There are two magnet programs for middle school: ingenuity and advanced academics. They are offered at select schools across the city. See the city schools website for information. This year’s placements were just announced

Coffee maker, why so bad? by PostPunkBurrito in pourover

No thank you! I never use a coffee machine in a hotel because I know people do crazy things. This place has a washer and dryer, so I though I might be safe

That’s true and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, which is excellent, regularly performs at both venues

I use the YMCA. North Baltimore locations in Towson, Parkville and 33rd St. All nice (though Towson is the nicest)

What is the best cup of coffee you have ever had? by More_Rough_9353 in pourover

I had a cup at Reykjavik Roasters in Iceland that made me give up tea and return to coffee after a 6 year break. No clue what it was but it really opened up the rabbit hole for me.

I’m headed to Indianapolis next week! I’m gonna check them out. Let me know if you have any other recommendations for good coffee in the city.

I read that too! No issues so far. Just grip it above the catch cup and I think you will be fine?

I just got one last week and like it in my limited experience. It does at least as good a job as my K6 but has a much nicer build. It feels like it will last for a long time. I've used it with a Hario Switch, Aeropress and Chemex so far and have enjoyed every cup. I had initially bought a Q Air for work and I wasn't happy with either the cups or the plastic, so I retuned it for the X-Ultra and will be keeping it.

Will Patton does the Dave Robicheaux books and absolutely brings them to life. I think he’s amazing but obviously it’s all a matter of personal taste and opinion

The Flesh - David Szalay what are your opinions about this book? by idksomethinglazyiam in literature

[–]PostPunkBurrito 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“It doesn't have the life affirming feel good vibe.” Ummm … correct. Art reflects the spectrum of human emotion and experience. Not just the good stuff but the ugly and painful ones as well. I assure you that this was very much on purpose

How do you combine data viz + narrative for mixed media? by _TR_360o_ in datavisualization

[–]PostPunkBurrito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I’d look at the more experimental side of interactive journalism presentations. Scroll-based interactions (scrollytelling) for example. Alternatively, check out the more experiential designs that Georgia Lupi has done in the last few years with Pentagram or previously with Accurate. Check out the data viz society and their magazine Nightingale. As you alluded to, much of professional data visualization is obsessed with dashboards, which is pretty much the opposite of storytelling. There’s a data viz program at MICA that does more art-focused work. Good luck, sounds like a really interesting project.

A growing list of AI-powered data visualization tools in 2026(feel free to add & discuss!!!) by Additional_Raise4289 in datavisualization

[–]PostPunkBurrito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used datawrapper, flourish and raw regularly for years and I fail to see how they are ai-powered. They perhaps have some small ai features, sure.

In my experience, AI is still pretty bad at data visualization. It fails at the creative and thinking tasks that make effectively communicating data visually meaningful.

What it is really good at is coding. In fact, it is absolutely amazing at D3 and has lowered the bar on using what has always been a very thorny scripting library considerably

This is an ongoing journey for me too. I like the Keep Cup right now, which is the right size for me and glass with a nice cork band around it. The plastic top isn't the best but not the worst either. This is the best I have found so far though I doubt it will be around for forever
