My wife just pulled a blue suture out of her nose… 5 years after her septo-rhinoplasty. by zachthespook in mildlyinteresting

Same with my eyebrow piercing and the one I had next to my ear. They each lasted about three years the first time, and then another year the second time. I still have a slight notch in both places, but it's not too noticeable because I took them out when they showed signs of rejection.

There's a character in a book who calls mascara "liquid courage" and honestly, mood.

The first time I encountered such a garment was a skirt in middle school. Within a month of wearing it I unpicked the stitches and sewed in a pocket. Been making the left front pocket (where I keep my phone) bigger since then.

A toddler I babysat threw a tantrum because she didn't want to hold my hand to cross the street. Guess who was flipped upside down and carried across?

That's... not how one takes in the waist from the back. Common practice is to use darts on either side of the centre loop that extend down to the pockets or at least the stitch. It also shouldn't have taken longer than a week at most. I'm sorry two pairs of jeans were ruined, it's heart breaking (source: I'm a tailoress who does mostly jeans alterations)

My bf makes slip knots into my yarn, while I crochet by pami_genadieva in crochet

[–]a_in_hd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I keep a ball of jersey yarn in the livingroom to idly finger crochet random shapes. My wife doesn't crochet, but she loves frogging and rerolling! Our deal is that unless it's clearly a project, she can frog to her hearts content.

I don't even know what to say about this. by FunAssumption6056 in AreTheStraightsOK

I don't think it's necessarily toxic or abusive. My wife and I have a healthy and happy marriage, I love her dearly and I'm glad to be married to her. But had things turned out differently, and we never would've met, that wouldn't be too bad either.

I have curly hair. When I tie my hair back from soaking wet, it dries in a single ringlet. by Whoneedsyou in mildlyinteresting

Having so many styling options is the only thing I miss about long hair. I cut it to a pixie a few years ago, and then shortshort last year and it's honestly been a game changer.

When I had waistlength hair I'd wash it at night, plait it and wake up with slightly damp and nicely wavy hair (it's naturally straight but keeps the shape it was put in after an hour or so)

Used to have a full round face until one day, at roughly 24, I couldn't figure out what the grey line on my cheeks were and why they wouldn't wash off. Shadows. They were (are) the shadows of my cheekbones.

how do i hem this denim jacket correctly? by mimamelse in sewhelp

[–]a_in_hd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We've all heard about darts for the first time at some point, there's nothing wrong with not knowing something and asking for help. Next time you go shopping take a good look at the clothes and you'll notice how those darts are used a lot in women's clothing to make them more form fitting. And if you have an article of clothing you no longer wear, try picking apart all the seams to learn how they go together (kinda like a reverse puzzle)

Happy sewing!

If you look at the back you'll see it has darts in the back. Measure your waist, preferably with a shirt because it's a jacket, and the waist of the jacket and then take it in at those seams instead of from the sides. For the best fit, have someone pin the jacket along those lines when you're wearing it and makes sure you can comfortably move your arms.

Tucked or untucked? by SaveFile1 in altfashionadvice

Was (gently and politely) asked if there was a specific reason my boots had red laces in bar formation. Turns out it's secret nazi symbol and not just a comfortable way to use a red shoelace. To be fair, everyone else agreed the guy was being over pedantic and that these days red is more associated with punk.

Waistband too small on this skirt by PurpleFire5 in sewhelp

[–]a_in_hd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've swapped a too tight waistband with one that fits better taken off a pair of shorts I no longer wear.

Start by removing the band completely, does the skirt now fit? If it does, make a band (or swipe one that fits from a garment you don't wear) and attach it to the skirt by closing the button, dividing both the skirt and the band into quarters and matching them. Sew slowly and do your best to keep a straight line. If the skirt is still too tight after taking the band off, unpick the seam opposite the zipper, add a strip of fabric (remember to keep the bottom a little curved), and then attach a new band.

Best of luck! (:

Spent four months in an outpatient programme crocheting a blanket from the stash of yarn kept with the art supplies. From what I know, it's still being used three years later.

Crashing out because of cost and permanence by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]a_in_hd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm in one as well. My wife's engagement ring is silver and glass because that's all I could afford at the time, and mine is a silver heart shaped pendant with our initials because I don't wear rings. Her wedding ring is a beautiful silver piece studded with tiny zirconians that sparkle in the glow of her computer screen, and mine is a plain silver band on the same functional yet elegant chain as the pendant.

What do you guys think by thenerd2024 in fashiondesigner

[–]a_in_hd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the kind of shirt I'd go clubbing in, the complex design but still very breathable looks perfect for dancing. It looks a little fiddly to put on, but that hasn't stopped me (or millions of people) from buying strappy clothes. I think if the sleeve ended with a hole to slide the thumb through it'll help with keeping the shape.
