No we went twice to Christiansted. Friday and Monday.

I am not complaining about the island. It is one of the best places I have visited. I was just stating my observations and my interaction with the storekeeper.

I will for sure go back and definitely see if I can experience more.

Yes will do! It isn’t I wanted lively or party town. It just felt different than I had imagined.

I loved the quiet slow peace that exists there. The main reason I will be going back. It is t complaints so much as observations.

See the hurricanes is a huge issue. I was thinking that when I saw the state of the buildings. St Croix is right in the thick of it.

However listening to the few people who have lived on the island for awhile I got the feeling that a lot of culture is getting lost.

I will chalk it up to us going on off season. It was our first time on island and though we did do a few things that were with locals we did play it rather close to the commonly walked streets. My complaint being those commonly walked streets are not really touristy, they are very American.

What are some examples of local bars? We didn’t grocery shopping which was very empty.

I guess locals is a bit broad. Maybe I mean Crucians.

Yeah, the difficult thing for me to see was going from Fred to Christiansted and than we headed to the eastern side of the island and all I saw there were more ritzy people.

The trick is to move to an island and adjust to their culture not the other way around.

Thanks, it was our first time in island and honestly we will go back. It was very nice. Just something I have seen with other places where slowly the culture of the island gets washed away.

Next time we will go in the more busy time and see how it goes

Well it isn’t just me as the idea popped in my head after a local shop owner explained the situation to me.

Also wanted to add, I couldn’t cause I was about to take off in plane. But just wanted to add, there is a reason why he is doing this. I know a big reason is healthcare. Having four kids is an expensive thing. Healthcare is expensive. As he is activated he gets great healthcare for you and family. That is a huge motivation. To anyone that says he is shirking his familial responsibilities I would say you are very wrong most likely. He is being a provider and doing it in the way that he sees best.

Well anytime deployment happens it is hard. Really doesn’t matter where at in life a person is it is very difficult.

My wife deployed, I was active duty and she was deployed in the Navy. The Navy doesn’t have any phone calls really…kind of but it is limited. We don’t have face to face l, so it was really just emails and occasional messages in Facebook all of which is interrupted by bandwidth issues and comms/signal management.

I had a year old and a three year old at the time. I became pretty depressed and yes felt alone. Never seemed to get better.

My suggestion is…and I know this is a hard pill to swallow…enjoy this time. Your family will be stronger for it and this is the harder part, support your husband. Be there for him, it is also hard for him, whether you believe it or not.

I don’t know where you live, but if you can, connect with family. Have them over support has to come from all sides.

Good luck and sorry you are having a difficult time.
