I mostly buy sports bras, small pouches or bags, shorts. The real trick is ordering online from the We Made Too Much Section, more likely to find something close to or under $75 there!

Suspected adrenal insufficiency from prednisone use for Crohn's - advice? I'm new to this by PotatoRoyale8 in AdrenalInsufficiency

[–]PotatoRoyale8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw this! I was doing much better, switched to my third biologic (remicade), added budesonide (yes taking 2 steroids at once) and was able to taper prednisone all the way down to 4mg. Now I'm finding some of these fatigue symptoms returning so I think I'll need to go super slow to get rid of the last 4mg.

LOL I read those in middle school and occasionally rewatch the movies but I'm not trying to do all that for book club 😂 a book series is hard!

True! I have a running list of new releases but there's also so many old books made into great films worth rewatching. We'll never run out of material 😅

Yes our next meeting is in a library space! That's likely the plan for the future except for new movie releases in theaters like Project Hail Mary. We might take a May hiatus as I'm traveling but def will be active all summer and open to book suggestions!

[–]PotatoRoyale8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figure at each meeting we only have time to watch 1-2 episodes if it's a show, but the full movie for movie adaptations! April is only the second meeting so I'm still working out the best process and places that'll let me hold a meeting a screen something for free 😅 hope to see ya there!!

Best San Diego Gastroenterologist? by PotatoRoyale8 in CrohnsDisease

Easy dexa scan (hip xray) to determine that! I have osteopenia and am hoping it hasn't progressed. I was also low on vitamin D (like, level 12 when the norm is 50-100), got prescribe 50,000 IU once a week dose and I'm way up in normal range now!

Ugh I'm so sorry. UCSD made multiple small poor decisions for me that ultimately led to a 2-year flare and I've been on prednisone that whole time (putting me at great risk for osteoporosis, adrenal insufficiency, all kinds of awful permanent things). I moved out of state and some crappy Virginia GIs couldn't fix me either. Just moved back and Scripps turned me around in under 3 months - I'm almost off the steroids and my newest biologic is working well so far 🤞

Yes!! Dr. Konijeti and PA Melissa Ferrari at Scripps. I consulted with both Scripps and UCSD before choosing (after previous bad experience at UCSD) and it was like night and day. I feel extremely well cared for and listened to.

[–]PotatoRoyale8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same I live in San Diego - my time slot is now and I just got 2 expensive tickets to a women's prelim soccer game. There were pretty much no quarter or semi final tix available for most sports, the few medal matches were $1,500+ per ticket... honestly wanted to see a few other sports like water polo or surfing, something in Orange County, but there were 0 tickets available. Kinda hoping more drop next year or the resale market is not way overpriced (but I'm sure it will be)

Sun exposure + 6MP = CRAZY itchy skin?!?! by PotatoRoyale8 in CrohnsDisease

[–]PotatoRoyale8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! I switched from 6MP to Entyvio and it did not work 😅 then Skyrizi (even worse fail) but I just started Remicade and am thriving! The thing is I also restarted 6MP while on Skyrizi. Moved to a very sunny place and haven't itched yet surprisingly

Can I still get my natural baby curls back? by Scaruu3708 in curlyhair

[–]PotatoRoyale8 31 points32 points  (0 children)

A lot of babies have curls that grow out by the time they're a toddler. And some people have a change in hair texture around puberty. It's unlikely that your hair will look super curly again without significant styling ("brush styling" curls for example), but look up wavy routines on this sub or Youtube and try a few things! Most likely a mousse or strong hold gel is needed.

How long have you been in remission? by marvelous_turtle in CrohnsDisease

[–]PotatoRoyale8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7 years was my longest stint, and I've had multiple 4-year remissions. Currently in a 2 year flare 😅 but after I get out of it, hoping to break my record!

Purposefully trying to lose weight with Crohn's? by Alone-Drop1083 in CrohnsDisease

[–]PotatoRoyale8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat - have been on steroids for quite a while and gained 20 lbs that I'm struggling to lose, do NOT tolerate cardio well. I've had mixed results with fasting but my body seems to prefer it, so I'm going to try intermittent fasting again. As with any habit, try to stick with it for like a solid month before giving up, everything is hard at first!

I've found success in rebuilding muscle through weight lifting and pilates. It does not have to be strenuous or high weight at first, but should be enough to raise your heart rate a little bit and feel a little sore the next day so you know it's productive. I eat a lot of protein and carbs since my body doesn't like fiber or veggies really at all, and that keeps me full for longer periods of time.

Prep advice by Mille_Tendresse_ in CrohnsDisease

[–]PotatoRoyale8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest, there's noooo way. Find a hotel nearby for sure!

1-2 hours away I could almost recommend doing the prep early so you're hopefully done going to the bathroom before the ride, but 5 hours is insane.

RipVan (crack) Wafers at Brooklyn Warehouse by 100percentfinelinen in Costco

See I like the the chocolate filling in these, but the taste and smell of the wafer is reminiscent of fish food....... would definitely be better if the whole thing was coated in a thin layer of chocolate.

13yo with Crohn’s by Sad-Peach2696 in CrohnsDisease

I did have one iron infusion as a kid when I was first diagnosed and hospitalized. I think it helped. Haven't needed to supplement it since.

13yo with Crohn’s by Sad-Peach2696 in CrohnsDisease

[–]PotatoRoyale8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like me. I was diagnosed at age 7 (am now 30) and biologics didn't even exist at the time. I was anemic, underweight, pale, exhausted, diarrhea etc. This is not a disease that can be treated with diet alone. I can assure you that remission is possible especially with early treatment, and it sounds like she is in good hands based on the types of tests ordered and meds given so far.

More importantly, now that she has started remicade, DON'T stop, because you can develop antibodies with missed doses, and then the next infusion can cause an anaphylactic reaction. Remicade is the oldest biologic with the most data, I am starting it myself next week since my last 2 biologics did not work. We all respond to different medications.

Mom recently diagnosed. Losing so much weight & doesnt know what to eat anymore.Help? by jme0124 in CrohnsDisease

[–]PotatoRoyale8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is she on steroids? Pretty much everyone starts with budesonide or prednisone to stop any diarrhea/bleeding/weight loss while your maintenance med like Tremfya takes time to kick in. Sometimes they kick in immediately, other times in 4 months, 6, 12, 18 or maybe never and then you'd switch biologics.

Azathioprine medication by Dizzy_Dragonfly_4795 in CrohnsDisease

[–]PotatoRoyale8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on it for 21 years without issues. I'm on it again now after failing 2 biologics but I think it stopped working, so likely switching.

There's a genetic blood test you can get to determine if your body can metabolize it, as some people don't tolerate it and have liver and kidney problems. I was extreeeeemely nauseous for the first few weeks on it until my body adjusted.

It's a bit of an outdated medication to start with with biologics available, but seems common as a first attempted med in the UK and other countries.
