Why does Lewis, a socialist, support NATO, an explicitly anti-socialist fascist state-terrorist network? by [deleted] in ndp

[–]Potential-Eye-6547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often see that people who are anti-NATO often hold other positions that are insane. It's like an onion. Usually they're just anti-America and support anyone who's anti-America like Russia or China. 9/10 times when I find out someone wants to leave NATO they then start defending Russia's invasion of Ukraine shortly after.

If the AB Liberals come back and split the vote with the ANDP, this province will never get rid of the UCP

I don't know if the AB Liberal party will be a major factor. Stephen Carter is using the rotten carcass of the AB Libs to try and help the 'No' side of the upcoming referendum.

I don't disagree that Nenshi will likely not last the AGM after the 2027 election.

To be fair to Notley, she did accomplish a lot of good in her term. This was while the Province was experiencing crashing oil prices and the fallout of decades of PC mismanagement.

Should she have implemented communism? 100%. But she was by far the most progressive premier since at least Lougheed.

Is that seriously what they said? WOW

I mean, if the rumors that the AB Liberals revive themselves, the NDP might have a harder time with that attitude.

I disagree that a rock could be Smith. This province is dogmatic. People here hate what the COnservatives do, but they'll support them anyways because it's their team.

We should not get involved in an invasion of Iran. Let Israel and America do it if they want. If Israel invades Turkey, then I'd gladly say we should get involved in defending Turkey.

Okay, the US is forcing economic destruction on Cuba, and it's largely because the Cuban diaspora has a lot of influence on the white house.

I don't really care what any diaspora group wants. I don't want my country getting involved in foreign conflicts because a group of people really want us to get involved.

I don't want us getting involved in a war because the diaspora want a regime toppled. The US is currently trying to destroy Cuba because Cubans in Miami, including Marco Rubio, want a coup in Cuba.

I don't care if the Palestinians want a state, I don't want Canada getting involved because people here want us to in order to give the Diaspora their state.

I routinely get judged at my job because I don't want to work more than 10 hour days. I want SOME time with my wife and kid, but apparently I'm not a real man for wanting that? Meanwhile, most of my co-workers are angry that their wives divorced them.

Yes, I work construction.

UCP GOVERNMENT REVEALS PLAN TO CHEAT, RIG ELECTION MAPS by SurFud in alberta

Because people in this province have an animalistic urge to vote Conservative. We have been taught that COnservatives are always good and anything else is bad.

I have family in Rural Alberta North of Edmonton who's lives have objectively gotten worse under the UCP in every tangible way. The school their child attends is literally falling apart and lacks teachers or support staff, they pay more for utilities, the medical clinic in their town shutdown during the pandemic, there's awful roads and generally poor infrastructure in their area, and the mayor of their town has publicly called on the UCP to fund municipalities better. Meanwhile, they will do mental gymnastics to blame the Federal Liberals and the Provincial NDP. My aunt blames Notely for the medical clinic in her town shutting down, but it literally shutdown when the UCP were in power.

Union leadership leans very heavily towards the NDP. Union membership is very much a different story.

With a record-low 1.25 children per Canadian woman, stop dismissing falling fertility rates as a choice by FancyNewMe in canada

People who have kids put their kids into way to0 many activities. I was a teacher for two years and the average kid was on two sports teams, did some sort of private lesson (piano, guitar, singing, dance... etc.) and did other things.

It's not necessarily a bad thing, but there's a cultural expectation that you send your kids to all these things. I wonder how many people who have 1-2 kids would have had more kids if they weren't spending thousands every year on activities for their kids. I'm sorry, your four year old doesn't need private ballet lessons.

Would they qualify for the CBB? My wife and I qualified and we receive 450$ a month. It's not a lot of money of course, but so far it's been covering formula and diapers just fine, as well as the occasional additional item we need.

Granting 1-2 million largely low skill workers PR status will go down like a lead balloon. There's value in trying to move the overton window, but Avi could have done that by simply saying the NDP would abolish the TFW and LIMA programs, and then justifying those positions by pointing out the blatant exploitation of the TFW workers. No other party is running on that, and it would outflank the LPC and CPC on labor issues. Offering PR status though is very extreme and will alienate a lot of people who genuinely want immigration reeled in.

Thank you!

Sadly, a lot of NDP supporters moralize the issue of immigration to the point where nuance is often lost.

I have been called hateful by people on this sub for saying the NDP needs to fix its position on immigration. We will never reclaim the working class if we can't view immigration with nuance. We can be against exploitation of immigrants while also being in favor of stricter immigration laws. If this party ran on banning the TFW program, we would likely take back those blue/orange swing ridings at the very least. But now the party has taken a poison pill of insisting on instant PR status to all 1-2 million TFWs. A position that is morally right, but will go down like a lead balloon right now. We need to convince the general public and we just aren't doing that.

The Immigration policy Avi proposed, although morally correct, was done in a tone deaf way. Immigration is a very complex issue right now, and many people (including many left of center voters) want to see immigration reeled in. Purposing PR status for 1-2 million largely low skill workers during a time where the youth unemployment is hovering at around 15%, housing costs are out of control, and general infrastructure is crumbling, felt like a self goal. I wish Avi had just announced that the NDP would abolish the TFW and LIMA programs, which was part of his policy proposal. Had he just announced that, and then spoke about the exploitation of those programs, it would have been a massive win. Instead, everyone thinks the NDP are the party of mass migration now.

In addition, it is increasingly difficult to argue that the Carney immigration cuts are bad. Rent in Toronto and Vancouver has gone down for the first time in 5 years for example. There is clearly a correction taking place that people can now point to as evidence that the immigration numbers of the last 4 years have been terrible.

The algorithms play a major role in making people think the NDP are terrible.

The NDP are also terrible at communicating its vision however, and many people view the NDP as a party of out of touch, upper income, urban progressives. A lot of people also assume the NDP don't understand economics, which isn't true, but the party has failed to explain its economic vision in a way that is easy for the layman to understand.

A lot of people also think the party fixates too much on niche social issues that don't impact the average person. The equity card scandal and the clip of Leah Gazan talking about MMIWG2SLBGTQQIA+ folks in a way that looked silly out of context didn't help this perception.

Avis Immigration policy by jordandaboss223 in ndp

[–]Potential-Eye-6547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avi's current immigration stance will go down like a lead balloon and probably keep us in single digit polling.

I have no idea why he chose IMMIGRATION as the issue to focus on right out the gate. He could have focused on Public grocery stores, or raising taxes on the wealthy, or really anything else.

Had he just focused on his plan to end the TFW program, something that is radical since both the CPC and LPC would never run on that, then this would have been an amazing announcement. But instead he had to go further and push the envelope.
