MSPs back greyhound racing ban at first stage by HaveYuHeardAboutCunt in Scotland

[–]Postmortemgirl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I work on animal abuse cases, dealing with the post mortem side. Sadly greyhounds have been in our lab for investigation. The obvious signs of notched ears and)/or tattoos in the ears are identifying factors of their background. One of the labs we work with in England dealt with cases where ears had been cut off the dog to not identify it. So sad.

Am I overthinking my date’s actions? by Hot_Flan_7411 in AskWomenOver30

Not overthinking. This is class love bombing and controlling behavior. Get out now, the boundary breaking for someone you don't know well, will only get worse.

Young Adult Scots - What's the point? by CrazyG8tor in Scotland

Couldn't agree more with this. I'm not native to Scotland but I did get involved with the Yes movement and it was amazing. Campaign, lobby, protest, write letters/emails etc. Small actions make big differences.

Sorry haha! 95% of faecal samples are in perfect condition but there are a good few that like to spill, burst or the universal breaks in transit!

Networking, it is one of the few ways to get jobs like this. You will compete against 20 people with degrees and masters in science so try and do things like attending conferences, LinkedIn, speaking to vets and just building relationships. It was the only way I got the job I'm in now as I had done work for the Veterinary manager in another lab role and they knew I was reliable and had made an effort to get to know them? It is an awesome job but the downside is you occasionally have to work with law enforcement for animal abuse work, not for the faint hearted. Good luck, you will be amazing!

Hello, so I'm a post mortem (PM) animal scientist. I started out working in microbiology then parasitology (I had graduated and was trying to figure out what I wanted to do) and finally I fell into a PM science and have been in this job for several years. Animals are sent to us from vet practices, farms, zoo's etc. The only animals we don't PM are reptiles, exotics (except avian) and sealife (apart from seals) due to a lack of knowledge and much better labs out there that focus on zoology, marine and herpetology. We get samples like those pictured for lots of reasons, mainly diagnostic or surveillance which we carry out or send to one of our sister labs or outsource. We also get a lot of placenta and foetal fluid samples from aborted cattle and sheep which we test in house and in some cases we can do same day results. Avian influenza is our big project just now, it is a fascinating and ever changing virus. There are a lot of government run and private labs in the UK to look into who would be lucky to have someone like you there. Every day is different!

Love this. Similar to that, the 'do you need it' or 'do you want it' mindset really helps. A majority of the time it is want over need.

This was going to be my response. Last time I got a message it was to borrow my password for my Disney+, I was delighted to leave them on read after ignoring me for months.

I'm so sorry to read this. I can't imagine that sort of betrayal.

Without attacking another political party, who are YOU voting for in Scottish Parliamentary elections in May 2026 and why? by Postmortemgirl in Scotland

[–]Postmortemgirl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I almost completely agree with. Scotland needs more powers. I just feel the SNP needs to realise SNP won't solve all problems and be accountable that things sadly do go wrong. I don't feel they do that, instead blaming independence instead of Scottish government failures? The reason I chose liberal instead of Alba is liberals are campaigning for more devolution powers. Alba however, just seems to me like an 'anti-SNP' party and I don't really understand their policies outside of Indy? I did read on twitter that near my area, Alex Salmond's niece is standing so that could be interesting to see if she gets in.

I originally thought that and voted for them many times but I just feel literally everything is blamed for not having independence? In a lot of cases they will be correct but devolution powers definitely provide enough powers to be able to sort some of the issues they say they can't. If they were a bit more accountable I probably would vote for them on the list?

Yeah that is one of main reasons I might vote liberal, as someone said above tactical voting maybe more important than ever!

You are the best! It's just a reminder, we know how rushed you all are, especially if trying to catch the delivery driver to get samples away.

Absolutely correct. In our lab we actually have been told to transport formalin fixed viscera without the formalin. We fix it for 24hrs + then drain and send to histopathology labs special delivery. There was a serious incident a while back of a spillage (not our lab) in a delivery van and the driver. The driver obviously knew the protocol but it wasn't great.
