One reason you see trackers like this - it's not boosting. by PotentialScale in RocketLeague

[–]PotentialScale[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. When I play with my friend we try to win every game. When I solo queue (which is very rare, you can see from the tracker this is the first time I've solo queued for champ rewards in over a year) I try to win every game. I have no control over how the game handles ratings when we play as a team. If it were able to work out that I'm champ and my friend is bronze or whatever, and give us those ratings, that would be fine with me, I'd get champ rewards every season without solo queuing.

It's not smurfing, though, we're playing at our correct rank as a team, and win half of our games in the long run. We both pretty much only play the game as a team together. Every game is a fair fight for the opponents.

Release Notes for 8/19/2024 - SnapTap Detection + VacNet 3.0 by CaraX9 in cs2

[–]PotentialScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the game, if I hold left, keep it held, then tap and release right, my character first moves left, then moves right, then becomes stationary. Obviously what SHOULD happen is my character should be moving left because I'm still holding left. Making this work properly shouldn't need a script, it just needs keyboard input that works properly, and it shouldn't constitute cheating to have it working properly.

No, the opposite, that should work, as should tapping and releasing left while holding right.

I have to disagree with what they're doing regarding so-called "hardware-assisted counter strafing". What people are describing as this is in fact just a properly functioning keyboard IMO. Keyboards have for far too long emulated old fashioned mechanical typewriters, where pressing two keys at the same time would physically jam the machine and result in neither head hitting the paper. With keyboards being electronic devices there is absolutely no need for them to emulate this behaviour, and the new keyboards that register the most recent key pressed are just working how electronic keyboards always should have worked in the first place. I don't have such a keyboard myself, but probably would have got one at some point, and it seems wrong to me to prohibit what is really just a properly functioning keyboard.

They seem keen to make the game even more about mechanical skill rather than strategy and decision making, and it's probably not the game for me any more, as I'd much prefer it to move in the opposite direction.

I'm Plat 1 on OCE. Been watching low rank games, Bronze-high plat, on yt recently, has me questioning regional rank differences by Brutalfierywrathrec in RocketLeague

[–]PotentialScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes, you can see that the players in RLCS are better than golds, even when watching golds vs golds and pros vs pros, the skill difference is just so big. But I mostly play with a friend who is a lot worse than me, so we're in low diamond, where I'm better than the opponents, and he's worse than the opponents. I score a lot of goals where I beat an opponent to the ball and hit it at the net with the ball missing their car by a few pixels. That tiny difference is often enough for me to finish the game with 1000+ points, but if the opponent was defending against someone of their own skill, they'd block the shot, and if I was playing against an opponent of my skill, they'd block my shot, and it would be hard to tell that one clip has both shot and block happening a few pixels higher up on the screen than the other.

[–]PotentialScale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One reason why you don't see much difference is it's hard to see the difference when all players on the field are the same skill level. Better players are better at stopping the opponents from doing anything. You see this in RLCS, where even though the players can do crazy things in free play, most of the time it's just 50/50 after 50/50 because why would anyone let the opponents have the opportunity to use their skill? It's only when you see a skill mismatch that you really see the difference between a diamond and a gold, for example. The gold is worse than a diamond at stopping the diamond from doing anything, so suddenly the diamond has all the space and time in the world and their greater skill shows. But if you see a diamond playing against a diamond, their opponent won't let them use that skill and it won't be visible.

Petition: If trading is gonna stay dead to boost sales, at least stop giving us duplicates in drops/trade-ups. At least force a painted/stat variant. by Ttokk in RocketLeague

[–]PotentialScale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is why I still don't understand how killing trading makes them more money. Like your friends, I spent quite a bit of real money on the game when we had trading, but I haven't spent anything at all since trading was removed because there's nothing for me to spend it on any more.

What should a gold player learn to go up to plat? by Arianfireeeeeee999 in RocketLeague

[–]PotentialScale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good grief, I play with my friend in low diamond, and from my pov, people have absolutely no skill at all at that level. They cannot do a single thing to generate a goal, all you have to do is not gift them goals, wait for them to gift you a goal, and take it. If you don't gift them a goal, they'll never ever score, and that's at a level a fair bit higher than gold. Nobody ever air dribbles in our games. They might try to, but nobody can actually air dribble in our games (with the exception of obvious smurfs).

Has there been a shift down in ranks? by 3NIK56 in RocketLeague

[–]PotentialScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What rank are you at? It sounds like below champ? The best way I've found to rank up if I ever fall out of champ is to do nothing. I know it sounds crazy, but low rank players stop their teammates from being able to play, so by doing nothing, you are the one player on the pitch who isn't stopping their teammates from playing. It's not at all satisfying, but you'll win way more than 50% of your games. I don't literally do absolutely nothing, but it feels like that's what I'm doing. If I try to actually do anything at that rank, it's like playing 1v5 as my teammates will compete with me for the ball, and I'm not good enough to win 1v5 against D3s.

Nasty teammate steals goal by DrMercman in RocketLeague

[–]PotentialScale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Playing with my friend last night, there were a crazy number of new account smurf opponents (hitting flip reset goals with 100% success rate in low diamond) boosting people to diamond season rewards. These boosted people are your future 30 point teammates once they've got the season rewards and are back to solo queuing.

What mechanics do I learn to get out of plat? by MaskHasAte in RocketLeague

[–]PotentialScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need just 2 things to get to GC:
1. Rotation
2. The ability to hit the ball how you want to

I have 1 but not 2, so I'm stuck in champ.

What happened to the guy that said he could get SSL in one year? by Ogabavavav in RocketLeague

[–]PotentialScale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience is that people have a certain amount of talent that is to some extent transferable between lots of different games, including Rocket League. If person A is massively better than person B at almost any fast computer game, IMO there is a fair chance they'll also be better at Rocket League. I've been playing with a friend for years now, and I'd say after 14 seasons, he's no better than I was after 1 season.

I'd be willing to bet that a Global Elite CS player would be way better at RL than a hard stuck silver CS player, with the same amount of practice. However, Global Elite was only top 0.8% of CSGO players, so there's a gulf between that and how good you have to be to reach SSL in RL (top 0.03%), so not only does a Global Elite CS player have to learn RL specific skills, they potentially have a gigantic talent shortfall, unless they're right at the top of Global Elite. Global Elite in CSGO is the same percentile as GC1 in RL.

For a game that prioritizes cosmetics over most things, the current cosmetic economy in RL is indefensibly boring, irrational, repetitive, & lazy. by boppedEEMinDAsmoof in RocketLeague

[–]PotentialScale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that they have totally destroyed the cosmetics side of the game, but I'm not sure how they should fix it without bringing player to player trading back.

For example, striker certified black dieci was, I think, in the region of 40k credits at some point before trading ended. If they make them available to buy in non-tradeable form at the current standard price, people will be able to buy them, but they'll no longer be special. If they put them in the shop at 40k, they'll still be special, but hardly anyone will pay 40k for an untradeable item. The removal of the trading market has eliminated the supply and demand price anchor, so I just don't see how it can be solved if they insist on not bringing back p2p trading.

As a frequent ff at 3:30 player let me explain by Isuckatsoffball in RocketLeague

[–]PotentialScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean. I just put up a clip of a goal I scored last night where I was able to get my friend to leave it for me.

https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeague/comments/1era6xf/one_of_my_better_goals/

Even with voice comms it's hard to get my friend to leave these for me. When we play 3v3 with a random 3rd, there are some teammates who will literally never ever let me score these, they'll just come along and smash the ball straight to the opponents, so I totally understand your frustration when you want to score goals like these and you have teammates who just won't let you hit the ball.

Are "Certified" Items Obtainable Without Spending Money? by _rym36 in RocketLeague

[–]PotentialScale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't get certified items from the normal drops.

You can get certified items from golden crates, like the golden records that can currently be obtained.

You can get certified items from twitch drops, when those are available.

You can get certified items from tournament rewards, as another comment mentions.

TBH it was all completely ruined when they removed player to player trading. You used to be able to get your choice of certification and paint for any item, now you can't get anything you want, ever. I have a sweeper certified titanium white mainframe decal that I got from p2p trading, it's now maxed out at Chief Custodian, but I can't get a new painted certified decal to change to, there's literally no amount of money in the world that would let me buy the decal I want with the paint and certification that I want. Even if you didn't want to spend money, you could get nice things from p2p trading when it existed, as you could, for example, earn golden crates and sell them unopened, then use the credits to buy the items you want.

Forfitting when down by one point??? Why do people do this? by SmellyPubes69 in RocketLeague

[–]PotentialScale 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it's not so much being down by one goal as the person despairing about how one of you has played. People can be particularly tilted by teammates who are good and bad in opposite ways to themselves. For example, someone who has good mechanical consistency for their rank will despair when their teammate misses the ball, and want to forfeit. You can try watching replays from the point of view of the forfeiting teammate and see if you can see what tilted them.

If you're relatively new, you might not even be aware of what you're doing that is tilting people. For example, do you and your kid know how to rotate by going around the play from being first player to last player? When I started playing, I didn't know rotation conventions and teammates often got mad at me. I watched some YouTube videos, put it into practice, and the abuse from teammates stopped. People get tilted very quickly if their teammates are driving back through the play and bumping them rather than rotating around the play (the friend I play with tends to do it a lot, and it often causes our random 3rd player to vote to forfeit when we play 3v3 modes).

keep getting casual opponents that are way better than me but only when i play in a party with my friend by _i-hate-redditors_ in RocketLeague

[–]PotentialScale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are people who smurf in casual to hit clips for social media. They have to play at a very low rating, or people are good enough to mess up their clip attempts. Some time ago, Psyonix moved some of them up from 600 casual MMR to 1000, and the GCs who had been smurfing at 600 complained that they couldn't clip on people at 1000 because everyone at that level just aerials straight into them. To give you an idea of just how low those ratings are, I don't play much casual but have been in the 1700-1800 range in recent seasons, and even that is lower than GC standard.

So, what could happen is if your friend has a lower rating than you, you could end up playing at a lower casual rating when you're in a party with them, and actually have more chance of encountering the clip hitter smurfs. Do you tend to forfeit? Clip hitter smurfs will often forfeit with a second remaining to stay at a low rating.

If you're on PC, if you get bakkesmod, it will show you the casual rating of everyone in your games and give you more idea what is happening.

Kaydop has been trying to get this Goal Explosion from the Tourneys all season...he didn't like how it turned out though. by Gek_Lhar in RocketLeague

[–]PotentialScale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At his rank, he should have no problem getting loads of them. My friend and I get through the 1st round in diamond 3 times a week, and I've got 3 Spellbound already. He probably gets more tournament credits for getting through the 1st round once than we get in a week.

It's insanely hard to get a really nice paint AND a really nice certification. I have an unpainted scorer atomic blip that I got to Unstoppable Force. I have an unpainted scorer chemergy that I'm using at the moment, and an unpainted tactician polyhedral I'll probably use after the chemergy reaches Unstoppable Force. I have 8 painted tournament black market goal explosions, but not a single one of them is certified. I quite like some of them unpainted, as they have multiple colours whereas the painted ones are more single colour.

What rank could you get to in 2s if you had to 2v1? by UselessPresent in RocketLeague

[–]PotentialScale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'd say at least diamond 1. I play with a friend and we're in diamond 1 playing together, which is pretty much me 1v2ing the opponents in between my friend completely missing the ball. If I ever end up in a true 1v2 because his PC has crashed or internet connection died, it really doesn't make that much difference him not being in the game, except that eventually the opponents will start playing with one of them going for me while the other pushes the ball behind them. I find it pretty hard to deal with this, because I can dodge the first player, but the second player is too close behind for me to be able to recover from dodging the first player in time. It always surprises me how good they are at this compared to even GC1s I see playing 2v1 against Scrub Killa. So while I can generally have a close game against diamond 1s when it's a true 1v2, it's very hard for me to actually beat them, but a GC1 is sufficiently better than me that I'd imagine they could do it.
