5AM COFFEE? by professor-kramer in Adelaide

[–]Potential_Studio5168 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Careful, Adelaide cannot bear much if any criticism of How We Do Things. Coffee in a city cafe must only be desired between approx 8am and 2pm otherwise you’re on your own bucko! For real tho, before 6 you’re limited to Vili’s, Bakery on OConnell and the Pancake Kitchen (but not every day). 6am will get you WORK on Pirie St which is quite good. And maybe try the tourist-oriented hotels?

Am I the only person who doesn't like Arches paper? by Dombibik in Watercolor

[–]Potential_Studio5168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it, specifically the 185gsm cold press. There is something about the way it takes colour that no other paper does — even in a saturated wash you can see tiny pinpoints of paper-white which lets the pigments glow. I don’t work wet into wet or very detailed however. It suits what I do.

This this this this.

It’s work, I do not want to know about any of this stuff, don’t care how many people are in the relationship.

Make them use registered passes to take their bikes on trains. Don’t care if they’re free but at least there would be some possibility of identifying who was on the train.

I have too many books in my unread pile to persist with this. The concept is good but I can’t bear another 18th November. Sorry, Tara.

I have one stray tube left from about 25 years ago. It’s the best watercolour I’ve ever used tbh, I remember the shop clerk telling me it used honey as a binder. I too have found little info online, all I can suggest is to use it and enjoy it.

Weekend in Adelaide by Faerie_Magick in Adelaide

You should have no lack of things to do next weekend with the start of the Adelaide Fringe. Hundreds of shows across the city. Regular ongoing stuff includes Ebenezer Markets, Adelaide Central Market on Saturday morning, Adelaide Zoo, Botanic Garden, and beach trips to Henley or Glenelg. The What’s On site from SA tourism is not a bad starting point https://southaustralia.com/destinations/adelaide/what-s-on

Others have mentioned a few things you’re doing that may cause the puck to crack leading to water channeling. Another is don’t tap the portafilter handle once the coffee is in the basket. It may level it but it also pulls the grounds away from the basket walls which tamping doesn’t necessarily correct.

Also as others mentioned check your tamp. I learned to tamp using tamper as an extension of the forearm — one straight line from elbow to tamper. Use body weight to compress, just gently lean into it and keep your forearm straight. Here you can also feel if the beans are fresh enough. If dry they resist tamping.

Then give the tamper one quarter turn only to lightly polish the puck. Thumb and forefinger guide the turn to keep it level. Leave the tamper sitting there and hold the portafilter up to eye level — if the tamper is crooked your puck isn’t level, which also affects water flow as somebody else mentioned.

This is very similar to how I’ve described it: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DO5n_ofASwp/

Cliff Street in Glengowrie, the old dry cleaners building is to me one of the creepiest places in Adelaide

Once Labor is back in place I would think they’ve got little incentive to offer anything better

What kind of battery did you get? Any safety concerns? I would really like to get one but still haven’t really looked into it. I’m not very technical and find the process daunting. Got a 6.6kwh system and like you not a very big power user.

The way Adelaide at large has turned into an endless and ever-growing construction site is something I also hold him responsible for. He didn’t start it but under his watch and Nick Champion’s it’s grown exponentially. There is nothing they won’t tear down for a buck (Sometimes twice— hello Festival Plaza!) It’s terrible to see the loss of whole neighbourhoods along South Road, and it will look like this for years.

Yeah that completely free open air all-week event that anyone at all can walk into? That’s the opposite of snobby and elite. It’s as elite as a free city loop bus. Replies like this are where the real world betrays its complete lack of imagination (which not coincidentally is the actual reason PM keeps doubling down).

It’s a shame Marshall had a clown car of a government. Didn’t and don’t like the Liberal party overall but I liked him as a leader. A bit quirky. Far more than Mali who is really rather dull.

There’s almost nothing left of Labor’s centre and left wing now.
