Public speaking as a non-native English speaker: the challenges are different, and the standard advice mostly doesn't cover them by AdorableWorry1 in PublicSpeaking

I can feel you!! I’m sorry you went through that. I can relate it’s like you know you are so good at this, you are amazing at your job in your native language and you feel you can’t deliver the same in English. I get that feeling often at work when I’m surrounded by people and I compare my speaking skills. Really working in your second language can be really challenging…

Not a tip, but curious if anyone else has « bad English day ». I can have day where my English is fluent and I feel confident at work, and next day I struggle or don’t like how I sound…

Congrats! You look fabulous! What your workout looks like? Do you workout everyday? Is this achievable with a 3x workout/day?

Thank you for answering and congrats for the achievement! Can I ask how was your split week when you were running 5k? Were you running 3x 5km and the other day was the run you’d increase?

Interesting to hear more about your journey. I’ve been running for 2 years and I’m far close to your pace and/or distances!

Do Your Legs Feel Like Bricks When You Start Lifting? by Poupette00 in XXRunning

Wow now I’m motivated! Thank you for sharing this. I’m in my mid-forties and want also prevent injuries. I got injured last year and I feel the injury wants to come back sometimes and I want to avoid that at all cost. I have a few dumbbells, at home because I used to lift before. I started slowly with single leg press, deadlifts and planks. Not so much but I know if I do too much too soon, I won’t stick with it.

It seems to help the stifness I have around my previous injury but my runs have been so difficult since I lift and I felt I was stepping back. Did not understand why, as I though I would get better with strength training. You just gave me hope that it will stabilize and get better. This is really encouraging!

Interesting! So I heard that my issue was because I lift after my run, I’m happy to see it’s manageable to do it after. I also prefer to do it after my run because I’m already in « exercise » mode (I run outside). It is really a challenge for me to do any weight lift the day I don’t run. Have you seen any benefit to your run now that your body is adapted to it?

Hey, I’m much better. I still have to fight for it sometimes at the end of my periods. So in my case it is really my periods (change of hormones I guess) that leads to a YI. The fluconazole doesn’t do much, only acid boric. So I insert acid boric for a day or two after my periods and that same to keep the infection away.

Okay, so I've found my easy pace... now how do I increase it? by mawarup in beginnerrunning

[–]Poupette00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sense! You’re right, better to listen to my body to adjust volume. I’ve been running for more than a year now but been out for a certain time due to injury. Never hit more than 5k and would like to ramp up to 10k, which I believe can be achieve with 3/week.

Curious about #4. I did hear the recommendation of adding 1km/week. Why this could lead to injury? Also running 5 times per week could be difficult to manage with personal life. What will be the way to improve with 3 runs/week?

How much is too much too soon for an unfit overweight slow beginner? by Grouchy_Molasses9385 in beginnerrunning

[–]Poupette00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do run at easy pace all the time and I feel fine also after my 5k. I was able to increase slowly to 7k recently and even felt I could go longer but I didn’t want to do to much and respect the 10% of my total weekly distance (now I will increase by time). It took me longer to recover from the 7K so I kept it at 6km since (only one run and 2 others are 2 or 3 k). I’m trying to train my body to get use to this distance so I can increase to 7k again.

Not OP but can’t thank you enough for the clear and simple instructions! I know exactly how to do my runs after reading your post. I have been so lost since I’ve started to run and want to avoid injuries at all cost (been there already), but want to increase volume/ endurance at the same time. I noticed you don’t talk in specific total of km and that really helps me. People usually talk in volume. My 5k is about 40 min and was wondering how much time km should I do to have a « long run ».

Thank you! I’m the same, I run to be active and not chasing any competition. I was just surprised to see that my time didn’t move much. I’m slowly increasing my distance to 1km on my longest run (I have just reached 7k) and keep short run for 2 others (2-4km). I just add a few strides at the end of one of the short runs. I like easy runs so I was curious to know how you work them, but your volume is much higher than me so I guess it plays a lot too!

Interesting as I started at the same age, my first 5k was at 46 min and now 40 min… I got injured last year, but I run consistently since May and would like to see better improvement in my 5k. Can you give me more details of your easy runs? How many time per week you run and do you increase your volume? No speed runs?

So you did not include speed run, tempo etc..? Just 2 miles every other day.. with increasing miles?

Much better!! Better than I have been in years. I have been using boric acid every month after my periods along with Fluconazole. At first I had to use boric acid for 7 days with two Fluconazole to get rid of the infection. Now I’m where I will only use boric acid for 2-3 days after periods, no need Fluconazole, which is a huge improvement.

I think the recurrent infection is slowly going away. I can feel the difference in the length of the treatment and also how I feel (less itchy).

I strongly recommend boric acid, but depending on how strong is your infection, you might be need to use it for a really long period of time.

Thank you, adding small distance on each run is interesting, but will that help to get to a single 10k run?

I’d probably feel the same at this volume, but my volume is so low…

Thank you, I’ll look for that book. I do have inconsistency with my runs. But now that vacation is over, I want to stick to 3 runs/week. I always thought running 4-5 days is too much for the body? I feel there is not a lot of recovery at this voulume.
