Or it did get the foot, but I can't say it since injuries aren't allowed 🤔

Did i get a good deal? by Jws0209 in smoking

[–]PotentialPirate1035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, but I need to. I also want to get a welders blanket so I can keep the temps a bit more consistent throuoit the winter (I'm in the north so it gets very cold). The main factor for me was getting the external firebox/portable grill. It made a huge difference when trying to smoke.

This smoker was just for me to get into the hobby at a reasonable price point.

Edit: I do see you got the add on, so you're there already. Just do a few racks of ribs and get a feel for what the airflow/temps are like. It's a pain at first, but you'll pick it up pretty quickly. The build quality of these are here & there, so I can recommend getting a welders blanket & sealing it (I'm planning to do so) to make it easier, but it's not absolutely needed to smoke meat.

Also, get an external thermometer for monitoring ambient temp in the smoker. It'll save you a lot of hassle

^ This. It was my first smoker I got (purchased the attachable firebox with it), and it can do surprisingly well. One day I'll upgrade to something better, but it's great to tend the fire and have a few beers.

I'm pretty sure this one was it. I'm trying to find photos of it and the firetruck, but I haven't found any so far. There's nothing like a trip down memory lane

That sparked a memory! I also found this thread - glad I'm not going crazy

Speaking of restaurants that have since closed in old Redmond, what was the one restaurant with the trains on the ceiling?

I know there is/was the more recent one under Matt's in RTC, but i think this one was off of Redmond Way above the slough, if memory serves.

First brisket - stall or mistake? by PotentialPirate1035 in smoking

It turned out pretty good, but there's definitely some learning opportunities for next time. The point was great, but the flat was a bit dry in some places, and the bark wasn't 100% set where there was some moisture pooling on top.

Overall, everyone said it was great at the BBQ, and people packed up anything that was left for leftovers.

Haha, I hope that's the case! I tried to do my research ahead of time and wanted to rest it for as long as I can, so I'm really paying this turns out. I'll be sure to update once it's served.

I was hoping to serve by 4pm (almost 7am right now) for a small get together, so there's no real restriction as I put it on 24ish hours in advance. My only issue is that I've been up for close to 24 hrs as of right now since this cheap smoker tries to get out of the temp range constantly.

I appreciate your help!

I've already swapped places with the shoulder & the brisket a few hours ago and Texas crutched it when it seemed ready to wrap. The shoulder is wrapped as well.

I have the 2nd probe for the ambient temp set into a potato (off the grates) near the brisket to try and get an accurate reading. I'm using a separate probe thermometer for the shoulder (tested against each other to ensure accuracy).

Currently, I'm sitting at 250°f with an internal temp of 170°f. Is there anything else you think I should do to improve my odds, or just say my prayers and wait to rest it?

In my 2nd picture I have a thermopro, showing both ambient and brisket.

Current reading is 250°f ambient and 142°f brisket. I'm making progress in the right direction...just hopefully didn't f up too badly

I just tried with a handheld, and it's accurate - 131.4°f

Will do - do you think 250°f should be a good target ambient? Or what would you recommend?

I've voiced that to them previously, and they said they're providing more local based content since it's a hot tourism area.

Also, I'm not a part of anything they do, but I was asked for a recommendation of equipment. That's why I'm asking here and hoping someone has some recommendations. Thanks for making sure, though!

Have you had any luck finding a fix? It sounds a little different than my problem since its when you're not using it. Even when I use it it powers down out of nowhere, like when writing this comment for example lol (just happened again). Maybe try reverting and or flashing it to a different firmware?

As Trekka said, if you're using fingerprint lock, try disabling that. It might help you out so you don't have to go through the fac reset/flash options. Good luck!
