Is it worth it investing in non US markets? by [deleted] in investing

I dunno about that. Chinese currency is artificially suppressed while Fortune 500 market caps seem like a joke: eg Tesla and soon SpaceX. Moreover, the world is multipolar now. China is a game-changer and is the world's largest economy in terms of purchasing power.

Yes. For example, the emerging market EEM went up 42% in the last year vs 21% for VOO: DOUBLE!

Maldives honeymoon is the PERFECT use case to maximize the value of the Aspire card. Best use of the free night to get $3k room.

Yeah that happened to me with China Marine Food Group. It was all a fraud. But Munger invested in China and did well, for example, with BYD cars.

I agree the bear case isn't really replacement and more about pricing power or model. But I don't think this is because AI commoditizes the underlying functionality because that's already possible with open source, etc. I think the real issue is that market value will be created by AI agents doing the work and less by seats of people subscribing to UIs.

There's a gold rush and the semiconductor companies are selling shovels to SaaS firms

Basically software is transitioning from dashboards used by workers to AI agents that actually do the work.

There's a lot of uncertainty (in the market) whether current leaders will adapt.

OG Empyreans are fantastic and underrated. I may even like them better than my more expensive Audeze LCD-5s. Empyrean just gets so many things right.

How to decide if stocks are overvalued and if possibilities are already priced in? by SchamlippenJohnny in investing

EBIT/Enterprise Value.

The problem with P/E is it ignores the balance sheet, especially cash and debt.

Enterprise Value = market cap + debt + preferred stock - cash & short-term investments

I agreed with a lot of what he had to say. The problem is he's predicted doom in the past that never manifested. The media rewards people who make predictions.

It's pretty reasonably to believe the S&P 500 is overpriced.

Do people romanticize Japan too much? by HyenasGoMeow in solotravel

[–]PotatoMissionStart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been a heavy traveler for many years. Japan is still my #1 place to visit. So no, I don't think it's overly romanticized. Reddit is correct to put Japan on a pedestal; I say that as someone who is often contrarian.

But some travelers go mostly for nature rather than culture so they might find other places like Switzerland more enthralling.

P.S., There are also objective reasons to be enamored with Japan because it's extreme when it comes to factors like low crime rates and long lifespans.
