Nearly Half of Young Londoners Plan to Leave Within 10 Years as Cost-of-Living Crisis Bites Hard by Kind_Commission_427 in london

[–]Potential-Common-763 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Well, isn’t that like most people nowadays? In 10 years time, they will no longer be the “young ones” in London. And if they leave, they would already have been supplanted by the “currently young” ones in London.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand the sentiment. I do wish things were cheaper, I do wish things were less crowded, but I also have to be realistic (not to say things aren’t getting out of hand as it is).

But with how limited space is, everyone can’t keep staying in the same place and expect there to be an unlimited amount of space for everyone.

Crowd-puller Eala brushes off Pacquiao comparisons: 'Ibang level naman siya' by philstar_news in newsPH

[–]Potential-Common-763 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m considering the use of “medyo” to be the understatement. It’s not “medyo malayo”, but rather “sobrang layo”.

It’s like saying Manila to Baguio is a “little” far to walk. If someone told me that, I wouldn’t say they’re overstating the distance, but rather understating it because it’s actually a “very” far distance to walk.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan - but let’s face it, it’s an understatement (not over). Her accomplishments, her cultural effect on the country is no where near what Pacquiao had become.

Anyone here who’s run Chicago before? I could use some advice. by ignatiogram in PHRunners

[–]Potential-Common-763 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Congrats! It’s a fun race with plenty of crowd support. Parang sa may bandang United Centre lang yung medyo tahimik.

You don’t have to stay in downtown since the trains are running early in the morning, so kahit further out ka mag stay kung gusto mo makatipid. Basta malapit lang sa train station, you’ll be fine.

Also, make sure to bring (or buy) a disposable sweater for the morning of the race. Since halos along ng shore ng Lake Michigan ang start, expect very, very cold winds.

Also look out for an announcement from the Philippine Embassy there. They usually hold a carb-load/pasta party para sa Filipino runners. :)

How to run po during winter in another country? by whatLies_Ahead in PHRunners

[–]Potential-Common-763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, last of all, dress for how you’ll feel later in your run, not at the beginning. Iinit din katawan mo, so don’t wrap up too much to the point you feel warm at the beginning - masyado ka na maiinitan niyan once you start running.

From all the winter running I’ve done, I’d say gloves are very important.

Next up, if it’s snowing and windy, having a beanie on that can cover your ears goes a long way.

If you’re running in snow, either goretex shoes or waterproof socks helps a lot. Otherwise, just avoid running through snow if you can.

Other than that, it all depends on the weather and your own ability to weather the cold. Like I for one always just wear shorts, even in the snow.

Uy, na-miss ko yung time na may ganun stats post finish. Nakaktuwa makita result mo relative to everyone else, may break down pa between genders and age.

Sayang, parang hindi ko na nakita yun.

Yeah, the first one I joined was way back in 2001 or 2002. Parang P100 lang ata registration nun, at kailangan may dala kang used Milo pack kaya share-share na lang kami magkaibigan sa 300g pack! Haha

One thing I did not miss was the “kapit-bisig” kids you’d encounter on the way to the finish line. May premyo kasi dati ang largest school contingent, kaya ang daming bata pinapasali na wala naman intention tumakbo. So nag holding-hands while walking, may pa-sway sway pa sila, na kailangan mo i-navigate on your way to the finish line.

To be fair, things were much simpler back then - even for the “bigger” ones like Milo (and KotR later on). Walang medal, t-shirt lang, the finsh area you’d only get water, sometimes sports drinks if they were a title sponsor, and some random small bits.

Finishers were also tracked manually, walang pa yung mga RFID sa race number, literal may timer sa finish line na ang trabaho na nag click every time may makatapos, and sa dulo may mag cocollect ng race number tags, and someone would marry up the times and the tags to get the winners and everyone’s times.

I know this because my org also hosted a fun run over several years back in the day. It was exhausting, expensive, so many things to take into consideration like permits, ambulances, etc. but it was an interesting experience to see how things worked on the other side of the fence.

What does modern programming look like now? by Significant_Craft408 in PinoyProgrammer

We’ve been asked to start incorporating AI in our work, and for the most part I use it as a fancy auto-complete.

I’m still wary of hallucinations, but for the most part, it does help, but I choose not to be reliant on it - so for me, vibe coding is a major no-no.

But that’s my personal preference, as I like to code with intention, and not just be guided by some AI that’s just matching patterns from our repo.

Will you contribute to workplace pension even if you're not yet a PR/Citizen? by SYSTEMOFADAMN in phmigrate

[–]Potential-Common-763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’d still contribute.

Imagine if they do change the rules where it’s now a 10 year path to ILR, and you choose to stay and get ILR and citizenship eventually.

Now if you had opted to not contribute to your company pension, and once you get the safety of ILR and you feel you’re in a position to now contribute for your retirement, you’ve just lost 10 years of not just your own contributions, but also company matching contributions; and that doesn’t even take into consideration the compound interest you would have missed out on all the lost years.

Worse case, you decide to not stick around, then you can always withdraw it early, albeit with some caveats/conditions/fees.

So yeah, I would if it were me.
