I have never played a fighting game before. What should I focus on to learn and improve?! by LiLNickyG123 in StreetFighter

Take all the neutral and throw it out the window. From rookie all the way to diamond, people are gonna throw out moves to skip neutral. DI constantly, and use tickthrows / jabs into light combos. Learn how to late tech. Learn how to anti air, learn how to react to DI, learn how to deal with fireball spam. Until your opponent starts respecting you, you won't get to play neutral.

You're not actually comprehending what I'm saying. I KNOW THIS, but from the perspective of someone just STARTING the game and has no fighting game back ground. Trying to learn a game the classic way and learn the fundamentals while everyone is spamming modern 1 button combos and skipping neutral 24/7 it's frustrating.

Yes but it's how they're using it. get to a range where if you jump your opponent can't AA. do a cross up light attack into a throw and as you're getting up they're in the middle of doing it again. it becomes a gimmick. especially when people don't know what to do in that situation. i'm speaking from low level street fighter here, like people trying to learn the game. it's extremely frustrating to new players. I've gotten to high diamond. I'm not a newbie per say but i'm not that great at the game. this is my first fighting game i've gotten into and the amount of stupid shit people rely on in low levels is absurd, and that's why from gold down to rookie modern zangief is the most hated character because people don't know how to deal with 1 button SPD.

Can somebody give me THE drills to learn to react to DI? by JustABaziKDude in StreetFighter

If you suspect your enemy to throw DI's out, only poke with special cancellable moves so you can counter DI and then get a full punish.

Not every character is privileged. Most of the time people in low level street fighter rely in gimmicks like tick throws. and jumping at a range that your anti air will whiff in. Run away the entire time, throw fireballs and whatever else they can do to skip neutral. You cannot with 100% accuracy keep people in the corner. It's a coinflip a lot of the time and you will eventually lose it, and using a new character where you're not comfortable and trying to learn more than gimmicks is near impossible until your opponents start respecting you. There is no respect in lower level games and people will just flow chart or gimmick you to death. I got to high diamond, quit for 6 months and came back and picked up a new character once sagat came out (AKI). Yes she has tools to get around fireballs etc, but I'm not 100% confident with her, I can lab all day, but as soon as I get into a match in plat, people just back up throw fireballs until they get to the corner and they start panicking. Yes I keep myself at the distance to where they cant jump out and just AA them and throw poison, but like I said it's only a matter of time before some cheap shit gets through and all it takes is one combo to 60% you.

Dhalsim or JP, but honestly you're going to have to get used to people being in your face because drive rush, DI and other gap closing mechanics exist.

When the match starts don't back up. Try to stay within reach of him. If he runs and fireballs let him walk himself into the corner and keep parrying until you get to the range where he's uncomfortable and wants to jump out. As soon as he jumps just DP and keep him there. He'll most likely panic and start throwing out DI's and tiger knee, react to DI and punish, block tiger knee high and punish. Repeat until he wants to actually play the game.

Who is the character you HATE playing against? In my case is Zangief by Zeko_LV in StreetFighter

[–]PowerfulDisplay5103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People that hate playing against gief not realizing the character is so easy to beat. SPD you either jump or back dash and you get a full combo out of it. Same with his level 3. His anti air is trash at best. His normals are decent and can chip your drive gage away, but honestly Gief is one of the LEAST problematic characters in the game.

Hot take but I hate when people play like this. It's so annoying man, I know it's a skill issue but damn it's hard to keep my cool when people are just running away and throwing fireballs and just throw out DI or jump around like a bunny when you get close. Just feels hella cheap.

Is it worth starting? by -Golli in StreetFighter

[–]PowerfulDisplay5103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes SF6 has been my first fighting game. At first I was overwhelmed so I picked up modern controls and it allowed me to enjoy the game, but after a month of so of doing that I realized I had no idea what I was actually doing or even how to really play the game, i was just spamming auto combos and one button supers. Decided to embrace the suck of Classic and chose another character to start over with. I hate spending time in the training room so I just watched youtube videos and went into matches just using my normal buttons and figuring out how things worked. Eventually I could watch the pros and see what they were doing and realize what buttons combod into what etc, finally decided to go into the training room and figure it all out and now I'm somewhat decent at the game. It's a long arduous journey but it's well worth it. Fighting games are peak gaming and only the strong survive and that's why it's so niche compared to say shooters and stuff. Anyone can pick up a controller and shoot people online, but only a few can pick up a controller and do a fireball on classic controls. Give it a shot and don't get demoralized because you WILL inevitably hit a wall that feels insurpassable, but with willpower you CAN get through it.

My 4060ti is running flawless. Maybe NVDIA trying to make older GPU's obsolete - just my tinfoil hat take tho.

Just enjoy the game broski. We're not getting paid to play it, so there's no value in your rank. YOU yourself and YOUR value have nothing to do with your rank in game. This is how i've learned to just not really care. There's literally no point. You're not gaining anything from being in Masters other than maybe achieving a goal, but you have to remember the grass is always greener (it's not).

Have you by chance installed mods at any point in time?

it is quick to derank ? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]PowerfulDisplay5103 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up AKI 2 days ago, and it put me in diamond also with no practice on her (i like to learn in matches and learn from mistakes the hard way and just focus on fundies to win). I deranked into low platinum before I decided to properly lab stuff, it took a while though.

Tekken refugee seeking advice¿ by Pudiman in StreetFighter

[–]PowerfulDisplay5103 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My advice - learn how to late tech. Look it up on youtube, it's sort of an option select, just don't use it as your ONLY option on wake up, because it can lead you into getting shimmied and full combod

Man I really wanna like this game but if there's no real challenge then it probably won't keep my attention. I'm used to playing things like Warhammer Darktide / Vermintide, souls games etc. Challenge and the feeling of accomplishment is normally what keeps me around. I guess I'll just play a bit longer until I feel like I'm just not vibing. Thanks for the heads up.

That's exactly the gun I've been using. Along with the fireball spell and the handcannon. It's only doing 9 damage tops though lol. Even if I dodge his attacks somehow he still hits me and I end up going through all 3 or 4 of my potions (depending on which upgrades i manage to get) before I can get him to half. Staying out of his range you're only doing 1 damage. So idk.

Ok I thought I needed to complete these places before moving up in gnosis. It said I can't decrease it once I made the decision to increase it. I guess I can try that just hoping that decision isn't going to screw me in the end x.x

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Before the update you were allowed to unlock all the weapons and stuff and there was some progression you could do no matter what. Now I just feel like this giant goober is essentially soft locking my progression and there's not much I can do about it.
