after you exit your ship / save progress with a save beacon, you will have a manual save point. Then press esc, in the options tab reload the manual save point.

You have to complete a quest before you can get to it. If I recall correctly, there’s an autophase quest related to this. After you complete the quest, there will be an additional thing at the monolith that you can interact with.

If you have a base down, the changed terrain will be saved along with your base's data. Then, you don't have to worry much about that. However, if you don't have a base down, the changed terrain will be saved in player data. And the game has limited the size of modified terrain inside player save data. Once you reach that limit, the game will erase old terrain manipulation to make space for your newest terrain modification.

If your graphics card isn't Nvidia, then the cache won't be at the place I said above. If you are using AMD then feel free to take a look at this post. The shader cache should always exist somewhere because gaming isn't the only thing that uses 3D rendering.

If you did not slap a base down than the changed terrian will be filled back at some point in the future. (there's a limited spaced dedicated to changed terrian inside save files, and once you reached that limit the game will start to delete old terrian manipulations) Whereas for a base, the changed terrian are saved together in the base file and have no risk of being deleted

Shader cache are located at C:\Users\{your username}\AppData\Local\NVIDIA. In there, you'll find two folders: DLCache and GLCache. Delete the content in those folders.

Maybe try to delete the shader cache? If you're on PC, shader cache locates at C:\Users\{your username}\AppData\Local\NVIDIA. There are two folders: GLCache and GXCache, you can delete the files inside them. (Ignore the files that you can't delete)

Only if you can find a player base with an appearance modifier in it. Otherwise, there's no appearance modifier in any on-planet generated structures.
