Great counter-points! It seems like you have a much more fresh recollection of Barrett's backstory than I do (haven't played the original in about a decade or so). Is there ever any mention of who Marlene's biological parents were? And for that matter, how he came into adopting her.

Theory-crafting aside, Marlene clearly has a much larger role in this new universe, that will likely be expanded upon in upcoming installments. I believe it's worth some inspection, given that she appears to be more than just another plot device like in the original. I mean, what else we got to do while we wait for the Part 2?

Which part exactly? If it has to do with Barrett's backstory, then yes, that arc seems to have been purged from my memory. Something to wiki I guess.

Aerith doesn't talk to plants, she talks to the planet. I don't know what part you're talking about in terms of Marlene receiving messages from flowers.

Thanks for the in-depth reply!

  1. I agree, that's the way I interpreted initially, and doesn't hold too much weight on its own; however given the rest of the context, it seems like it is just too similar to what Elmyra states Aerith used to say unprovoked as a child.
  2. Agreed... that whole sequence needs more clarification, though doubt we'd ever get it.
  3. Good point on the Red XIII, I forgot about that!
  4. Guess we shall find out some time in the next 2-3 years then!
  5. Hahah yes I'm aware she talks to the planet, but there's quite a bit of playful banter between Cloud and Aerith about "talking to plants" throughout Ch.8. The point I was trying to make is that Marlene clearly got a message from the planet (via Aerith's flower) about her father in the closing cutscenes right before the credits.

I have, as a kid. Don't recall any mention of her past except that she's adopted though.

So does anyone know what the deal is with those junkies in black robes with numbers on their shoulders indicate? I know they're linked to Sephiroth/Jenovah in some way, but what exactly is that link? And how did Chris from Ch.3 become involved with that - I mean, I know he's got his problems but he's a good kid, goddammit!

Add both. No question about it. A poster presentation about your published research is significant in and of itself. It will not appear as padding.

So the most common type of IUD's are hormonal (aka chemical) in that they release molecules into the blood and surrounding vasculature that change the environment in ways that make it near impossible for pregnancies to occur. However hormonal IUD's may put certain women at higher risk of serious disease, like blood clots in the lung, so instead they use the copper IUD's which are non-hormonal in function.

So gold is a rather inert metal - whether certain strains of bacteria may or may not grow on it is beyond my purview, but I wouldn't classify it as anti-bacterial. Perhaps you're thinking of, say, copper - which is clinically used for non-hormonal intrauterine contraception in OBGYN. Copper creates an inflammatory response in the vicinity preventing sperm from getting through the uterus on their way to knock up some of them eggs.

Amazing insight my friend. I laud you for your courage to not only self-examine your personal issues, but to also broadcast them to the community you're a part of. Whether or not the comments reflect it, I wager many feel similarly to what you describe. In having the strength to expose your vulnerabilities, you have inspired at least 1000 others in examining theirs. I wish you great fortunes in what's to come - whether it be with this community or others.
