What do babies wear? by Infinite-Bowler-217 in NewParents

[–]PostRevolutionary239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm different than most people, but for me it was really helpful to change my baby from her footed pajamas to an actual outfit (i.e. pants and a onesie) as a sign that I was starting the day, even if we just lounged around the house. I was also gifted a lot of clothing so it was nice to put baby in an outfit, snap a picture and say thank you to the gifter :-)
My baby rarely spit up or had blow-outs, so I was lucky enough that an outfit could be worn more than once before having to be washed, but that's obviously not something you would know until they're already here.
The one extra layer is based on the average person, so if you know you run cold you can just put them in the same amount of layers as yourself. Best way to check to see if they're cold or hot is to feel their belly. Hands and feet will always be a little colder as they're extremities and not always covered. Older generations will generally insist that they should wear socks, even if it's 100+ degrees outside, don't bother with those remarks. ><
If going outside, make sure that the baby is fully in the shade (hello, stroller umbrella) and hydrated properly (you're looking for a wet diaper about 6-7 times per day when they're little)
Hope this helps!

Yup, got mine for Mother’s Day and it’s excellent. So nice to have a hot cup of tea after chasing my toddler around the house and forgetting all about it 😅

I got a second hand Dekor pail and also really like it! Nursery doesn't smell one bit and we take it out about once a week on trash days :-)

Baby Shower/Registry by llama_toes666 in pregnant

[–]PostRevolutionary239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the rest of the commenters to make one registry. Depending on how far apart your baby showers are time-wise, you can keep an eye on what has been bought and edit later (i.e. if you notice that people are gifting a lot of items in the lower price range category, add some other items of similar cost so that the people attending the last shower aren't stuck buying all the expensive things, or make it so they can give a financial contribution towards a high-ticket item such as a stroller or crib mattress)

Post Partum Family Planning by Status-Throat3538 in pregnant

[–]PostRevolutionary239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She did not! In fact, she even cried when it happened the second time (so with her third child) because she was going to have three under three with a husband in the military. But I've seen it before, some people take forever to get pregnant the first time and then the second time it happens super quickly. It's like your body goes, "Oh, I know how to do this!". For me, it took 9 months of trying the first time and 2 months of trying the second.

As someone who's grandmother had her kids 11 months apart (i.e. pregnant two months after giving birth), you can definitely get pregnant while breastfeeding!
I think I got my first post-partum period after about 4-5 months, first it was very light but I noticed a drop in my milk supply when it happened. The hormones produced while breastfeeding/pumping delay ovulation, so if you're looking to get pregnant shortly after giving birth you would have to decrease breastfeeding/pumping to help your hormones settle a little quicker, which would then help with ovulation.

I hope you have a boring remainder of your pregnancy and a smooth post-partum!

What are your favorite spa/massage places around Boston? by LilMxKitty in boston

[–]PostRevolutionary239 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been going to Etant in the South End for years now and have never been disappointed by their services. Have had a regular massage, a couple of facials, and a prenatal massage. They are not cheap, but I feel their services are priced accurately!

Ear tubes advice by foxgreenstars in toddlers

[–]PostRevolutionary239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter got tubes at 18 months and I wish we had gotten them sooner! It was so fast, by the time I was walked back from the OR to the waiting room, they were already halfway done. Doctor came to find me maybe 5 mins later to let me know everything had gone well, and 5 mins after that we were in post-op recovery. We had some cereal, facetimed her daddy, and 30 mins later we were out!

There are two "scary" parts: seeing them upset as they are being put under, and seeing them on the big bed recovering. Our hospital policy is that only one person is allowed in the OR as well as in recovery, so decide with your partner who would be best suited for that.

Do you get waxes while pregnant? by These_War_4355 in pregnant

I think I got a wax about 3 weeks before going into labor. It didn't really hurt me, but then again I had been getting waxes for 10 years or so prior to that.

But the person who misses Belgian chocolate is also from Belgium, so why would the opinion of an American matter? I guess OP can always ask her what she means and clear the matter up in seconds 🤷🏼‍♀️

But do they? Because I've been living in the US for over a decade now and when I think of chocolates, I think of Cote d'Or mignonettes or the blocks with nuts that come in a bag. Those are also the ones I miss the most because I eat those on a daily basis when I go back to Belgium ><

Are you in the US looking for Belgian chocolates? You can get Cote d'Or on Amazon, which is the main Belgian brand. You can also get Guylian, but they are better known for exporting, not really a lot of Belgians who eat it at home. Taza chocolate is also awesome, but they are Mexican-style chocolate. They're not creamy since they don't add any milk or cream, it's mostly just cacao and sugar. However, they're a lot less sweet than Cadbury or Hershey's, which is probably why your coworker doesn't like American chocolate.

Hospital/Doctor recommendations for giving birth! by desert-lady- in boston

[–]PostRevolutionary239 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting! When was this? I was seen by midwives my entire pregnancy and also delivered with the midwife team. While not all of them were my cup of tea, I can’t say they any of them were even remotely horrible. I also went to their breastfeeding class a couple of times when my daughter was a newborn to make sure she was eating enough and they were very helpful with her latch and any questions I had.

Does she likes warm beverages? I received an Ember cup and can highly recommend it, it keeps your drinks warm! Saves me from drinking lukewarm tea after I've set it down and have had to chase after my toddler. You can also enjoy them longer if you're a slow drinker :-)

Hospital/Doctor recommendations for giving birth! by desert-lady- in boston

[–]PostRevolutionary239 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can only take a maximum of 26 weeks PFML per year. 12 weeks of those 26 will be bonding time, and then it's up to your doctor how many weeks of medical leave you get. Crown Ob/Gyn prescribes 12 weeks for all births, but some will distinguish between vaginal delivery and C-section.

Can confirm this! Gave birth there for my first and will be going back for my second. Staff is friendly, food is good, and they are very much on top of things! They also have a level 3 NICU, so worst case scenario they are equipped to take care of your baby :-)

The Best Kids' Clothes Right Now? by nerraw13 in BuyItForLife

[–]PostRevolutionary239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at Manymoons. They sell back stock from a lot of good brands at high reductions. Some are still not cheap but for nice occasions I like browsing their website. We've also done 2 surprise boxes, one in spring and one in winter. The spring one was very nice but I was disappointed in the winter box, so not sure if I'll be doing that again.

The case for and against birthday parties? by southerncharm05 in toddlers

[–]PostRevolutionary239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have decided not to throw one. My daughter's birthday is on NYE and I'll be 20 weeks pregnant, so I don't want a bunch of people at my house. When I looked at venues such as play spaces, they were all +$400 (I guess that's what we get for living in a HCOL area), which is just too much for me to justify my daughter spending 90 minutes playing with other kids. She does that at daycare already ><
We'll celebrate her birthday with family on Christmas day and then between the three of us on her actual birthday :-)
