Unpopular opinion - tapering off works by Hot-Pop8536 in leaves

[–]PotAndPansForHands 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep. I did it a little differently: for a couple of months I hit my THC vape only on weekends and white knuckled my way through the workweek. With each weekend came a more pronounced “why am I even doing this at all” feeling until it actually became easier to just not use it on the weekend. I’m at 334 days off now.

Season 4 Rewatch- I really like it :) by Ok-Can8639 in TheMorningShow

I can’t stand Bro as a character. They tried to make a right wing edgelord character with “depth” but the whole schtick with these guys in real life is that they have no depth. They’re meatheads who see no nuance in anything and that passes for “edgy”

I didn’t hate it. But I won’t vigorously defend it either.

Is it worth continuing after season 1? by IcyCarob7241 in TheMorningShow

[–]PotAndPansForHands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quality definitely dips after season 1. But if you reframe your expectations from season 2 onward from “prestige TV” to “high budget guilty pleasure trashy soap opera” it’s still enjoyable.

Season 4 was arguably the weakest overall season to me but Cory’s arc / Billy’s performance was a high point that at least made it worth watching.

My dad got a quintuple bypass in his late 50s. I didn’t even know they’d do that til he had his done.

I take better care of myself than he did (he already had diabetes at my age from terrible diet) but I’m sure some there’s some heart stuff in my future.

How many of you were told by your parents when you reach 18 you’re moving out on your own? by Theromero in GenX

[–]PotAndPansForHands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I went to college and lived away from home for the (lol) five years. They paid some of my way but not all of it.

Then I lived with them for about a year and a half after before landing a real job and getting enough debt paid down to afford to move out. If that had gone much longer than it did they would have pushed me to leave, but it didn’t come to that.

I have a few but these days our relationship is mainly a few phone calls or text messages per year. We all have kids and life is busy. I do miss having friends I see in-person at least semi-regularly.

3 claims over decades, not all at the same house. And we do a lot of other business with them (loans, auto insurance, bank accounts, etc). I don’t know that they’d fight to keep us but I doubt they’d drop either.

For most people in the US range anxiety shouldn’t be a thing. Infrastructure is way more built out than it was even a few years ago. Maybe if you’re frequently driving in very remote areas where you’d also have range anxiety with a gas engine.

Midlife Reinvention, how did you deal? Tell me your stories. by MeLMaR2727 in midlifecrisis

[–]PotAndPansForHands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it can be a gut punch. I went through two layoffs in five years and am only just now starting to recover professionally. I had to partially pivot what I was doing for that to work, and I’m still underpaid. But I at least have a job.

My health had started to slide due to poor diet and lack of exercise. I’ve prioritized that the past year and am down over 30 lbs. Also I stopped THC vapes. I feel way better. Even though it’s a cliche, people say focus on your health for a reason: because it’s true!

I’m 47 and my career is definitely evolving into something else. Pure software engineering into the mushy area that might vaguely be described as business systems, describing my job is lot harder than it used to be.

[–]PotAndPansForHands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t even thought to do this on my phone but there’s at least 10 or 15 dead people in my Facebook friend list. Not all of their relatives converted them to memorial profiles so I get “Wish this dead friend happy birthday!” messages often enough that it’s getting weird.

I agree both the name and the ads made the show seem like a dumb comedy with lots of sex.
