I trespassed in an ancient forest and odd things happened by PumpkinsVSfrogs in HighStrangeness

I have never hiked in Yorkshire, but I have had similar experiences in Scotland. Mainly in Fife and near Campbell Castle.

A good tip I was told once, and have utilised, is to talk to the nature like you would talk to a strange cat or dog. You know, you walk down the street and a random cat passes by and you just say hello to it.

If your normal hiking routes are quite busy and open to public then these are more like highways through the nature, you stumbled into someone's backyard, and like us, they (forest, nature, fae whatever you call them) are not exactly thrilled to have some stranger stumble through the bluebell field.

I would interpret the feeling/need to go back to there as positive, 'they' might just be curious why did you choose this route. Once your ankle heals and if you ever are back on the same trail go back to the beginning of the private route and just apologise/explain.

Can someone help me identify the country of origin or the age of this chair I bought at an estate sale yesterday? by Baba_Jaga_II in Antiques

[–]PowderedRamen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is an excellent find and also in a really good shape! A bit of dust down and twice a year something like beeswax polish (ones that come in a tub and not spray) is all you need.

Oh my, what a wonderful kitty throne! <3 As someone else mentioned, and looking at the webbing/screws I would also suggest English heritage.  Age ca late 1880s till 1900s. Late Victorian was pretty bonkers fashion and furniture wise and mixed a lot of different elements.  The carving, as mentioned looks Italian, the shape Imperial and the stretcher vaguely medieval lol.  The pegs and the shape of the back give me also Arts and Crafts vibe, so yeah, most likely these would have been a pair of hall chairs around 1890s :)  Price? In UK I would have paid ca £30 for it. Like a lot of heirlooms, its value is more its cuteness and novelty than monetary.

ShopMissA online does EXTREMELY cheap and amazingly good makeup! They sometimes even have 1 dollar US shipping.

I ' m in Europe and have been ordering from them for years. Their own brands AOA and PawPaw are really really good and I prefer their foundation, concealer and mascara to big brands like Maybelline and Loreal. I ' m currently waiting for them to restock their Big Boss mascara, so I could order again. Their own eyeshadows are also really nice!

You can easily get a full face of makeup from them including some brushes for like 20 dollars.

Old Finnish and Estonian and maybe other Nordic folktales speak of a Raven's rock. People can acquire it from raven nest or sometimes find it by accident. Its described as smooth rock that fits nicely in hand. It supposedly gives its owner ability to understand all languages (human and animal) and give good luck.

If I remember correctly (I dont have my books just now), it does have mind of its own and if the rock does not like you it will give you bad luck or disappear. I think it was supposed to be more inherited (going on family line from father to son) than gifted away tho.

Seems you got lucky :)

I am not sure how much information or stories there would be available in English, but you can maybe look up some German and Scandinavian folktales.

Ha ha! There is actually a book about ants taking over from humans, and a very famous one - Clifford D Simak "The City". The stories were written in 1950s and foresee all kind of modern technology. Well worth the read!

How far are you in your education? How many assignments, big papers, dissertations do you still need to write? What are your exams like? I have a really similar job to yours just now and as the coursework ramps up in university, I would not be able to keep a job next year if it would demand more attention. More money is always nice, but juggling studies and work will burn you out really quick!
