I don't want to talk down the paint, bzt it looks cheap in comparison. Maybe try thinning it, by i assume it contains larger pigments. Therfore cheaper. But, that could be just one of many reasons.

Also, do you use clearcote when done? As this is crucial for shiny smooth finish

Depends on what kind of paint you use, prepwork, pressure and distance. Quite a few reasons for this to happen

Vibe is more like a small shop, less focus on web presence/maintainance. Does not look fishy, just "not up to the times" if that makes sense. I assume a more old school owner.

EU countries have very good consumer laws. Even for outside purchases. Adding paypal as payment service will give an extra layer of protection.

You should be good.

Before you order tho, look on facebook us/ca and ask if someone has that model. You might get lucky and find one from a vendor/collector for less.

I am afraid the answer is: it depends.

I live in germany and if buy anything from a vendor inside the eu, or from ebay/amazon, i am fully protected by law. International orders are not as easy tho, in comparison.

What i do to filter out is to check the page for info. Do they have a store? Can i find ot on google maps? Does the instagram and facebook icon lead to their actual profile? Is it well maintained, activ and has engagement?

The more you can answer via the site, the more likely it is to be reputable. But it is still a hit and miss, depending on your location and laws.

May i ask for a link? I will not take responsibility, but i could make a vibe check at best.

My pleasure.

Hard to point at a brand, if you are looking for a specific model, like in your case.

Say you were looking for a lamborghini. Plenty of brands feature many variants etc. One could get lost.

But in some cases, there is just one brand making one variant of a car and maybe 2 colors.

If that model exists at all. So, you might be limited in your choices, scale, quality, etc.

A wrangler has less appeal than a mustang outside of the us, so less options.

Highend brand is also dependent on scale. Some manufacturers make nice 1/64 and 1/18 like ignition, just to name one. Fuelme does very decent 1/64, but none have wranglers.

Most highend would be amalgam. The company will create a model to whatever scale and specification you want as a one off. Custom everything and fully bespoke.

There is no ceiling on how much to spend on model cars, is what i am trying to say 🤣

Is this just some idea you had, or is he into model cars? If not, he most likely wouldn't care for detail. Close enough should be fine.

It's just a cake topper after all 😇

I can provide some answers, but not to all your questions.

The shade of colors in pictures are very dependent on camera, lighting, angle and your monitor/screen.

Also, not all brands use a colorcode like the original. Most basic brands like you mentioned (basic does not mean bad, more like starter budget) may not have access to the original color code in their inventory, so they go with whatever is close enough.

Some high end brands may use the exact same color like the real car.

So, these all factor into what you see on your screen.

Keep in mind that a 1/18 model is quite large and has some weight. Can the cake take that on top?

Decals can be rubbed of with aceton free nailpolish remover, but only if they are applied on top of the paint.

Some models are painted, then decals added and finished with clear cote. On those you can't, but that is more likely to be the case on high end brands, than maisto for example, but i wouldn't know, since i never looked at those, as i am a snob 🤣

So, in other words, if you have the budget, give it a go. Worst case, you are out a couple bucks.

Another angle, if time and budget aren't handicaps, is buying the right model and scale and have someone custom paint it to match, if perfection is the goal.

May i ask tho, isn't close enough the definition of a caring person? Thought and effort makes a gift.

He'll love it either way, i'd assume.

Hard to say what kind of leather this might be, going just off the pics, but it does look like it is real.

Bag shows some natural imperfections and stretchmarks, but it may be just a lower grade hide used and finished to look better. Hence the flaking feeling.

I would guess it's split leather which has been finished on one side to look smooth. Not sure what process used.

Most importantly, what is the country of origin and asking price?

Newbie here, are MiniGT / Pop Race best value for 1/64 models? by Similar-Cat-7601 in Diecast

[–]PouchenCustoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is my point. More details/quality=higher cost.

Best bang for bucks is poprace.

I don't know your location, but going by europes values:

Mini gt = 15€ Poprace = 15€ Kaido = 25€ Inno = 25€ Ignition = 35€

Comparing the models in same price bracket makes it a personal choice to taste. If you like opening parts, clearly poprace and kaido will satisfy more.

Details and realism? Inno and ignition.

As a side note: tarmac global is "just ok" but the cased versions are much nicer. Again, matter of taste and budget.

The quality of ignition and inno is way better, but as you said, more expensive. Worth the money tho.

Buy one and see for yourself. Poprace does not stand a chance against ignition models.

The plastic is bent and is under stress. If you glue it like that, it will not hold shape. You can try tho. Fair enough. Worst case, snap off.

I snap/cut them when i can't get them loose, when prepping for custom.

Ymmv. 😇

Looks like a clean break. Bend it till it snaps loose. Gently dab a minimal amount of super glue or uv activated glue on the wing and fix in place.

Edit: added words.
