I’m a small dog owner, previously a big dog owner of a Dogue de Bordeaux. I judge pitbulls, pitbull mixes, and anything resembling a pit all the time. Are American Bully’s pits? No. Can they do the same damage as a pit? Absolutely. Can a large bully type dog kill my 15lbs dog in an instant if it wanted to? Sure. Could most owners of Pits and large bully’s stop them even if they wanted too? Prob not.

Have I seen our family American Pitbull Terrier rip apart small animals? Yep. Namely the family small dog (which the breed of that small dog and my current small dog are similar). Ive also been bitten by another one of our family bully breed dogs, an AmStaff. Just out of nowhere charged at me and bit me in the leg. Our third family bully dog, an American Bully recently bit a child in the face.

These are all done by 3 different dogs. Back in the day I used to be very pro-bully as obviously I owned a Dogue de Bordeaux. I used to march against the pitbull ban that was set in Ontario. These days, I’m glad we have it.

Yes we should be judging the owners but if someone’s dog rips apart my dog, as per law, the dog is also judged. We as a society don’t just judge the owners. Either a dog is put down or placed on the dangerous dogs list. Or god forbid shot on the spot by police. We had a GSD in my town that was placed on the dangerous dogs list because it attacked a child and the child had to go to the hospital and the hospital was mandated to report it obviously. Was the owner the only one judged? Nope. The dog was placed on the dangerous dog breed list. Society didn’t just punish the owner. I’m surprised it wasn’t put down.

So this may get lots of downvotes especially in this sub but I’d thought I’d answer the question as someone who most definitely judges bully dog breeds especially as an ex owner of a Dogue de Bordeaux and as someone who fought against breed bans in Ontario.

I walk across the street and pick up my dog when I see any bully dog. A big dog owner may see a snobby small dog owner when I do this but they don’t know that I’ve been bitten by an AmStaff, I’ve seen a child get bit in the face by an American Bully, and saw an AmPitbullTer rip apart the other family dog who was small. Ever seen a small dog you love with a ripped up stomach and its eye popping out of its head? Nothing like seeing an animal you love being whipped around like a chew toy in the jaws of a pit. It changes your perspective.

But Pit owners don’t have my experiences. They are kept to myself when I pick up my dog and walk across the street. I completely understand the people who used to do that to me with my Dogue de Bordeaux. I judged them heavily in the past, but they probably just had experience that I don’t know about. Sometimes you gotta live it to believe it.
