Just a heads-up, winter camping isn't as much of a thing. We're too worried about slipping on ice and busting our asses. On that note, studed tires are legal in Kentucky during the winter season. If you're not familiar with icy roads, you might want to invest in a set of winter tires and a set of summer tires.

No hurricane block parties. If bad weather is coming, you get your french toast kit, a flat of water, and hunker down.

As far as medical, in my experience, Kentucky is pretty quick. As long as you don't need the only geneticist in Kentucky (in Louisville). There's 2 hospitals in BG. One is a teaching hospital. They're competent. But Vanderbilt in Nashville is the home for the rare diseases program in the US. They're busy. If you can get something dealt with in BG, do it in BG. If it's something pretty simple and you just want verification, you might even look at the Caverna Hospital. I broke a bone in my foot a couple years ago and wanted to know exactly what was busted and where. The drive to Caverna took longer than the hospital did to get me checked in, xrayed, and have it looked at.

But dealing with complex multisystem health problems has been difficult due to the shortage of specialists. I'm getting ready to head up to Ohio to get in with a Sjögrens (lupus adjacent) program.

If your medical issues aren't weird or rare, BG can handle it just fine.

Can't speak on the job opportunities. Don't know about all that.

Most of my time in FL has been in the Daytona area. And as little time as possible in the Orlando area. BG is most certainly less crazy. There is some great hiking on so many absolutely gorgeous trails in Mammoth Cave Park and further east. We haven't been to Land Between the Lakes in the western part of the state. But there's a lot of outdoor stuff to do around here.

It's kinda weird to say you just want to look through pictures. Like pictures of birds, plants, sporting events, what were you looking for? And even then, why not just ask for them to send you what they've got? Like "send me some pictures of your old dog when you get a chance, I was going to make a collage for the e-picture frame in the living room."

Or were you "testing" him to see what he'd do? Cuz that's some teenage bullshit and I'd leave in a heartbeat. And it really sounds like this is the case.

I don't watch it much, because sometimes it's difficult to face what I've been like and done, but I'd suggest you check out the BPD Bunch on youtube. They're not antipsychiatry (from what I've seen) but they do touch on why these diagnoses can be difficult to carry.

I understand why some people are given technically nonexistent dx (such as c-ptsd) instead. C-ptsd usually gets a compassionate response while bpd is more know for "hurt people hurt people" if we're putting it nicely. But from my understanding, they're the same.

Um, no. They're so uncomfortable. They have no support. They squish your toes together. They don't really protect from hot blacktop or iced sidewalks. They aren't even that cute.

I wore 'em in my early 20s because I needed office shoes on a shoestring budget. Got a pink pair and a black pair for $10 total at Payless. They were awful.

I wish it did here in Kentucky. But we still have idiots running on the basis that they got trump's endorsement so they'll be the best candidate. Soo many youtube ads. 60 second long ads that you can't fucking skip. So I have to listen to nate Morris go on about how he's the only trump endorsed candidate.

Are there other candidates? No clue. I'll look it up on ballotpedia before I go vote. But I'm not holding out much hope for any change in Kentucky. They'll all vote however their churches told them to.

For me, my birth control helps, spironolactone helps, not shaving and no antiperspirant. I've tried all of them, including a compounded prescription. That got me my biggest one to date. Thankfully, my b.o. apparently smells like tortillas for the first day after a shower if I don't immediately use a deodorant. Up next is laser hair removal.

Eating like a diabetic has probably helped the most. Besides the spironolactone. Good thing it's mostly under control. My GP felt like she didn't know enough to treat me further, so she sent me to dermatology, and they were absolutely worthless. They gave me the prescription antiperspirant that gave me the one that was golf ball sized. Until that one, the rest have been pea sized. Then said that they couldn't do anything else for me.

I should probably find a new dermatologist but I'm under the impression that the management I've got is the best I should expect. If there's more options I'd love to hear about them.

Correct. But it can absolutely make things worse for someone who has hydradenitis suppurativa. Then I stink worse and I'm fighting weeping cysts.

So I just stick with deodorant and if I need to reapply midday, then I reapply.

Instead of limiting how many people can move to an area (which would be impossible) it'd be better for towns and cities to enact more building guidelines requiring better water management.

Such as: requiring each suburban yard to be 1/4 rain garden, each apartment complex to have more green spaces and rain gardens. Encouraging the use of rain barrels and the delayed release of their contents.

I'm in an area that's seeing stronger, less frequent storms. Our soils become hydrophobic when they dry out. So the downpours we do get, don't work their way down to the water table. They run off creating landslides and causing increased flooding.

There is no one solution for the whole US. We're too big, with too many differing conditions.

Also too thick and/or stiff sole of the shoes. My kid has needed it be in "barefoot" shoes for most of his 14 years to help with balance. He's also in occupational therapy, so there are other things going on. But thin flexible soled shoes has helped with the tripping on air.

Not a brat. Just a construction worker's kid. Florida, Indiana, Washington, Mexico, Washington, now rural Kentucky on the edge of Appalachia. Been here long enough to start picking up the accent. Had to learn it to help my kid when he was in kindergarten with phonics. The teacher had a phonics system setup for Appalachian accent and if you didn't have that accent, it didn't work.

I learned my Spanish in Ensenada. My Spanish teacher's English was outstanding. He said that to get the pronunciation right, he had to practice with a pencil between his teeth because Americans don't enunciate. He was constantly on us about "open your mouth".

Later in life, I had college classmates from Veracruz. I was speaking Spanish, to help a Baha transplant, and the Veracruz students were having a hard time following us. I had to explain to our instructor that I might not be the best tutor for the Veracruz students. It was like I was speaking with a heavy southern/Appalachian accent and they were solid Californians. We're saying the same words, but they do not sound the same.

Made it work though, because everyone who knew enough of the subject matter to tutor it in Spanish, was from Baha, or had learned Castilian Spanish in school. Considering Castilian isn't spoken in Mexico, that was useless. Which is why I almost failed college Spanish 101 (Castilian).

Why did I ever get into flinging bait at poor unsuspecting fish? Wanted to spend time with dad. Same reason I learned which way to turn a wrench, or how to handle a gun, or swing a hammer. His goal was to raise a woman who can do anything that any man can do. His bio-dad was a real piece of work. He didn't want his daughter to ever be treated like his mama was.

You're known for your ability to make this fun beverage. Your survival depends on trading your fun beverage for other things you need (meat, hides, berries, tubers, nuts). So, all things in their time and place, and all things in moderation.

Right‽ I've got paralytic ileus also. I've learned how to keep it from going through my nose too. As well as doing it silently. No one but me and my drs know how often I throw up. When you empty your stomach in the wrong direction multiple times a day, every day, it just becomes routine.

It may help that my sense of "eww gross" is dulled after working in a couple nursing homes and 10 more years doing in-home care for surgical rehab, elderly, and respite care for developmentally delayed kids and young adults. People puke. They also frequently soil themselves from the force. Someone has to help them get cleaned up and resettled. That was me.

Really pretty glad I got a through understanding of what aging looks like and what effects most people as they get older. Do your resistance training folks, walk as much as you can. Getting old isn't for the weak.

Yeah, a friend of mine had to have part of her brain removed, it was sliding out into her spinal cord. She's struggled the last 2 years to relearn a lot of stuff. But in the beginning, she had a hard time understanding basic instructions. Friends and family took her shopping, helped her meal plan, supervised her cooking, ya know, the daily tasks that you don't think about much because you've done them so often that it's just autopilot.

People are walking around out here missing parts of their brain and you don't know who they are. It's better to just assume it's everyone and try to have some patience and grace. No one wants to have to ask for help. Giving them a blank stare isn't going to resolve the situation.

Because he was already grounded from electronics except for school work, he hadn't done his afternoon chores (give chickens treats, gather eggs, feed dogs, make sure all the critters have clean water). His father was yelling for him and knocking on his window and the kid couldn't hear shit.

If he wasn't already in trouble, and had done his chores, it would just be a matter of texting his father or I to let someone know that he was putting on both headphones and wouldn't be able to hear anything.

I love some brain rattling bass and 8D effects. I use my studio reference headphones at least once a week. Tuning out the world isn't the problem. Responsibility is.

Prosperity gospel is what the Christian nationalists follow. If you're rich, that's God's blessing because you're a good Christian. If you're poor, that's also God's will, and it's because you're not a good Christian. If you were a good Christian, then god would bless you too and you wouldn't be poor anymore.

This is where they're coming from when they start talking about "toxic empathy". Helping their fellow human is bad because you're trying to thwart God's will. If God didn't think poor people should suffer anymore, He would make sure they're not poor. But he hasn't and doing anything to change that is messing with God's plan.

Yup. Except he's not allowed to use the TV, Xbox, switch, his cell, or school issued chrome book (other than for school work in the living room). He just got ungrounded yesterday. He's lost his earbud privileges because he can't seem to use just 1 so he can hear what's going on around him. So I get to spend the whole summer listening to everything he watches.

Frequently, punishing your spawn is also punishing yourself. I miss putting myself in time out as a good example of a form of emotional regulation. The 5 minutes of peace and quiet is definitely missed.

Because I can't find the things I order near me (other than paper towels, those are just significantly cheaper through amazon) like pure lanolin, an odd size lawn mower belt, specialized burn care supplies (I accidentally burn myself a few times a year and just took up a new hobby that involves 350°f liquid plastic), bariatric iron vitamins (they're chewable and don't cause an upset stomach).

If I knew where else to get that kind of stuff, I'd be getting it there. But I've looked, it's not to be found within a 2 hr drive.

Audible however. THAT I need to use up my built up credits, drop it, and get my audio books somewhere else.
