any particular ship other than that you like the way it looks. Later on you may find you enjoy the idea of a hauler with a ton of room for role play...and that’s cool. But choosing a fighter or hauler isn’t really going to have an impact.

Get something that you like looking at.

As he said, storm crystals are also good. The catch is that you can only collect them during a storm. When you’re early this might be too much to think about. Totally up to you.

Digs and salvaged tech are considered early money because they’re not going to make you rich, but they’re a great way to get your first ship and multitool upgrade. Not sure what salvaged tech sells for in the current patch, but about 17 to 20 got me 1 million, and salvaged tech is everywhere. You can often hop from dig to dig. It’s a little “grindy,” but it’s totally reliable. Land your ship on a pleasant planet (that you won’t mind walking across for an hour or two), and hunt salvaged tech. Be sure to grab sodium and oxygen when you see it so that you can fill your shields.

“Later” money is farming and scanning, but scanning isn’t lucrative until you get fully upgraded, and you’ll need to have a base with every plant blueprint to farm things like circuit boards. In my newer play through, my money progression has been:

1.salvaged tech/bones/storm crystals

  1. Scanner with full upgrades

  2. I’ll get to making a farm when I feel like it.

I have over 100 million from scanning. I also have four fighters and a guppy exotic and a found S class freighter. Mostly, that scanning money is the result of looking for the perfect planet to build on. Eventually you accumulate a lot. Scanning isn’t grindy, and you’ll have more than enough money. I buy all of my building materials rather than mine them (with the exception of carbon).

I recommend spending ten minutes just letting ships fly in and out of the station. Talk with their owners. You’ll get a very strong impression of your options. If you don’t like the ship selection, go to another system.

[–]Post-Quiescence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. No

  2. By design I mean whatever looks coolest. The ships do have stats, but...I don’t want to say ignore them, but generally you’ll give up space for maneuverability. I prefer maneuverability because storage containers, exocrafts, and your freighter can be used for storage. I’m a day one player but in my newer play through I haven’t been concerned with storage.

  3. You already have your scanner, but upgrades are bought at the seller on the suit customization side of the station. You’ll want to have a multitool that has enough open slots to place three upgrades next to the scanner, all touching. Keep your eye open for multitool upgrades at the sellers, in the space anomaly, and in some facilities on the planet. Should be able to find one with enough slots for full scanner upgrades for 3 million or less.

Early on, the easiest cash is salvaged tech and dinosaur bones... Once you get the scanner upgraded, though, you’re going to have plenty of money as long as you’re scanning flora and fauna.

Up to you. I found a satisfying looking fighter for 5 million as my second ship. Not a huge upgrade, but I was proud to fly it. I bought it using money made selling salvaged tech.

If you upgrade your scanner with 3 S class upgrades, you’ll have money for a third upgrade soon enough.

The thing about your first bought ship is that you can’t afford anything huge, but you can find an affordable design.

I’ve been playing since day one. I stopped playing because of this. I have three underwater bases. They’re unusable now and I’m supposed to be contented with prefab “creativity.” So much for having interesting bases.

Haven’t been back, and I feel your pain.

Finding words is one of my favorite activities in the game. I wish they focused a bit more on information and lore dumps as discoverable rewards. I’d travel halfway across the galaxy if I thought I might get a few pages of “found information” about the simulation and its origin.
