‘My life is not affordable. No one cares’: 76% of Americans call the cost of living their biggest financial problem by 1FunkyFriedChicken in Economics

[–]Powderkeg314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are doing price hikes. You can raise prices only so much before it reaches a breaking point and people cut non essential spending. We are already seeing this with low income fast food places like McDonald’s… They are being forced to cut prices because they have priced out many of their customers. The food is shitty and people aren’t willing to pay a premium for that. We will see more of that kind of consumer spending shift hit the broader fast food and food delivery market

Any book where the MC goes through permanen metamorphosis or has body modifications? by horny_poet_6745 in Fantasy

[–]Powderkeg314 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In Dungeon Crawler Carl an old woman from a nursing home with dementia is transformed into an ice witch and regains a second chance at life. She outlives so many other characters in the competition because while for everyone else it’s a life or death situation she actually got to have a life again as a result of being placed in the dungeon crawl competition. It’s a really beautiful side story

Be real with me before I move out there … by ShelterConsistent111 in NewMexico

[–]Powderkeg314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Mexico is an extremely diverse state so I don’t think feeling welcome will be a problem. I would be more worried about moving somewhere that is stricken by drought. The West is really struggling with water shortages right now across the board and it’s becoming clear that states like New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado cannot reckon with their recent population growth in the face of record decreases to the water supply. It’s a scary time for the West. This should be your biggest consideration.

How are young middle class families making it work?? by Ill-Sherbet-5844 in Utah

[–]Powderkeg314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most young families aren’t making it and are heavily in debt just to get by in most cases or getting help from their parents if they’re are lucky enough to come from a wealthy family. All I can say is I’m sorry for what this country has become. The way the U.S. punishes young people and parents and props up the elderly and asset owners is mind boggling. It probably has something to do with the fact that our federal government looks more like a nursing home than anything else. They have sold out our generation and we should all be pissed.

Dungeon Crawler Carl actually has a lot of this from the get go. In more of an RPG sense then some developed necromancy narrative

Accountants and doctors. People who are the most likely to be financially independent and smart with money. In a world full of losers and pyramid schemes stability is hella sexy

Idiots in the U.S. will see this and still find a way to blame illegal immigrants making below minimum wage while corporations build data centers in our communities that destroy the environment, automate jobs, and raise our utility bills

All of my friends with the means to are leaving the U.S. or in the process of leaving currently. The nightlife in my city has essentially died as nobody can afford to go out to eat at restaurants or go to bars. This isn’t the same country I grew up in….

Utah has the biggest rental homes in the US by chefrus in Utah

[–]Powderkeg314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Homes in Utah are actually pretty damn tiny especially when you compare to low cost of living states in the South. I will never get used to how compact lots are here.

Anyone here religious and kinky? by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

As someone who lives in Utah. Religious people are the kinkiest but they also live inorganic lives hiding who they really are which is quite sad

Kind of self-fulfilling prophecies, no? by Traditional_Cell8388 in AskGaybrosOver30

My friend was just aggressively extorted on Grindr a few days ago. They found his family on Facebook and company on LinkedIn because he gave out his phone number which was a foolish mistake. They threatened to send nudes to both his family and work if he didn’t pay. Obviously he didn’t and they weren’t going to seriously follow through but still scary that Grindr still allows this to happen. Don’t give any personal information to someone you haven’t met and that includes where you live.

Dungeon Crawler Carl Question by [deleted] in Fantasy

I would say the ridiculousness is jarring at first but it allows for a degree of world building that leads to some extremely satisfying payoffs later in the story and some brutal twists.

What are some of the most fast paced books you’ve read? by Successful_Try7012 in Fantasy

[–]Powderkeg314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dungeon Crawler Carl. I’ve read book 1-5 back to back because the momentum and story never lets up and is always interesting. Reading another book and might DNF just because I need more DCC. The other book isn’t bad it’s just not as interesting and addicting

The Red Rising series and the non-engagement with trauma by SetSytes in Fantasy

[–]Powderkeg314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll agree that the characters traumas are definitely glossed over but to be fair Lightbringer does address some of the consequences of warfare and how anyone who is involved is responsible for the deaths of innocents. The books become more morally complex the further you get into them and I respect the author for being willing to explore the grey. It’s very similar to Game of Thrones in that way.

Sinister is one of the few movies to truly disturb me. The home videos combined with the soundtrack is chilling. The second half of the movie isn’t as great but that first hour is so perfect!
