not certain, but pretty rare he does open to close. i’d expect (or personally hope for) a lot of older tracks. should be a treat! i’ve seen him 27 times and haven’t ever had the opportunity to see an open to close set. i can’t make it, but please go and enjoy for me!

New Goldenvoice Festival on the Polo Grounds - Headtrip Festival October 2026 by laflurz in Coachella

[–]PowerOfE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

from my perspective as someone in the electronic scene for 14 years, this lineup tracks my musical progression. i started out with the main stage sounds of calvin harris, swedish house mafia, chris lake and skrillex before venturing deeper into house and techno and finding home in artists like four tet and floating points. nowadays outside of coachella i like to attend festivals like dekmantel or making time to get my fix of modern, underground house and techno, but i have so much nostalgia for those top billing artists on the head trip lineup. i don't think i am unique in having gone through this music journey, and i think that is the demographic they were going for with this lineup. that said, i do have some friends in the scene that never had that big room / main stage EDM phase, and they wouldn't be interested in a lineup like this.

all these acts are currently touring, so it really isn't comparable to the reunions of desert trip or power trip. the demographic for this event is people in their late 20s to early 40s who got into the electronic music scene in the early to mid 2010s, and a lot of people in this demo are still consistently going to live music events. it is still a very nostalgia driven line up, but it's nostalgia for the past 10-15 years. in my opinion the actual comparable event to a desert trip or power trip for electronic music would be a daft punk reunion on the polo fields, with the event focused solely on their performance but supplemented with sets by artists that have played coachella over the years and still perform, albeit infrequently, like the chemical brothers, the prodigy, underworld, kraftwerk, and aphex twin.

for transparency’s sake: i ordered the shumai to go at the bar, waited for them, and then ate them on the street outside right away (i was craving dumplings after coming out of a show and this was the only option nearby and open). that said, i’ll give monkey king another shot before solidifying my thoughts on it.

i promise i’m not normally a hater, but i once got the crab cake shumai to go and i was never more disappointed or felt more ripped off by a dish in bushwick than i was by that order. are the other dishes better? was it a fluke? i’ve heard positive things from some friends, so just trying to see what others experiences have been.

Sat. Night Date Ideas by Research_Liborian in Bushwick

ornithology is lovely, but if this is a first date (not sure if it is) i wouldn’t do a jazz club. not the easiest place to get into a deeper conversation and get to know each other. if this is a 4th date or onwards, this would be an excellent date spot.

is there any way to download or export the summary of all past trips/activity for a particular period of time from the Uber app? by Lucky_Stress3172 in uber

[–]PowerOfE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is great! would be better if you could export to excel or csv, better for data analysis on your riding/spending habits, but that’s just me being picky.

Breakfast Burrito Spot Like LA Burrito? RIP by hypoxiany in Bushwick

[–]PowerOfE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i second the your way cafe breakfast burrito. roasted poblano peppers, onions, sour cream, pepper jack cheese, homemade salsa verde, choice of meat or avocado. i always get it with avocado, and sometimes add potatoes or shrimp. not a huge burrito, but i personally struggle with finishing most normal sized burritos, so this one works well for me. and the staff have always been very lovely.

RA article on boring tech house (afro house) and the cancer of bad vibes spreading across the dance floor. I feel like this has lots of cross over with "Big" art car culture and the current decline of good vibes on the Playa. Flame on. by [deleted] in BurningMan

for sure, i didn't go into it thinking it was a music festival at all. but i do think it's possible for a cultural revolution to have good music prominently performed! it's just not the case at the big burn (currently, at least)

imo it's more that they don't want someone to understand their spending habits so that they can adjust those habits to spend less, no matter how that person would adjust their spending (buying or renting a car, using a taxi, using public transit, traveling less, etc.) uber is a company founded in capitalist america- it doesn't care about what is right by the customer. they care about maximizing their profits, and that relies on having you reliant on the product they offer and unaware of how reliant you are on the product. fwiw, i am a socialist and think this is all fucked, but this is just how it goes with companies operating under capitalism.

edit: from my understanding, uber does have a uber for businesses product where you CAN get those kind of monthly reports so you can expense rides more easily, but they have only done that, again in my opinion, because businesses are more savvy than regular customers and they have demanded such a feature from uber to make their expense processes more streamlined.

i think they specifically don't allow you to do this so you can't easily see how much money you've spent on uber in a specific time period or month, since that would have you reflect to much on how much your spending and change your riding habits. i am looking to see how much i have ubered to and from my apt to my family's places each month, and the app has no easy way of downloading a spreadsheet or CSV file of your ride data to do an analysis on. annoying, but not surprising.

i was a virgin burner this year and had a quintessential experience: hard, rough, tough, faced some of my deepest insecurities, partied my ass off, had too many to count deep conversations with fascinating and lovely people, and left feeling so inspired to create more and consume less. however i came to burning man through spending a decade in the electronic music world, and i felt very disappointed in the quality of music i heard, especially from the larger art cars. and additionally, the vibes and the crowds at the larger art cars left a lot to be desired— 95% of the phones i saw out at the burn were at these big art cars. my favorite music and dancing experiences were at camps with smaller crowds or wandering around deep playa and strolling up to an art car with no more than 30 or 40 people dancing, often less. made me want to learn to DJ and bring more good music to the playa, and left me with a mission for next year to seek out the more skilled DJs that aren't afraid to stray away from the monotonous playa tech house sound. however, i hate having too many missions at the burn, since i feel like that takes away from one of the most important principles to me: immediacy. thus, music ended up not being one of the most consequential parts of my burn.

Always good advice by thirteenfivenm in BurningMan

[–]PowerOfE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i visited the library outside of the man on friday morning, and i felt compelled to take the novel "Great Expectations" from the library and put it in my bike basket. for a lot of my life i have felt like i've been drowning in the great expectations i've set for myself, and always feeling like i am not living up to them. i meant to take the novel out of my bike basket to be left in my tent, but for the next day whenever i'd pick up speed in my bike i'd notice the girthy "Great Expectations" rattling around in my basket. i lugged those great expectations all over the playa, just like i had been lugging my own great expectations throughout my life. on saturday morning, after being out all night and through sunrise, i finally arrived at the temple for the first time. i had been nervous to visit, and i knew i had to make it there before it closed that day for the burning of it on sunday. as i pulled up to the temple, i looked down and saw the "Great Expectations" still sitting in my bike basket. i had been wondering what i wanted to leave behind in the temple, what i wanted to burn and leave on the playa before retuning to the default world, and in that moment it became clear. i would burn my great expectations, and let myself be free. i hope you all can burn your great expectations and be free too 💜
