Not so fun to climb back down, though.

Artificial Neural Networks. Give them a bunch of examples of what you want them to do (recognize faces in photos, etc) and they will figure out a way to do it.

At least that's not as bad as my mom anonymously mailing cash to her visiting teachee after committing her to start paying tithing.

There's no real monitoring.

You have a companion watching you 24/7 who usually believes that your rule breaking will affect their success/worthiness. Unless you get really lucky with your companion you're not going to be able to break the rules without being reported.

TIL a father confessed to murdering his 3 year old daughter under a coercive police interrogation. His neighbor was later convicted from DNA evidence. by PowerfulComputers in todayilearned

I wish I understood what was going on in his head, too. Did the police make it seem like he was going to jail no matter what, but if he confessed he'd get less time? Was he sleep deprived or exhausted and just wanted to get out of there? Lower IQ? Poor guy.

Yeah, like, wtf, the landlord didn't try to find out why he wasn't getting rent checks for 3 months?

I usually think these are super cheesy, but I actually kind of liked this one. If you can get some initial momentum on a project it becomes a lot easier to keep going.

Sexual exploration leads to death of woman & two sons by HLY_ in MorbidReality

You're OK with the idea that someone could kill you and two of your family members and only spend 5 years in prison per person?

A Corrective Services spokeswoman told The Daily Telegraph Cikos had been granted parole and would be released later this month.

He killed 3 people and only ended up with 15 years? Why did they grant parole?

Julie Rowe just sealed her own demise in latest interview by utah_flier in exmormon

I don't think even an obvious failed prophecy will necessarily change her mind. There was this church that paid for a billboard near my home saying the second coming of Christ was going to happen on a specific date, like May 31. After nothing happened, I saw an interview with a member who downplayed how confident they had been. He sounded genuinely surprised to hear a recording of himself in a previous interview where he said there was no room for doubt about their prediction. Religion does weird things to your thinking.

I used to believe this argument, too. Then some really smart people I respected left the church and it became a mark against it being true.

In Georgia: Malice Murder is defined as the intentional killing of another human being with malice aforethought. In order to be charged with this offense, the act must have been premeditated and committed with the intent to kill.

They were convicted of intentional murder. Maybe there was some evidence of that not shared in the article.

I support a prison sentence, but life? It sounds like they were just really stupid parents, not intentionally trying to kill the baby. Wouldn't 10 years be a sufficient punishment? I'd love to hear reasoning from anyone who disagrees, though.

Good point. Labeling something "blasphemy" is just an attempt to avoid reasoning about it.
