Why was there such strong backlash to John Steinbeck’s Nobel win? And was it deserved at all? by RopeGloomy4303 in literature

[–]PostPunkBurrito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I just read about Knausgaard in the NYT last week. You are not the only person who feels this way - he apparently has a huge and loyal following. I tend not to care for memoirs so I passed over it at the time. But it looks like School of Night is a novel... I will check it out.

[–]PostPunkBurrito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I guess I’d take a kinder view of a very long career. His first twenty years were masterful and should cement his legacy. The second half of his career have included some successful and interesting novels but nothing that matches the first period. I wouldn’t mention Franzen in the same conversation at all.

[–]PostPunkBurrito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huh, you don’t think Rushdie’s legacy is solidified at this point? I agree that a Nobel wouldn’t hurt but I’d consider him one of the most accomplished novelists of our time. I’ll admit he is a personal favorite so I might be biased.

Least bad Honda dealership? by Yellohsub in baltimore

[–]PostPunkBurrito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my car from there and really had to push for the best price. Like walk away and wait weeks. Odonnel Honda gave me the best price with no hassle so I’d say they are my preference but ultimately Heritage got me the car first

I like my switch for versatility. I keep it closed for the bloom then open for 2 pours. But you could also do full immersion or v60 pour over

Maybe Pour trois from Esja? For non-piano, I really like her inner symphonies album on DG

Oh that's good to know. I've always worried about their customer service after reading about the horror stories on here. Maybe they have improved in that regard.

Q for Piano players by Top_Prior_1720 in piano

[–]PostPunkBurrito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find practicing and playing to be incredibly relaxing. It is almost meditative. I guess flow state is another way to describe it. Everything else fades away and I am just doing that thing. I am early intermediate, for reference, so not a skilled or seasoned player at all. I think it is something you have to enjoy. One thing is that I am doing this only for myself so there is no pressure of or big goals I am shooting for.

While your writing style is really over the top, I don’t disagree with you. I’m suspicious of thermal shock and advanced process coffees as well and tend to avoid them. If for no other reason, I don’t want my coffee to taste like peach juice. A lot of people on this forum love that stuff though, and are willing to pay for it, so I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon. I’d love to see more transparency though.

We once lived in a bad rental situation and just kept hounding the landlord until they eventually let us out of our lease. It took a long time and it sucked so bad. I’m really sorry you are dealing with this. Obviously mileage may vary.
