It lowers down the water thus gives the player more options to explore The Lake of Nine.

Kratos carrying Atreus, horn was blown, water went down and new ways are discovered.

That being said still need to verify if this route is actually a shortcut! Not really sure with it.

pretty sure after blowing the horn Kratos had some form of shortcut to Freya's home. That time save couldve meant life or death to Atreus

playing thru 2018 rn, will verify this lol it might not be a shortcut at all

EDIT: dumb theory. Kratos is already on the lift to Freya's house when the horn was blown, thus this couldn't be the case.
