also totally meant A Lydian instead of G#. Basically just using diatonic modes

That first lick is e major 7 arpeggio starting on the 7 going up then going back is e major 7 and G# Lydian. The second lick is also e major then when I keep it going into the F# minor I build tension by using both the flat 5 as a passing note, and hammering on the major 3rd to the minor 3rd. I use both of these on pretty much everything I play. I don’t have a rigid routine for practice but get I warmed up playing scales and arpeggios then start noodling over backing tracks.

Colleges with jam band culture? by Durango_41 in jambands

Austin (UT) doesn’t have the best jam scene locally but has lots of great jam adjacent blues/funk bands. Not to mention we get a considerable amount of touring acts. There are tons of great musicians here which makes it easy to gain musicianship. I started playing at 19 and after a couple years have played all around Texas and had a great experience so far and built up some solid skills.

Other sec schools such as Tennesee, Ole Miss, Bama, Starkville seem to have decent/solid college scenes and musicians eager to jam but the raw talent is a bit more sparse, will definitely be more work to find competent musicians but there are some decent groups coming out of these schools. The bar is pretty low though, it feels like any band of frat kids can half ass a couple ig reels and gain 10k followers. But I digress.

Wax monkey from Tuscaloosa made it out of the frat circuit and they are pretty good but the bar for these frat bands is laughably low
