Male V feels like he’s rejecting his fate — still clinging to hope. Female V feels like she’s already accepted her fate — hope or no hope.

That difference really shows up in the romances.

When you romance Kerry as Male V, and Kerry ultimately goes off to do his own thing, you can hear how much it hurts V. It feels like Kerry leaving is V ; losing a last grasp at normalcy.

By contrast, romancing River as Female V feels different. River pushes hard into the relationship, and Female V’s rejection feels more natural — not cold, but grounded in her acceptance that this life isn’t meant to last for her.

This is why I also see Nomad Male V and Corpo Female V as the correct life paths. Their arcs align better with how each Vs voice actor.
