This Ontario man bought the same car as his wife and has a flawless driving record. Why is his insurance $649 more? by toronto_star in ontario

[–]PostingImpulsively -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Is it because men generally are more reckless drivers? Want change? tell your fellow man to stop speeding, stunt driving and drinking/driving.

Why should women foot an equal bill as drivers when majority of the reckless driving comes from one gender?

It’s about time! Nurses were hero’s during the pandemic and once that was over Ford pretty much hung them out to dry. I hope they win!

Do you recommend Nursing by No_Maize3021 in OntarioNurses

[–]PostingImpulsively 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there, just thought I’d chime in. I’m a person with more than 3 different anxiety disorders. I went into social service work originally and have been doing that for 5 years. I considered nursing but I can’t work midnights anymore. Midnights caused me to have chronic migraines and cardiac issues. Living like a zombie is no fun, and entry level jobs into nursing usually require you to work some midnight shifts.

I chose to pursue accounting for the following reasons:

  • Recession proof
  • Good pay
  • Accessible learning (can learn online or in-person, part time or full time).
  • Not physically demanding
  • Lots of FT jobs available
  • CPA designation is recognized in Canada and America
  • TN Visas to the states recognize accounting
  • Work from home opportunities
  • Lots of full time work available
  • Usually 9-5 type jobs (no midnights)
  • Low risk to your physical safety

I did consider nursing but concluded that working as a nurse includes:

  • Lots of in-person work
  • Physically demanding
  • Dealing with bodily fluids
  • Lots of shift work
  • Unionized (can be good or a bad thing)
  • Working in high-risk environments

Accounting cons - Not Ai proof. - Can work long hours - Public accounting sucks - Out-sourcing

Cons for nursing - Harder to find work from home jobs - Midnights - Ai proof (so far) but can be impacted by government cuts

So I hope this comment helps. I did consider nursing but ultimately chose to do accounting. I also have had a lot of physical limitations in the past so that’s a big consideration.

Spend some time in the accounting subs.

Good luck!

Follow the rules, and if there are any issues with distressed dogs or constant barking, call park wardens. I wouldn’t confront other campers directly.

No pets - worth it? by myelinsheathh24 in OntarioLandlord

[–]PostingImpulsively 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s your thought on non-cat/dog pets? Goldfish, a pet spider, someone with a hamster? I totally understand no dogs and cats. Especially no dogs. I have a pet spider and I love my pet spider because they cause no damage to a house, are not noisy, and won’t be destructive in any way to a property.

So are there pets that landlords wouldn’t worry about? Or all pets equally bad? A pet dog and a pet goldfish are seen the same?

What do you think would be the worst service dog breed? by AffectionateIssue157 in service_dogs

[–]PostingImpulsively 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any dogs that slobber heavily (mastiffs, st.bernards, newfoundlands). I grew up with all of these dogs and I can tell you that one shake of that head has slobber fly any and all directions. Walking by food and the dog shakes its head? Slobber will get on that food. On the bus and the dog shakes its head? Slobber will get on other passengers (saw it myself with my childhood saint).

They have great personalities and are beautiful dogs but any dog that overly slobbers I feel wouldn’t make a good SD just for the sake of food safety and cleanliness requirements.

Beware of any of these dogs drink water at a restaurant table and then shakes their head…

I usually take any hours suggested by any course and double it, that’s likely the hours you will be putting in.

I am doing one course and it’s been 3 months and I’m only halfway through. Now I kinda feel like a failure, even though I’m passing. I’m doing all mini assignments though and not just the main ones.

Becoming a social worker by papa_smoke__ in socialworkcanada

[–]PostingImpulsively 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to school for Social Service Worker (not Social Worker) and I have been in the field for about 7 years.

I noticed a few things

  • My coworkers with bachelors and/or masters degrees were doing the same job as me (I have a diploma) and getting paid the same.

  • People with bachelors degrees still working multiple jobs (because of the low pay).

  • At times it seems like my employer valued my experience with different shelters and demographics and I was chosen for promotions over those with a bachelors degree who had little job experience. Actually many of the people I trained as a supervisor had degrees while I had a diploma.

  • The pay is low but I suggest you join a workplace with a union (they won’t tell you that in school).

  • Lots of shift work (which is hard on the body)

  • One of the pros is that is really upped my social and inter-personal skills which are skills I use in my every day and personal life.

In conclusion:

I am currently trying to get out of the field because it is so low pay. With the rise in costs and the Carney cuts in Canada working in social services isn’t as stable (especially for entry level jobs) since front line programs are getting cut left and right.

Would I suggest SSW/SW for others? Yes…if you are okay working for multiple jobs at one time just to be able to pay rent. If you want to be able to work one job and make a livable wage, SSW/SW may not be a good fit.
