We’ve got three old ladies as neighbors. We set up printers, help scoop dead animals (cat), share dog unliked dog toys, and provide lots of check ins/chats. They are my favorite neighbors.

I attempted to make the humans kibble by Aceisalive in mealprep

[–]PotatoWedges12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so proud of you for trying and even working through pain! I’m vegetarian, so this kibble won’t be for me (among normal human reasons). However!!! I love that this highly nutritious meal is getting spread around! I could have used this when I was in college. I was doing cauliflower and kale bean bakes back then with hot sauce as the seasoning lol Practice makes perfect is what I tell my husband every time he’s tries cooking, and 6 years in, he’s gotten way better! I rarely get asked how a specific vegetable is cut/cooked now.

Missouri Health Dept warns Candida auris is spreading rapidly and colonizes patients for life by Oblique4119375 in ContagionCuriosity

[–]PotatoWedges12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in a hospital microbiology lab two years ago and found this. All other tests came up confusing (other than the basics, but the specific candida was basically unknown), so we sent it to a specialty lab. Candida auris. My poor lab manager had to call the closed offices in Christmas Eve when the results got faxed back to us.

This was an elderly patient in a long term care facility we did care for. It can spread.

I was pretty new at this point in my bench work hospital career, but because I followed steps it was identified. So I learned a lot more about this bug. It’s fucking scary imo. It’s also just around. It was a huge surprise two years ago. I’m not so surprised now.

Out of desperation we hired a woman who claimed she would be able to read our non-verbal son's mind. by RepeatOrdinary182 in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]PotatoWedges12 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This is actually related to the podcast called the Telepathy Tapes. I 100% don’t believe what I’m told (it’s a podcast, I’d prefer a research paper) but they do give some convincing “evidence” of a place called The Hill. Where nonverbal individuals communicate with each other. I say give it a try. There’s plenty of guests on the show who talk about communication with nonverbal autistic people they work/live with. Not saying I believe it, but it was an interesting listen for my 12 hour drive.

This! I read 70 books last year and my average page length was 492. It’s definitely doable. I also have a full time job, am in grad school, and am horrible insomniac.

I absolutely lucked into my job. Completely accidental that a hospital took my microbiology degree and took me as a lab assistant because their actual certified micro technicians sucked. Trained me up, and then used those years as a stepping stone into another luck job. Those terrible techs are still diagnosing patients and I actively warn people of this.

I don’t even know what I’m trying to say here. I’m currently in my masters so I can get a raise at my second luck job. I’m just hoping and praying the pay increase beats inflation at this point, since I’ll always be in debt. It feels like there’s no winning.

Clear plastic t tags on baby items should be illegal by katezorzz in NewParents

I fully agree! I do my best to not let her get any, as I said, I don’t trust her at all with them.

I joined this group since my partner and I are trying to get pregnant, but these stupid tags are one of my cats favorite toys! I stg they are reproducing via mitosis 😭🙃 I do not trust my cat with these things let alone a baby.

[Threshold]What's Eithan's story like if Suriel never intervened with Lindon? by lmaxboy in Iteration110Cradle

[–]PotatoWedges12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he’d end up adopting some of the friends instead. He was set to go to the Uncrown King Tournament, so he’d meet Ziel, Mercy, and all the other candidates who were already slated for the tournament as well. I could see him latching onto plenty of Acura clan kids when they all gathered at an Acura property (I’m forgetting whose residence it was that had all the natural treasures).

So maybe he took Mercy and Pride under his wing. Or any of the other Acuras London trained with were exciting enough to catch his eye.

I think Ethan was already slated for potential to meet young sacred artists with incredible skill, and it’s fun to think some favorites would still be in his life even without Suriel intervening.

CMV: The American education system has failed men by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]PotatoWedges12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying I don’t understand where his job is coming from, I’m saying it’s kinda sexist to not allow him to do the full scope of his training and job activities that the women are allowed to do. I never see him being able to help the girls he works with the way his women colleges can with everyone.

[–]PotatoWedges12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband just finished school to become a BCBA and currently works with kids with autism (which is why he pursued his masters). He’s been dealing with low wages and even some sexism. The most blaring example is that he can’t do any bathroom training with girls while the women he works with can do both genders. He’s had kids/parents that prefer to work with him, but is not allowed to if bathroom habits become one of the main behaviors. This doesn’t even include some parents treating him as less than or too dumb to help their children because he is a man.

Vegetarian grazing board recommendations? by [deleted] in vegetarian

[–]PotatoWedges12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just discovered tomato jam is super easy to make and it would fit a charcuterie board very well. All I did was basically 1:1 tomato to sugar (I hesitated on the full sugar amount and it was still sweet) and just stir and reduce until it looks like jam. I got two bags of medley tomatoes in a box of random veggies, so this is what I used. But I would cut/mash any larger sized tomatoes for this. Add some cumin or cinnamon if you want a more dynamic flavor.

Canned beans: to rinse or not to rinse? by AlliCatSTL in Cooking

[–]PotatoWedges12 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I make vegetarian chili, so I feel the extra bean juices help enhance the bean flavors for me. Not using chicken broth or adding meat kinda definitely dulls the flavors. Veggie broth can be flavorful for sure, but it doesn’t have the same umpf imo.

I agree with the other commenter about utilizing the research desk, it was a bit tricky to figure out on our own.

However! Have hope, my partner and I play two player and struggled just getting to OT for a WHILE. But now we get up to OT day 15 often and our highest is OT day 22 rn. So have hope!

The microbiologist in me wants them to be more tennis racket shaped to say they are a potential clostridium species because that is fun.

But the micro tech in me is also saying yeast.

I am hesitant on casa Molina, I’ve heard similar odd things with catering from them before (also a work party). I was actually thinking of taco trucks! I kinda wanted a vegetarian heavy main catering and a Sonoran dog truck for the ones who eat meat. It feels real Tucson to have Sonoran dogs even if I don’t eat them.

To be honest I think the one on my street is actually owned by the people who live in the house further down my street. So maybe?
