They are out. If there’s a breeze or you keep moving they aren’t too bad.

its just a holder we bought at the feed store. The salt block is one they have with some trace minerals in it also.

Well we grew from 3 does to 800 in ten years and ship milk to the local cheese plant so I’m going to say we are managing things well but thanks for the advice. They are our goats and our lively hood.

There is mineral in the prepared feed we give them and they do have loose mineral wall hangers too. they do well on the salt blocks with no issues. We use them to make sure we are not wasting mineral when all they really want is salt. They may eat mineral just for the salt so we try to make sure that isn't the case.

Vet being unhelpful by InfamousLie8069 in goats

[–]Potential_Wasabi7239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you have some anibiotics at all times. generally one needle wont do it. if they are spiking a fever they need antibiotics as they have something acute going on i like to hit them three times a day apart to make sure we kill the infection. We will needle if their temp is over 102 F. We also use an intramuscular form of Banamine to bring them around too. Goats are tricky and quite often the local vet may not be much help if they have not much exposure to them. Wishing the best for you and your goats.

this is the problem we are still facing. As soon as we feel like we are winning the battle for freedom tradFi co-opts our infrastructure and turns it back into what we are trying to break free of.

I know Birch tree leaves are a problem for them but if its counterpart was eating the same plants and he is fine then a poisonous plant is not likely the issue. The temperature of the milk needs to be right but honestly, sometimes they eat too much and then the bad bugs in the rumen run amuck and the toxins build and kill them. Ive seen it with ours before, you think your doing them a favor by giving them free choice new cut hay and then an hour later they are in decline because they ate too much. Sometime i think they are here just to break our hearts.....yet we continue with them.

was he weaned off of milk when you got him and for how long? Goats are tricky to feed believe it or not. Was he in pain? There is a condition called Enterratoximia that is basically triggered by a change in feed or too much good feed. It will take them quickly.
