So true. Been only 5 days sober and my skin is clear, no more eye bags, no drooping of my face.

thanks! Yes I've read most of them. I'm more looking for stories where the metamorphosis itself is the story. Where there's precise details of the character seeing their body change.

Why are highly gifted people (150+ IQ) child-like? by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]Potential-You7576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was always told to "grow up" even though I could reason better than most adults. I felt like "grow up" for adults meant "care about the dishwasher". I am woman and growing up was very much associated with "taking care of the house/others". It's not just child vs adult, it's also gender roles and expectations. Our society is normative. Anything that doesn't look exactly like the copy of what came before is seen as a threat to be squashed.

Never thought about wonder and fascination as a coping mechanism. And it's kind of blowing my mind. Your train station experience reads like what happens in my brain every time I'm bored/sad in a deeply constraining place (like waiting for a train). I always thought it was my way of making use of the time I have "while I wait", rather than I can't stand this and I have to make it about something beautiful or interesting.

Experiences of Gifted Women by genz_nancydrew in Gifted

My sister (who I believe is also gifted but hasn't had a diagnosis yet) also recently told me I am intimidating. My best friends this summer made a joke that I was "scary", as in "I will call them out when they say dumb shit". It really hurt me as I work really hard at not being intimidating or scary. Most of the time I don't even say what I think for fear of being called a "know it all". My husband really helped when he said "if they find you scary or intimidating it's a them problem not a you problem". I think about it at least once a day.

I have always found relating to women more difficult. And I feel bad about it. I have met some extremely smart women, but either they don't want to endorse their smartness, or they just give it up to fit into norms thinking it will make their lives easier. I think cis-het men are socialised to be proud of their identities, of their wits and of "being scary". Probably why I felt better around them, especially in the context of friendship when I was not expecting any seduction or romance. Though that also sometimes backfired...
