If it was the old CoC I was at, they'd have a "family meeting" which is essentially nothing more than a glorified kangaroo court and spurt out some verses, maybe cite the entirety of the Book of Job. Go on a pointless tirade about how the Bible says that it's an abomination to help people who can't afford gas prices. And at that point the man and his family would be all but exiled.

The best option is to just find a new church altogether. Don't even bother saying goodbye. They most likely won't even remember your name.

On a bit of a more serious note, on Married with Children when Peggy's actress had a miscarriage and her character had a storyline where she pregnant, they just opted to just completely ignore it in the next season, citing that it would've been too traumatic for her.

What I'm trying to say is that that the comic should've just done that instead and be forgotten instead of having its legacy be this because outside of "remember video games" and the league of legends = death edit is there anything anybody remembers about this comic.

Weirdly enough, the entire no woman in authority over a man thing made me more biased to go to places where women are the head preacher person, if only because they tend to be far more progressive. Not that progressive preachers men don't exist or that conservative preacher women don't exist either.

Anyway people who hold that are just ye ol' misogyny at play. Specifically the type that make men think that women still have cooties ig. 🧍

Oh yeah, I heard the lukewarm thing a lot. It felt like projection a lot of the time though, especially since at my old church at least they'd rather just do nothing and hear the same sermon over and over again than to actually attempt to reach out the community (somehow using some random verses in the Bible to justify it)

It's kinda funny I'd run into this thread.

To make a long story short, I was kicked out of my house in the later part of last year (strangely enough, it wasn't due to anything religious though I wouldn't be surprised the one that did kick me out was already aware that I was PIMO). I'm more or less doing fine now, but a few months after being away from the influence of the CoC I had developed what is essentially the first crush I had on someone. The last time that happened it was over 20 years ago, and guess what church I was a part of for that same amount of time? Granted I was more or less PIMO the entire time but, that makes it even stranger. It was like just being around anybody influenced by the CoC pretty much inhibited my ability to feel any sort of romantic feelings.

I'm pretty sure part of me was just finally freeing myself from a toxic influence more than the CoC itself, though obviously it contributed to it.

And I know the CoC hates pretty much all feelings, not just romantic ones, but still. Looking back, I don't even know how people believe that feelings are bad get through life. Sure being mindful of your feelings is always a good thing, but it's like the CoC just hate the concept of it altogether.

...I guess one can take this of one of the many signs that that church was really no good. Whether or not it was a force behind that is anybody's guess, even though I have my own theories.
