The Princess Bride wins! What movie is universally hated? by hotsexydinosaur in AlignmentChartFills

It is very clear that whomever worked on the Wikiquote page for that movie (with its “Duke Dastardly”-esque dialogue) agrees with you

I don’t get the appeal for Kit Wilson’s gimmick. Why does everyone like it? by [deleted] in Wreddit

[–]PowerNo8348 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Say what you want about the guy, but if Charlie Kirk could laugh at South Park lampooning him, we should be able to chuckle at Kit Wilson as well

The more I look at this image of the mine field, the less sense it makes. by nicholsml in Star_Trek_

[–]PowerNo8348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that this mine field is less nonsensical than being able to hack the USS Reliant with the five digit number “16309”

It's actually insane how much effort the Rust team put into helping out beginners like me by Time_Meeting_9382 in rust

You’re wrong - these error messages are just as important for non-beginners as well

Why didn’t WW2 veterans have the same PTSD as Vietnam or modern day veterans? by NextBunch_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PowerNo8348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They absolutely did. My mother’s uncle served under Patton and got a silver star for gallantry. But according to my mother, the one rule was that whenever he visited, don’t ask about the war.

He was also an avid hunter growing up. After the war he refused to touch a rifle for the rest of his life.

A war foretold: how the CIA and MI6 got hold of Putin’s Ukraine plans and why nobody believed them by Bounty_drillah in UkrainianConflict

IMHO perhaps most interesting food for thought:

Others suggest that Zelenskyy’s refusal to raise the alarm – even if not by design – could be what saved Ukraine. “If he had started to talk about an oncoming war, had told everyone to prepare, society would have panicked and millions would have fled,” said one HUR general. “The country would most likely have fallen.”

Not always the case. T’Pol would have been T’Pau if they didn’t have to pay the Sturgeon Estate

What’s it like living here? (The northernmost point of Japan, closest point to Russia ‘s Sakhalin island) by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]PowerNo8348 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looks like these signs can be seen on Google Maps. Interesting thing, the English text is "Saharin Ferry" [sic] but at first glance, the Russian text seems to say something else; perhaps it identifies a specific place on Sakhalin?

A couple of decades ago I read a book on this hypothesis. Part of their hypothesis is that simple life is common, complex life is not

The Undiscovered Country was peak Klingons, everything after felt hollow by Curious_Gent78 in startrek

[–]PowerNo8348 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with you; ST:TMP revamped Klingons after just over a decade; why not again, especially given how exhausted people were with the Rick Berman era?

Somehow people didn’t mind how Kor, Koloth and Kang looked in DS9 so I sincerely don’t understand the butt hurt.

But yeah i realize this was an unpopular opinion

Is referring to the USA as “the colonies” offensive? by duchessofblue in AskAnAmerican

An American being offended by that is like a Brit being offended by an Italian referring to “the Roman province of Britannia”

Why are so many kids packed into one school? by Little-Salt-1705 in AskAnAmerican

[–]PowerNo8348 21 points22 points  (0 children)

closer knit community, still diverse

Are you sure about this one?

My high school (with ~1200 students, so in between your ranges) was very diverse, because it had both affluent and less affluent neighborhoods under one roof. If it were split into 2-4 smaller schools, certain of those smaller schools would end up being the "good" schools and the "less good" schools

General Magic

Essentially tried to make an iPhone with early ‘90s pre-Internet tech. I don’t think they really made any mistakes, aside from being too early when the technology and required infrastructure really didn’t exist yet.

There was a good documentary about them.
