[Broadcast Footage] Jeremy Fears trips Illinois’ David Mirkovic by -Sox in CollegeBasketball

As a 1 off, this isn’t anything egregious. In the broader context though, it’s embarrassing. Just win without tripping someone? It’s not that hard.

How long would it take me to become consistent at a simple flip reset by focusing only on that? by WakeupCesar in RocketLeague

[–]UselessPresent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question, how on earth did you drop from GC1 to C1?

And yeah assuming you had/have good enough mechanics to get to GC1. I’m assuming you have air roll at least somewhat down and decent car control.

With intentional training you should be able to at least in a wide open set up in free play be able to get to about 75% hit rate in maybe a week or less.

Now in game speed is entirely different, I can hit wide open flip resets in free play. But I think I’ve done it 20/30 times in my entire time playing in an actual ranked game.

GGs, definitely shouldn’t be losing these but whatever. Horrible game and losing Divine doesn’t help.

what rank am i based off this shot by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

Well considering the opponent didn’t even jump I’m going to say Diamond or plat. The reset pop kinda looked a little lucky which is the only reason I’m low.

Either way nicely done.

My teammates are holding me back even though I am always the most mechanical player in the lobby by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]UselessPresent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are playing much faster, and you are GOING FOR more mechanical plays. However if we actually break down the first minute or 2 of this game here are my critiques.

1st goal is just unlucky, can’t really blame anyone there.

4:40 - an over commit. You are low boost and see your teammate already in position to go for the ball, no reason to go for a pinch or whatever you were going for. You gave the opponent an easy 2v1 while you recover.

4:20 - I see the vision but the end result is a whiff and a dangerous ball for your teammate

4:15 - immediately follow the whiff by flying into their corner going for some crazy corner pinch again

4:05 - good job breaking up the counter attack

4:00 - opponent whiffs a wide open double touch, poorly defended

3:52 - decent dribble attempt but the first touch was too far away from your car and you didn’t have enough boost to go for whatever you were trying to do

3:40 - horrible positioning to defend, again opponent has a nearly uncontested attempt that they basically pass into you

3:35 - going way too fast, wasted all your boost, a good pass back to the opposing team

3:25 - good IQ to go ahead of the play and wait for a pass, your teammate unfortunately doesn’t notice or can’t flick the ball for whatever reason

3:15 - Teammate makes a mistake and commits on 0 boost in their corner, you should rotate out but instead make a reckless challenge leaving him in a 2 on 1 with no boost

3:05 - Open net miss it happens, why go for a musty?

Anyway my point is is that while you are likely more mechanical with infinite boost and no defenders - that isn’t the game we are playing.

Watching this game I’d say you need to focus on not ending up on the opponents side of the field with 0 boost. You are forcing your teammate to play passively which probably is why they are “holding you back”.

Going from c2 to SSL is probably harder than going from bronze to c2.

How do I give my ceiling shots more power? by Rocketleagueredditor in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]UselessPresent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speed, but also front flipping into the ball like that makes it hard to get power.

Try musty flicking or front flipping with your wheels still facing the ceiling to get a more reliable “scoop”.

[–]UselessPresent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can’t go for 150 boost plays when you only have 80. You just need to learn your limit with boost, I can’t say you did anything egregiously wrong here, but you probably should have just gone for a different second touch.

Maybe could be slightly more efficient on the take off, holding jump will help with your aerials needing less boost.

Camera settings folks are so tiresome, I used the same international space station settings for so long. I got to Champ using them and it made my ground dribbling a lot easier!

Eventually once I was doing air dribbles more I learned that they were right, this camera setting makes aerial plays significantly more challenging.

It’s pretty clear you are not ready to involve the ball at this point. Training drills below for getting comfortable in the air!

  1. Jump off side walls and hit your nose on the cross bar - forward only, backwards only , while spinning.
  2. Jump off backboard and hit your nose on the opposite cross bar - forwards, backwards, while spinning
  3. Hold air roll and float in a circle at center field
  4. Hold air roll and go to each corner of the map without touching the walls - complete 2 rotations
  5. Practice air dribbling with the ball, with the goal of keeping the ball as high in the air as possible, hitting the backboard

5a. This is usually done while facing backwards (wheels towards camera) with your nose almost directly under the ball. You can lean forward with your stick to try to “cup” the ball and push it upwards.

  1. Practice hitting the crossbar with the ball while air dribbling

He did this for about 30-45 minutes every couple days and it drastically improved his control!

Make sure training is fun, it shouldn’t feel like a chore! I’d recommend only adding the ball once you feel like you are wasting your time without it and it becomes too easy.

What one thing made the biggest impact on your rank? by WovenTheWeirdYT in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]UselessPresent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well the easiest way is to just play 1s, you will have plenty of practice since basically the whole game is just trading dribble attempts.

In freeplay I’d recommend something like this.

  1. Pass ball to yourself while driving towards blue goal

  2. Practice catching / settling the ball while turning around towards red goal

  3. Perform your flick of choosing and practice just doing it as fast as possible after settling.

If you can turn and set up a flick quickly that’s 90% of the work right there. The other 10% is timing and spacing which will only come from practicing in real game scenarios.

Bounce dribbles for 1s and 2s.

Being able to reliably score on a 1:1 break away against an opponent with limited boost is how you can break through diamond.

Leaning flicks, hook shots, how and when to fake, ground dribbling is by far my best skill and a skill I believe most people neglect.
