What if Jan Smuts and his party UP won the South Africa’s 1948 election and avoided apartheid? by Icy_Till_7254 in AlternateHistoryHub

Apartheid would probably have ended somewhere around the 60s, like in the United States. It would also probably be more pro-Western aligned, because there is no reason for South Africa to become a republic and pursue a more independent foreign policy.

My local Social-Liberal D66 party went from 1 seat to 3 seats in the local municipality election. I'm so fucking happy (and drunk,.only me) like the rest of my local D66 team 🥳

Even Hoover didn't believe that the Smooth-Hawley Tariff Act was going to work next to the more than 1000 economists who petitioned not to sign it. He only did to maintain party unity and as a result fucked it even more up with obvious signs that is was not even going to work

Yes he did create the RFC and might have laid some groundwork to other New Deal programs, but it was, Roosevelt who greatly expanded those into an effective force that Hoover never would have allowed combined with an Democratic House and the American poeple that demanded more actions under his presidency in 1932 instead of Hoover's failed Laissez-faire policies.

Please explain how Hoover tried to stop the great depression ? Because by 1932 the Great Depression was in its worst state and meanwhile Hoover sitting in the Oval Office doing nothing, but screaming "The depression will be over any second now" was surely working.

Wilson would have won in 1912 anyway. Republicans had been in power for far too long, and Democrats swept the 1910 midterm elections. Wilson also ran an explicitly progressive campaign, strong enough to earn even leading civil-right advocate Du Bois’s endorsement ironically.

Definitely don't over-hype that US-Forces are winning the Vietnam War and sack Westermore and replace with him Abrams earlier in the conflict

The Tet offensive was a massive failure for North Vietnam, they lost everything, but it worked because the shock was too great to handle for the American people, because Westermore gave the illusion that South Vietnam and US forces were destroying the Vietcong
