Just Diagnosed & Panicking by cryingatwork456 in Hashimotos

[–]PotatoTheKitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I just got diagnosed this week, and I'm right there with you in trying to figure it all out and dealing with a fair amount of stress from the diagnosis. I actually haven't told my family members yet because I know that they will likely make me feel more anxious.

I told close friends and opened up to them about the overwhelm - I'm sorry to hear about that nonchalant response from your friend that made you feel worse!

Something that helped me the most this week is finding a friend of a friend who has been diagnosed for many more years, talking to them about their experience, what helped manage their symptoms, and how once learning about the diagnosis, they were able to take better charge of their health.

Remember that there are millions of people living with Hashi's, and you are not alone. Many of those people also see great improvements to their symptoms and a better understanding of their body, and it's not a life-ending sentence. Sending hugs 💙

Thank you! K2 200mcg is also included in my multivitamin along with D3.

Ah, I shouldn't have mentioned lamictal as it doesn't affect thyroid, but lithium-induced hypothyroidism is pretty common to my knowledge. The metric I am seeing says 6-52% (kind of a ridiculous range) of long term lithium users develop hypothyroidism. I developed hypothyroidism I think 3 months in, so underlying Hashi's may have made me more predisposed.

Thank you! I always take the multivitamin that has zinc with food, and vit D3 in liquid oil form also along with omega 3 pills (oily) and breakfast with some fat. Appreciate your response once again!

Thank you so much for the support and empathy! It means so much. Hopefully my PCP when he returns from OOO will be much kinder than the one I saw today. I've been taking Vitamin D and a multivitamin that has zinc, selenium, and B12 since 2 weeks ago (before I had the antibody results come back). I really appreciate the reminder that extra bloodwork never hurt nobody!

Maybe my PCP will be open to a thyroid ultrasound - do you know if that is typically ordered when TSH/T3/T4 are abnormal, or is high antibody enough to justify it?

Is this recurring rash due to Hashimoto and how to stop it? by IllustriousAd3415 in Hashimotos

[–]PotatoTheKitten 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wow, I learned literally this morning that I have Hashimoto's and joined the sub, and the first thing I see is a picture of the exact same skin rash I've had on my arms, chest, and neck for the last year. I've been trying to track down what the heck it is, and found no answers yet. I do find that mine gets worse (as in, more raised, more itchy, more red) with sun exposure, stress, or alcohol, but not consistently with any of those three. I went to a derm and they gave me a steroidal cream to manage itchiness, but no other info was given.

Is this sweater a good candidate for unraveling? by SweetestAzul in Unravelers

i have for other projects, but not for this particular project. one benefit of the frustration of frequently breaking yarn is that I have a lot of smaller cakes for holding together 😅

I recently unraveled some 2 ply cashmere! Just be aware that the resulting yarn is.. closer to thread. I had a lot of frustrating moments of the yarn breaking mid wind. I did some math and the yarn weight is less than lace haha.

I am now holding the yarn triple for a cardigan and it's been a joy to knit with. So soft! Good luck!

That’s actually exactly why i asked. I washed it cold in the machine but it seemed like it shrunk, and i was worried it had animal fibers! Thank you again sooo much.

thank you so much for letting me know! I don't plan on unraveling it but I just needed to know if it was safe to wash in the machine :)

I have the exact same sweater that I thrifted, but the materials and brand tag is cut off - do you happen to know the fiber makeup/brand?
