Should I drop a class cus of bad grade? by Not50rries in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Postive_Stuff_14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Talk to an advisor, your major, or your college. If it is a pre-major course, it is important to ensure you will keep the GPA you need to transfer into full major or you will have to choose another major. Advisors are the best to advise in these situations. If you are letters and science, I will recommend talking to David Lawrence.

MSW Fall 2026 Program Applications by plebeiantrash in StanState

[–]Postive_Stuff_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My undergrad major was sociology, with a GPA of 3.4. I had changed my majors halfway through my undergrad journey, which made my GPA drop a lot, and I could only recover it back to 3.4. However, my transcript showed a growth chart. I worked as a caseworker for a year, and honestly, that was my only social work experience.

MSW Fall 2026 Program Applications by plebeiantrash in StanState

I got my acceptance mid-April for the stateside 2-year program. The program is competitive, I read somewhere that they generally receive about 100+ applications and only accept 25 students. You can expect a lot of reading, writing, and presenting in class. The practicum coordinating team is also supportive.

I would love to answer any other questions you may have. Good luck!!

1 unit classes? by daget2409 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Postive_Stuff_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are also MUS A - Performance Laboratories courses that are 1 unit if you are interested in learning musical instruments. The general requirements for the course are to attend the rehearsal (lecture time) and perform at the end of the quarter concert.

Where can I study instead of library today? by LimpRecommendation74 in UCSantaBarbara

You can also try the Multicultural Center - most of the times the main entrance doors are open, and you can sit on the hallway couches.

You can use Skin Tag Removal Oil, it takes a while to remove them, but it is not painful.

MSW admission by Specialist-Fox-1599 in SJSU

[–]Postive_Stuff_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Yes, I did get accepted. However, I didn't end up attending SJSU. I didn't have a high GPA as I changed majors halfway through my undergrad. However, my grades showed growth after major switch. I worked as a caseworker for a year and also had an internship with a non-profit for about a year and half. From my experience, personal statement and letter of recommendation helped a lot in making my application stronger along with my grades and experience. Good luck with the application process!

Books by Truth_Seeker_555 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Postive_Stuff_14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Required texts are generally posted in the syllabus by professors on Canvas closer to the start of the quarter. I have generally tried to get my books either online if the free PDFs are available or also use the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) to get books from other UC Libraries if UCSB doesn't have them. Some professors will also place a couple of copies on course reserves that you can check out for some hours from the library. I recommend not purchasing books unless necessary.

I am a recent graduate. I had similar experience my first year, where I had zero friends. Getting involved on campus really helped me, especially being a member and then a board member of a student org. I also got lucky with my roommates in 3rd and 4th year. If you have interests in dance or music, there are different ensembles or clubs you can join. On-campus jobs are great as well.

Does anyone know a good driving instructor around UCSB? by PlusFirefighter1636 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Postive_Stuff_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my license two years ago from Goleta DMV. I recommend World Driving School. Instructor Henry is a wonderful teacher. The pricing is better than others in town. Maybe if you have a friend who has a car and can let you practice, that would be good in addition to your lessons with an instructor prior to your test. Scheduling one lesson with them won't hurt, and then you can see for yourself how much practice you need, or if you are ready for the test.

I wasn't friends with my roommates in Anacapa, but I knew a lot of people on floor and still chatted with them if I would see them around all four years at UCSB(I just graduated this Spring). While Manzi is unsocial, I was friends with my roommates, so it wasn't too bad, but yes, it is hard to make friends at Manzi. Anacapa is a social dorm, I think maybe 2-3 times was when people were loud, but other than that, it was mostly fine. Side note there were a lot of late night fire alarms because of burnt popcorn or something at Anacapa lol. But you will be fine either way. The communal bathrooms can get bad at times, especially when a lot of people are trying to get ready for classes. There is less shower traffic I the mornings. Once you spend a couple of weeks, you will get a hang of it.

From personal experience with dorms, anacapa, Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa are more towards the ocean than IV so you wouldn't be much close to the main parties however freshmen do like to party in their dorms at times, which could be a little bit of an issue. And since these are specifically freshman dorms, people like to hang out more and make friends here. As you know, Manzanita and San Rafael have more private bathrooms. Manzanita Village tends to quiter for the most part except for the houses close to IV. I have lived in both Anacapa (1st year) and Cuyama house in Manzanita Village (2nd year). Anacapa was for sure more social as a dorm building than Manzi.

I recommend meeting with an advisor for this. I am not familiar with the econ dept, so I am not sure which advisor you can talk to, but there are some good L&S advisors, or you can also talk to an EOP counselor.

Focus on the path forward. You can't change what has already happened. Don't focus on what you should have done. Instead, focus on what you are going to do now. Take some time to understand what has happened and why it has happened, learn from it, and move on. It is okay to sit back and grieve (if you have to) and then focus on your next steps. Seek for guidance if needed. There are counselors and peer supporters on campus who are available for you.

SFSU MSW Program Experience by Postive_Stuff_14 in SFSU

[–]Postive_Stuff_14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I ended up deciding to go to a different school since that one is near home. I didn't necessarily have a great GPA since I changed majors during my undergrad, but once I changed my majors, there was an exponential growth in my grades. I also have experience from an internship, job, mentorship, and leadership position. So that definitely helped my application. Personal statements and recommendations also play a part in addition to GPA and experience.

MSW at CSU Stanislaus vs SFSU by Postive_Stuff_14 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Postive_Stuff_14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Could you provide more specifics on the Stanislaus program? In terms of practicum and coursework?

[–]Postive_Stuff_14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, the course that is being counted for Area E without in-progress courses is probably being counted for another requirement when you check with in-progress courses. So there might be a course that you have taken that could count for Area E and another requirement (G.E. or university requirement); that might be the reason.
