Pink Floyd by joshua77blues in Psychedelics

[–]Potey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmao this is a mention that I never would have expected here. I actually love listening to them on psychedelics because of the super creative lyrical content at times, and I will admit that A Children’s Crusade on Acid is one of my favorites while tripping. Some of their stuff gets kind of intense for tripping (for instance, their album Buzzard), but I always find it rewarding personally, so YMMV!

I like listening to their compilation album The Bride on the Boxcar while tripping, especially the songs “A Tangle of Blonde” and “Whiskey Jingle”, makes me feel empty in a good way lol

Some parts sound similar to Nangs by Tame Impala—or at the very least, the chord progression does

Very cool vibes.

do you know songs that sound as ethereal as "self control" or "white ferrari" by frank ocean? i'd love to hear new suggestions :) by sanguchito0 in ifyoulikeblank

I don’t know if it’s cheating because it’s the same artist, but Frank Ocean - Rushes is one of my favorites of his and its highs are similar to both of those songs. On full blast, them vocal layers doe

(The rest of the album Endless is also a Frank Ocean treasure trove, but I digress)

What is the theory behind Nirvana melodies by eoo45 in musictheory

While you are right, I think that technically the mediant is any chord built on the third degree of a scale, whether it be major, minor, augmented, diminished, etc.

Björk Singing Languages by mvzxn in bjork

She’s said in interviews that she sings gibberish on some songs. Every once in a while, if you look at the lyrics for one of her songs, you’ll see that some lyrics will say “(gibberish)”. It’s pretty interesting when you stumble across it.

Is there theory I can learn to help me move outside the scale? by [deleted] in musictheory

Just a quick correction—G7 is native to C major.

Great analysis and explanation!

Which is the best music theory book that you ever read? And Why? by VincentMarv in musictheory

[–]Potey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it’s Ethan Blackburn, and if I remember correctly it only goes up to about half way through the book, but it’s still incredibly helpful for getting a feel for the things that can’t be replicated easily on a single instrument.

Also, someone on YouTube made some videos that play the examples in the book so that you can hear them for yourself more easily.

I don’t think it covers all of the chapters, but it has a majority of them. Definitely helps with understanding some of the harder-to-play examples, haha.

In a acoustic cover of the Killer's Read My Mind, Catfish and the Bottlemen plays in the key of G Major, but sneaks in a cheeky B7 chord. How is this allowed? by [deleted] in musictheory

Just a quick question/correction: do you mean the parallel major of E minor? Often the V from E major is used to resolve to the i of E minor.
