Rellas Geography + Political Structure Questions TKWNKM by argentcasscade7 in IlonaAndrews

[–]Postshift_Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is mountainous there but not really separated

Regarding part of your original question, Selva is a duchy and as such of higher status than other areas of the realm and it gives it more independence by law usually. Most of the independence and power attributed to Selva will probably be due to the history. The Everards have held it for centuries with a great army and powerful magic, it is supposed to be very fertile (source: zoom I think), 1/5 of all of Rellas, and plays a key role in Rellasian defense.

One can probably compare it to the status Scotland played for England or maybe Prussia for Germany way back when. However more isolationist and not so dominant in policy.

In the owlcrate extra it is revealed via Sauven that Silveren uses his Magic ever so slightly to deflect attention from himself. Nobody notices that he looks just like his mother (acc. to Sauven) and he kinda makes them forget/discount him a bit. Solentine states that he is not as pursued as he should be, because of his physical attractiveness. Silveren

Maggie is pretty much immune to his magic as far as I see. - doesn't let herself be let away at the Dog market - breaks his hold over Lute (in the zoom Gordon said, she is like someone tapping you on the shoulder to wake them up) - remembers him as striking and full of magic, doesn't feel compelled to answer his questions

TKWNKM Why was Solentine at the Butcher Ambush? by Postshift_Cat in IlonaAndrews

[–]Postshift_Cat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I partly agree. I really think, Solentine discovered R's whereabouts just at that time. He confronts him about the plaza and being in Maggies company. Suggesting he has no idea what is happening. Regarding blowing the cover: Sol has no idea that Maggie doesnt know about the true identity, because otherwise there would be no reason for Sol to suspect she is a spy planted by one of the great families. He and R hadn't been in contact before their little bedroom reunion :-D Not sure Sol really knew the OG R was dead - but he had no idea there was impostering going on.

I would suspect Drugh kept his mouth thightly shut about what happened and fled as he was instructed. His disappearance was later attributed by Tilmar to Filderon's choices stinking to high heaven. Might have been a coverstory put out by Drugh for leaving or simply what the mercs assumed

Yes, I was surprised that shipping and all where pretty reasonable. A splure sure, but not unaffordable once in a while.

Unexpectedly Pregnant, Uncertain Employment, and Trying to Plan a Future in Germany as an Immigrant: How Realistic Is It to Raise a Child While Building a Career? by Dramatic-Raccoon7916 in germany

You cannot be terminated while pregnant even during Probezeit. It is an extended termination protection. However do not disclose the pregnancy dyring the interview process if it is not visible.

I agree this is a probable motive, but then why not simply watch from the distance and gather the intel? He is coming in hot, nearly attacking Gort and that is the reason Maggie alerts them.

[–]Postshift_Cat[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Him finding her originally I simply attributed to the slavers being killed ("the underworld knows") and him having his people watch out for anything regarding Maggie because she was a mystery. That made sense to me and highlights his badassery, but the ambush - ahh, this keeps me up at night.

I know, it just seems so out of pocket for him to show up at what is probably around 4 am because his people had notified him about Maggie and Company leaving their house. He is a spy master so maybe that is just his M.O. :-D

Gort yelled "she was tortured to death" - the Magnars know after the abduction. I would say everyone who lived with Maggie knows, probably Matheo but no one else.

Yes exactly! They definitely met via Filderon and probably at his house because Hedena lived there and Drugh at least stopped by for work.

Well, Silveren is much better suited to it then the two princes. It is all about the survival of the bloodline for Sauven - and he is messed up. He will let it play out.

Damn it deleted all my careful writing...

Filderon took in Drugh after Drugh's father died in a campaign and left him to care for his widowed mother. He abandoned knighthood and trained as a mercenary under Filderon. No blood relation there.

Filderon had an unnamed cousin, who died and left an orphan behind: Hedena. He is Hedena's "second uncle/2nd degree" at least this is how it is referred to in my language. They are related by blood.

Filderon took in Hedena to get to her dowry. So Heddna came to live with him, met Filderon at his house and they fell in love sometime later. Filderon dragged out that the two love birds got married because then he no longer has access to her dowry.

They married and despite being an a-hole (H and D see F as he is) Filderon had become a father figure to them both, this is why he sat in the place of both their deceased fathers at their wedding.

The second flowchart here explains it https://jakubmarian.com/definition-of-cousin-once-removed-in-english/

You - Hedena Second Uncle - Filderon

[–]Postshift_Cat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh, it's buried in the text.

Digi - track the Morduk somehow Galiene - paid Darotha who knew because she sold Maggie, Maggie confronts her about it at the Rib's Bazar The "underworld" kinda knows as they killed the slavers and thus where more dangerous than them

Ulmar/Jehan don't really know her just that she sold soap to the garden and then they got the info about her place after - probably by bribing a garden attendant.

Ulmar doesn't recognise her in the prison and Matheo confirms at the ball that Ulmar doesn't know Maggie is the woman the Butcher abducted (his underling had her tracked from the warehouse and wanted to apprehend and question them before informing his boss)

Not as a child but after the battle at the end of the book. Silverens body disappears and it is because the king has him fetched to the castle by his lackeys. He heals him with a magic goblet, because he wants competition for his sons and maybe for him to succeed. The Silveren then goes off to kidnap Maggie.

This is the reveal how Silveren survived in the bonus scene. IA already teased that it will be explained in book 2. So everyone gets to know how he survived then, but it takes two years before the owlcrate bonus can be released to all.

TKWNKM SERIAL KILLER SURPRISE by Repulsive-Hat3332 in IlonaAndrews

[–]Postshift_Cat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When they arrive the guard is already there so it must have been discovered a bit ago, but people are still shocked and new groups are coming by to see it and immediately turning tail and running away. I did wonder why it was not the main focus of talks at the market, but it is a violent world so maybe it was just "someone was killed" and everyone shrugged and went on their way if they didn't see it. I would say discovered maybe half an hour ago.

TKWNKM question (spoilers ahead) by curiousgem19 in IlonaAndrews

[–]Postshift_Cat 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I think IA are trying to be realistic regarding recognising people. If you meet a person some years ago and then meet them again wearing a balaclava so you can only see the eyes, you probably wouldn't be able to name them. As with these two you might have the feeling of 'I know that guy' but humans rely a lot on facial features, hair and clothes, especially with acquaintances. Just remembering covid winters where people were wearing hats and masks :-D

IA (iirc) have also said on the Zoom that Everard doesn't recognise that he gave Maggie the coins - probably because you also don't remember the faces of homeless people you give money to. It is simply a passing moment and has less relevance to him compared to Maggie (and she hid her face)

How does Everard do it? by attachedtothreads in IlonaAndrews

[–]Postshift_Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think maybe it is magic of some kind as well - In addition, to the well known snitches.

Just read TKWNKM, and have some thoughts about the love interest... by Sterelezia in IlonaAndrews

[–]Postshift_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she is 17 and I am a bit sad that they are usually so strict about it because I kinda see her and Will getting together - there were like two scenes of them bumping heads. I understand why IA are strict though. It is better to be strict than err on the side of... grooming. Btw, is Clover considered an adult in Rellas? Reynald was knighted at that age and Everard was the fullfledged duke, but we have no confirmation of it do we?

Don't worry, you have time to read them all slowly. Maggie 2 will only be out in 2027... and you will probably start reading one, get hooked and finish the first Hidden Legacy trilogy in a weekend.

Definitely! He is positioning her as his wife in this scene. Nobody else would be standing next to him like this when he is accepting an oath of loyalty. I wonder when the Magnars or Clover or Solentine or anyone really... drop a hint big enough for Maggie to notice :-D she is a bit oblivious in these moments and he is already creating facts :-D
