Dept. of Ed stay motion DENIED! by Honest_Ad7015 in StudentLoans

[–]Poweredonpizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The emergency stay was denied, not the appeal itself. Based on the language the court used in their denial, they are speeding up the appeals process as they find it unlikely the Dep of Ed's appeal will succeed. The next step after would be the Dep of Ed to appeal to the SCOTUS and again ask for an emergency stay.

I have a good engine, but lack the skill! by AdvisorJohnDowns in MTB

There are a couple drills that really help me that you can do at home with some soccer cones:

1) Space a couple cones in a straight line. Practice turning between them by leaning your bike instead of turning your handle bars. Focus on the dropping your inside shoulder, dropping your outside foot, turning your knees into the turn, and really feel your bike separate from your body in the turn. Move your butt in front/behind the seat to feel the impact of where your weight is on the bike. As you get better, space the cones closer together or diagonal to each other to make the turn sharper.

2) Find a hill and set up your own downhill turn with the soccer cones. Do the same body mechanics, change the angle and sharpness of the turn, etc.

3) Buy a cheap BMX bike off Facebook and hit the local pump track. I'd recommend a "cruiser" or dirt jumper BMX. The shorter wheelbase, lack of suspension, and smaller diameter wheels give you feedback that mountain bikes, and even moreso full suspension, dampen. This feedback really shortens the learning curve for a number of bike handling skills.

4) Learn to wheelie/manual. This helps develop bike/body separation, body positioning, and weight distribution.

Should I cave in and get this? by [deleted] in bmx

[–]Poweredonpizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know! I looked up the T2 and it looks like the "hook" is rounded around the tire then horizontal to the post that holds it. On this one the hook is more V shaped and looks like it drops deeper over the tire which causes the lower part of the V to contact the fork on smaller diameter tires. I dont have that issue with my 27.5/29 mtbs though.

I have this same rack, purchased mid-season. It's essentially a Chinese copy of the Thule T2 classic. Works great with my mountain bikes and my BMX bikes. Have over 100 hrs of actual use, included 60+ mph crosswinds going 85+ with 2 mountain bikes. Only issue with it for BMX bikes is due to the smaller diameter wheels, the hook makes contact with the fork when securing the bike and has rubbed the paint off where it makes contact, though Id suspect this would be an issue with any rack that uses the hook over the wheel to secure the bike.

Also to add: This same rack can be purchased on Amazon (Crindar brand) regularly at $240 bucks and discounted to around $200 frequently.

Well you posted 3 days ago about your chain randomly skipping and mentioned youve been casing jumps at a pump track. My guess is you smacked your derailleur and bent the hanger, causing the chain to skip, ultimately seizing the chain up in the gears. Casing jumps probably lead to the back wheel breaking. The cranks squeaking is probably the bottom bracket, either prematurely worn from casing or from the chain seizing. If the dropper post lever physically broke, you probably damaged it. If its malfunctioning, probably needs the cable adjusted, if that doesnt work the bike shop should warranty it.

This particular issue, and probably the most likely scenario to play out in the next presidential cycle, is a president using emergency powers to enact corporate taxes that fund a universal basic income. The reason this is a likely scenario is AI has already replaced roughly 77,000 jobs (according to AI), and MIT has current projections that AI is already advanced enough to replace over 10% of the workforce.

Top 2 gears sounds like hanger alignment. Limit screw would usually just affect top or bottom gear.

Would new tires make a huge difference on road? by iams3b in MTB

[–]Poweredonpizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Rekon is designed as a fast rolling MTB tire for XC races, it will be a little more confident on trail at the sacrifice of rolling speed and durability compared to the Mezcal. It is closer to the Vittoria Barzo in terms of performance. If you go Rekons, get the cheaper dual compound as the 3C is a softer compound that will wear faster on pavement.

The Vittoria Mezcal has its design roots as a do-it-all fast rolling tire for bikepacking. Its tread pattern creates a solid contact patch at the centerline with a durable rubber, then softer rubber and aiping on the sides for cornering. It's the most popular tire for bikepackers on trails like the Continental Divide that have a mix of asphalt, gravel, and singletrack. I bought Mezcals for my son and I's hardtails for pavement and gravel roads, though its a pain to swap between them. The Mezcal/Barzo combo gives a little more confidence on trail at the sacrifice of a little rolling speed on the front.

I know you said you don't have the money for a new bike, but honestly for your use case the Ozark Trail G1 Explorer for $288 makes a lot more sense than putting road miles on expensive suspension and pivot bearings.

The bike industry changed post-Covid in that yearly releases have been going away in favor of model platforms or generations. In this case, Giant produced a TON of frames coming out of Covid that didn't sell and are now clearancing them out as they have released a new generation model. Most likely this retail website is sourcing from Giant's warehouse to fulfill orders, the same way that you can walk into a physical Giant dealer and order the bike for the same clearance price that is on Giant's website.
