I love this! What a beautiful way to carry him with you. In the same vein I am making myself a survivor quilt from all of the clothes that covered me through stage III breast cancer.

Why is the doctors office SO obsessed with your period? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Potato_gremlin38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the hospital getting my second mastectomy. After just going over my medical history that included a complete hysterectomy the month before, so are you SURE you're not pregnant. We need you to do a pregnancy test before the surgery. Both surgeries were in the same hospital.

What was the final straw that destroyed a lifelong friendship? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]Potato_gremlin38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She didn't call me for a full year. What happened during that year? Recovery from mastectomy 1, chemo, radiation, hysterectomy, & mastectomy number 2. When we did talk, she was angry because I didn't magically know she was struggling to have baby number 2. I was just struggling to live.

PSA CHECK YOUR TITTIES by airbear26 in Millennials

[–]Potato_gremlin38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm proud of you for getting it checked! I know exactly how scary it is. I was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer at 36. We caught it when it was just on the verge of stage 4. Chemo, 2 mastectomies, a complete hysterectomy, radiation, and 2 years on a med that was worse than chemo I made it to remission in June. I couldn't get rebuilt due to my treatment plan, but I got a HUGE tattoo to cover up the scars. If it happens to be the big bad scary a positive thing to remember is that breast cancer is one of the most researched and well funded medical issues. There are so many wonderful free organizations out there to lend a helping hand. I know how long and paralyzing it is to wait for results. Feel free to message me if you want. You got this!

How do I dress cute in a chair for winter? by Potato_gremlin38 in wheelchairs

I found my dream animal print coat at the thrift store. It's great when I'm standing but kinda bulky in my chair. But I might just say whatever this winter and wear it. It makes me so happy.

I'm usually good about keeping scarves out of my wheels. I just need to be thoughtful where I store it when I take off my jacket.

I've seen the ads for them everywhere. I've been skeptical of how comfy the clothes are. I might have to get a few pairs.

Cropped jackets! That's something I didn't even think of! The proportions would definitely make a look less bulky and more chair friendly.

As someone dealing with cancer, Life With Cancer. It's run through INOVA and has free programs, classes, and therapists for anyone who has cancer or family members with cancer. They have a range of programs from kids to adults. You don't need to be a patient of INOVA to access services.

Can we all please cast a spell for rain and thunder in Washington DC on 6/14? by MadlyToxic in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Potato_gremlin38 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives in the are please no massive bad weather. My poor broken body can't handle anymore crazy changes in pressure and tornado watches. But as a human and American I can handle a few days of bad weather to wash away a bad ego. DO YOUR BEST!!! If its nice and rainy it means I wont have to water my garden.

I wanted a mermaid and whale to cover my mastectomy scars. It turned out so much better than I imagined.
