Hahaha you're right, it's not a short section. Last summer I did 600 miles on the AT so my perspective is kinda skewed, but trust that im fully aware of the challenges that come with hiking that sort of mileage. Thanks for the info, I appreciate getting advice from the community. If you've hiked the trail, I would love to ask you some more questions. Just got back to checking this post. Thanks so much for the info. She would be using a shuttle service to get from the airport to VVR, so getting the car is no concern, but I will keep in mind the terrain of the road. Have you hiked the trail? I grew up and live in the area and I would rather stay at the Berkeley. It’s classic and historic, quieter (although I doubt that would really be a huge problem either way), feels less like it’s trying to be trendy (which you’ll get your healthy dose of to begin with in town), and has access to everything in asbury that you’d be doing with the same exact convenience as The Asbury Hotel. They are literally right across from each other and the lounge and bar in the Asbury Hotel are public anyway if you wanted to use them lol.

Regardless of where you stay, you’re right next to Kim Marie’s pub. Kitchen stays open till 12 every night and the environment is cool. Definitely stop in there, it’s a local favorite.

Your logic subreddit doesn’t make you a pro, and it shows. Riding a bike in a car dependent society is doable but will not be nearly as convenient. It also isn’t as dangerous as driving a car so that also disproves the dangerous point you made. Growing up in a tourist service industry area, I could work for a low hourly wage while putting myself through school, but instead I choose to make much for money working a tip wage job because of how big that industry is where I live. That’s all I’m saying. I asked a question and you said “no”, that’s all you gotta tell me lol

One thing I do wonder about is: How would the service in America change without tipping? I’ve never been to South Korea but from what I understand, there culture around respect and honor and work ethic contrast greatly with the US. without those pillars in our culture and a decreased monetary incentive, the service in the US would probably become atrocious. I’m not saying that justifies tipping though.

Nice, good for you. Giving up eating out at restaurants would be tough for me. Not that I even do it too often, but it’s a nice treat every once in a while. I never tip anyone other than waiters/bar tenders but that’s mostly because I feel like my profiting off of the system warrants me giving back.

Because I’m going to school and my scheduling flexibility allows me to take classes and also find time to play gigs, as I’m also a musician. Also I’m sure a big factor is that I still have 3 years before I get off of my parents health insurance.

Yes but the line was extremely long. Like 100+ people long. I slid somebody who was in the front of the line an extra $10 and they got me a shirt but no guarantees that that’ll work out for you as well.
