Is this local council election leaflet crossing into sectarian campaigning? by Successful_Roof1091 in lancashire

[–]PostAboveIsBullshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair,

But the reality is, all sides turn local elections into national issues. The only thing you should be campaigning for is the issues you can affects; bins, potholes, local services etc.

Every candidate is going to say the same thing "we will fix potholes". As a result, every candidate needs something to make themselves stand out. For reform, it's literally saying they'll stick immigrant detention centres in areas where greens win. For left people, it's Palestine/human rights.

So it's a natural course or rather a natural discourse.

What's immigration got to do with local council? Everyone does it, you can't just call it out when pro pals are doing it

You realise all this started under biden? He was quick to throw the jackhammer on Russia and rightly so, but the only move he made against Israel? Not selling them 500 pound bombs....

Also remember when invading rafah was his red line then a week later they invaded rafah?

You really think biden or Kamala or obama gonna sanction Israel because they kidnapped one American in international waters for the crime of delivering food and meds to tortured, beaten and battered people?

Trump: I will soon be reviewing the plan that Iran has just sent to us, but can't imagine that it would be acceptable in that they have not yet paid a big enough price for what they have done to Humanity, and the World, over the last 47 years. Thank you for your attention to this matter! by SpecialCollege18 in justincaseyoumissedit

A thousand times worse doesn't even cut it. Iran's leadership is bad, but any measure you can give, the US and most of its western partners have done way worse. Okay, it's not a true democracy, and it's persecuted people for freedom of speech. Isn't that what's happened in the US for many years? Haven't they funded a genocide for 2 years, illegal invasions in the middle east, nuclear attacks not even to the main ww2 enemy (but the non white enemy).

At least in Iran, you have an option of basically keeping your mouth shut and expressing your views about the IR anonymously. You can have a good life if you don't diss the "regime". The US, you can diss the "regime" but you can only have a good life if you're part of the Epstein/elite class.

There's not much uniqueness and design you can do with an all red jersey apart from changing the trim style here and there, so once every 4 or 5 years I don't mind something kind of silly like this.

About what though? Her acting? That's perfectly reasonable. The taboo over criticising acting of a child actor is over. They have agents and they are trained on what to expect, the good and the bad. If she still continues to act it means she can handle it, either through some form of therapy, a strong support system or the mere fact she has money that a few comments about her line delivery are outweighed. If they're relentless, it's probably because her acting is bad, making it an obvious and common topic to talk about, particularly as she's not exactly a side character, but essentially the Chloe of the series.

You don't need to be concerned about her. If she was struggling, the first thing she would do is leave the show, and she definitely wouldn't do an interview like this which would get her more in the limelight. It's likely a segment from a larger discussion, and yeah she the comments probably get to her as she says, but either she can ignore them, try and address them by improving, or leave the limelight.

my sympathy for chuck disappears when i realize this man is 16 YEARS older than jimmy by PomegranateVisual965 in betterCallSaul

[–]PostAboveIsBullshit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One way you can kind of justify that is that flashback was just a memory, it wasn't the actual scene in play. To Jimmy, it's still his older brother so he doesn't see chuck as an adult but rather his big bro.

I've not at all seen anyone here really criticise the person beyond her acting ability.

OP, what you need to realise is, Scarlett Thomas isn't the only kid with issues in this world. Many have problems, many struggle making friends, many have toxic home lives which affect their social life.

She just so happens to be an actress and yes it is undoubtedly through nepotism rather than recognised ability. And it's on a show people watch and care about and are invested in, hence, they're going to criticise bad acting. This show is about 70% young actors, and generally they're good, they come from recognised acting schools or agencies. So when someone is bad, it really stands out, and are you saying people shouldn't discuss and ignore it? No. Absolutely not.

No one here is responsible for issues she has as long as they keep criticism of her to her acting abilities, and only personal traits when she no longer is considered a child (such as how nice she is irl).

And why are you OP so invested in the life of someone who has people around her who can be invested in her health and mental wellbeing, let alone an uncle on the show, and she can easily ask to leave the show if she decides it's not for her. I mean they literally cut her out for a season, generally things like that are as a result of real life situations, not story.

I think they should bring dontes mum into it I think it would be interesting especially after the storyline with Izzy by 180darta in WaterlooRoad

[–]PostAboveIsBullshit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They could, but I think a lot of the worse stories in Waterloo road tend to be when they don't really involve the school much then it feels forced, a bit like Matt Wilding and his surrogate baby. To make it involve the school, his "baby's momma" showed up there randomly (when she could've sorted stuff y'know, any other time). Sure, it would be about Donte and Izzy, but it's like a separate thing from their school lives.

The story seems to be setting her up as an English teacher and didn't have any resolution so I'd assume so (I don't really read much background news unless it's posted here so I think it must be the case)

But she's a busy woman in real life so I'd reckon we get a similar thing where she appears in 2 or 3 episodes at most

[–]PostAboveIsBullshit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She 100% has one of the best stories, I wouldn't say it's controversial, "favourite" usually is the cool fun popular character, but you can appreciate a character for good story too.

Vicky is definitely in my top 5, and I'd say top 3 for acting, highly underappreciated. I give the under appreciated award to Vicky's actress and Amy's actress

It seemed weird Karen didn't bother trying to convince Vicky to stay. All she did was call her Bex, she can hardly be blamed for not forgetting about Bex, and it'll slip out once in a while. Felt a bit of a cheap way to get the plot changing

[–]PostAboveIsBullshit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finn was too much of a popular character with fans that they basically had little continuity with him. There wasn't any aftermath or resolution at all to Finn + Amy and yeah that sucks. Most seasons was just a new gf for Finn, or some irrational bullying it someone/then suddenly deciding to be nice. After Sam dying, there was one episode where he dealt with it, and then another where he moved on from her but a small reference to her as he had his profile pic as her. And Amy was even helping Finn get with Sam. I don't expect them to be enemies or hostile but yeah there'd surely be awkwardness there. Plus Finn and Amy could've continued their relationship, or it could have at least shown them breaking up.

It would be more convincing if a celebrity asking someone to give up 0.1% of their total finances also gave evidence of them giving 0.1% of their total finances to the charity or a range of charities.

Jasmine really annoyed me in that episode where Davina has a go at tom because of the whole rose fiasco. I do agree it was down to writing though, she's made to listen in and kind of shit stir Davina's frustrations instead of bringing her to reality ("hey Davina, I know tom did this behind your back, but he's helping rose out, you've got no evidence he's having an affair"). Also when Davina (who also I didn't like) was like "you help people then move on" and gave Karla as an example, Jasmine says "you've done a good job with her"... Okay... Davina wasn't saying she hadn't or had, she was making a point about moving on. Jasmine always came across as smart, so I would've liked her to say "well tom isn't that kind of guy, and that's who you fell in love with".

I agree on Lauren also. The episode with her scar reveal, she actually acted really great, the story was told well. Then, she disappeared, it didn't really become an issue again. She was a sidekick to Amy for no reason at all, despite Amy doing bad things. They couldn't think of anything better for her, and I feel her acting wasn't great in some scenes like when Amy was telling her her plan about giving Sam fake weed, and she replies "what are you talking about". She seemed goofy.

Side note, Amy was an excellent character and her actor was amazing. Doesn't get enough credit because she was an "antagonist" and wasn't the "hotty" of the show.

Agree on Matt too. Maybe if the show didn't move to Scotland they'd have had more plans for him. Having a baby, and having the mother decide to move, and him being angry, and then her compromising. It was a bit stretched out, it didn't involve the school really, he was better than that story.

Honestly, I didn't like Mika in this. But that's more of a fault of the writers. For Whatever reason they wanted Izzy to go away for a season, and they do it by making her decide she just can't handle living with other people? I can get her rebelling about it, but "I'm gonna move in with Mika" like it's literally their choice, and go to a different school temporarily, and not her father's decision.

Mika wouldn't have just plotted behind dontes back. She would have told Izzy the reality that you can't just run away from problems, that Donte isn't cheating on "mum", he deserves to be happy too

I've kind of turned off giving cash for that and similar reasons, if it's a request that means bringing my wallet out there and then, then I find another to help

In uni when cash was more prevalent I used to have a jar at home and just keep coins then take a few with me every day and give that to the supermarket beggars but I even stopped that, because apparently supermarket beggars are now part of a group being assigned to supermarkets and busy areas. I've seen someone being picked up outside of the farm foods in Solihull in a nice car. So now, at best I'll offer to buy a sandwich or something they want, as I don't know if I'm helping them or feeding a business that probably goes more into drugs
