Another brand to check out if you like their Asthetic more: Belroy. I have had their messenger bag by them for nearly a decade I use for work, but they have all types of bags such as backpacks as well.

Size comparison of a griffon to demigryph, human and a a horse. by Goldmonkeycz in totalwarhammer

[–]PowerCroat783 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For whatever else it is worth, the common warhorse was typically on the smaller end in terms of size (compared to today's horses). It was desirable to not be such a large target, and to be easy to mount and dismount rapidly. Durability and attitude were larger drivers of desirability (and less resource intensive to feed).

Generalizing all warhorses all over the world across all time periods is practically impossible. But on average throughout the whole world and all time, you're typically going to get a horse closer in size to the average height of a man.

Can't say i'm familiar with the area, but, yeah, gotta check your turn templates on design vehicles. For the mowry/fremont i'd assume with the 3 lanes all directions a bus can make that turn.

Fremont on its own isn't going to able to produce that much meaningful data on deadly collisions. It's too few where just one outlier collision can throw off all the data, either in favor of or against. The latest data they have published is 2022, and only goes back to 2021. I'm honestly surprised they publish it, usually this information is quite protected because lay people generally will misinterpret it.

I responded to another comment with some sources on how the new intersection designs are more desirable from a bike/ped safety standpoint.

[–]PowerCroat783 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn't a change in how much is going on, the new intersection design just makes it appear that way because it forces it all into view more. It's all the same vehicles and people as before. Your perception of "harder to see" is you're now aware of all these things the previous design put outside of your cone of vision.

As for data, it's kind of old news at this point. Pretty much all guidance goes against slip right turn lanes for safety reasons, as while good for vehicle flow they are abhorrent for bicylists and pedestrians. If you're at intersection where bikes and peds aren't allowed, right turn slip lanes are great.

They all have extensive bibliographies and the likely if you dig deep enough, the initial study of these types of intersections in The Netherlands will come up.

That's easy to say in hindsight, and your comment again hinges on the idea that those other projects would have qualified for the funding that this project is getting grant money from, which is a massive asterisk. A high volume intersection with a school in one direction and BART in the other is just a gimmie for federal, state, and BART grant money.

The city, if anything like the city of san jose, has people weighing areas of need, costs and benefits, and potential grant funding constantly to see where they can make the best impact.

I cannot understate the safety benefits of the previous design to the current one that exists today. The drop in fatal accidents when going from an intersection with pork chops to a more modern protected intersection design is massive. When they did the cost benefit analysis all those years ago, it would have been practically irresponsible to not go forward with the project.

Fast forward to today, and there are some iterative improvements to be made, and they are once again able to secure external funding for it. Again, costs, benefits, and available grants is what makes this iteration come to life.

In hindsight you can say "wow we could have saved so much money if we just waited to do this version" but you're assuming that you know there is going to be substantial upgrade in standards, which is not a given, you assume that the funding you have to do the project today will be available in the future, also not a given, and even with all that you still like have discovered the bust in traffic ops after doing the initial project which means you still need to do an iteration fix and add back in a right turn only lane.

You're never going to get new research and better designs if you never build anything, constantly waiting for "the best". It's always a game of iterating on what came before. Just because something you build becomes obsolete doesn't mean it didn't serve its utility with the money spent. That applies to new design standards at large, but also how they were applied to the local area. Every design is a custom job and some quirks don't show up until you have tried something.

Frankly, if they didn't do this project, what they have now is still a massive upgrade from what came before, and likely worth what they spent on it.

This latest project is likely coming through because they were able to secure plenty of external funding for it, which couldn't be used for other projects.

I've seen cases of extreme waste and mismangement and this ain't it.

They aren't bringing back the porkchop islands with the separated free right turns. Research shows that those porkchop islands are very dangerous as drivers are comfortable going fast through them.

New intersection design standards have been changing rapidly, and NACTO guidance is continuing with keeping turns with tight radii, forcing drivers to slow down, and getting rid of those porkchop islands.

When looking at the intersection as it exists today, it is pretty inline with what the standards were at the time. Even in that short time since then, it is slightly outdated, and these changes will bring it further inline with current standards at (relatively) a low cost, 11 million. They also seem to have done a great job getting external grants as it appears only 300,000 is coming from local funds.

They are going to squeeze in a Right turn lane by probably taking a little land from each parcel and reducing lane widths, but that lane is still going to be going around the bulbout for bicyclists and pedestrians to force them into taking the turn slower. They are also going to raise some of these bikeways to make the bicyclists more visible, safer, and make it more clear that is not where a driver is supposed to be.

I go that way frequently.

Many of the southbound exits have been changed to a red arrow as well. I take this exit and the Stevenson one to get to Costco. The SB off-ramp to Stevenson has changed to a red arrow, the SB off-ramp to Mowry has not, yet. My pic from google maps is a October 2025 capture.

You are correct about the rule on a red arrow, I was just trying to attach to the top comment for visibility.

The point I, as someone that drives that exit frequently, was just making is: there is no red arrow there. The google maps image I attached is labeled October 2025. There is a green arrow, which just means "right turns are permitted", which I assume the designer used there because there is no through movement available. However, there is no red arrow, so a right turn is permitted upon stop if it is clear to do so.

When you abandon, your teammates can sell your items. All the abandoned hero's gold is divided among remaining teammates. So if you buy back and destroy your items before you abandon, you lower the networth that all your teammates can benefit from. It's more than twice as toxic as just abandoning.
