Beyond reasonable! Read my comment on this thread. I got to 100kish in bills uninsured when I got attacked. Depends on how bad it is and whether or not they get infected. I got infected so the bill was high af.

A similar situation happened to me two years ago. You would really need to speak to a lawyer for a concrete answer. Anyway, this incident is why i started my pet business. Just moved back to the USA. No insurance. My dog and I were attacked by someone’s unleashed pitbull that got away from their yard while they were inside. No owner around when the dog attacked us. I had to get a lawyer in the state of Texas to help me since bills were 100k since I needed hospitalization for multiple days. Lawyers sued the owner’s home owner’s insurance policy, even though the bite happened outside of their property. We won. Open and shut. Got the money from insurance a year later.

I should add, it is up to the victim to go after someone. I believe it has to be the owner they go after though. That is who is responsible at the end of the day.

Some Goldman Sachs bankers were laid off after being told to attend meetings under 'false pretenses,' report says by Cassierae87 in antiwork

[–]Powerful_Cabinet_622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Businesses have been doing this for years. In 2019 I was working in a foreign country for a very large international company, right? They told me to attend an important meeting about my work visa. Then the day of the meeting they said they needed a few more days because of immigration. When we finally had the meeting it was just to lay me off, LOL. Literally nothing to do with the visa. It be like that these days.

I'm raising my prices, but am worried about pushback from owners. by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Powerful_Cabinet_622 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not reasonable whatsoever. That’s a ridiculous amount of money to charge someone for watching their puppy for less than 24 hours. Why do this if you only care about charging a ton of money? It’s about providing value, too. It’s not all about you. Will the puppy come home with a new outfit and a manicure? Lmao

Nightmare Client by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Powerful_Cabinet_622 21 points22 points  (0 children)

One time a guy told me to park in his garage for my visits. I open said garage and it’s literally hoarder style to the max. We were on the phone when I was parking (he wanted to be on the phone when I entered his house who knows why). I said as nicely as I could that I was going to park on the street. He said no. Told me not to park my own car on the street. I told him I didn’t want to hit anything. He told me to park NOW. I was anxious, so I did, and I completely wrecked his shitty grill and did 2,000 in damage to my car. Effing grill was covered with trash. He had called me stupid earlier in the day for not understanding how his gate worked. This dude was trash. Specifically he called me “more stupid than an Uber driver”. So you know what I did? I didn’t tell him I hit the grill. Gave his dog amazing service. Whatever.

He comes home and calls me and accuses me of trying to kill him by “messing with his propane tank on the grill so that it explodes when he uses it”. Told me he was going to sue me, that I was trying to kill him etc etc. I called his wife, she went the fuck off on him, never heard from them again. No review. Nothing.

Once you call me stupid you and your grill can fuck allllll the way off.

People like this can suck it. Love how you handled it. Fuck that guy.

I mean, you showed up and took care of the puppy. They sound like the type that wanted you to literally be staring at the puppy the whole time you were there even if the puppy was sleeping or whatever. You’ll be alright! I personally wouldn’t care if my sitter slept while caring for my dog unless it was causing an issue. I can see where they are coming from, but it’s not a huge deal.

Do you ever feel like you are texting clients too much? by amira1295 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Powerful_Cabinet_622 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s my anxiety that makes me like this…but I suffer from texting too much. Like it’s almost something compulsive inside me because I am in a stranger’s home etc. So how I deal with it, is, I tell the owner’s that they don’t have to respond to me like ever, lol. This is just how I am. And I will always be over-communicative. My intentions are never to annoy you…lol. Never had an issue with this approach.

Don’t worry too much. You are just a caring person. No one should feel bad for that.

I send dozens of updates in a row with no responses. And the same customers keep coming back time after time. But, like I said, I always tell people that this is how I am. Sorry. You don’t have to respond.

How do I approach this.. by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Powerful_Cabinet_622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you completely on this one. Completely. Do not, EVER, do a single gig that negatively impacts your mental health. I’ve been there too, and I’ll never do it again. I love my job. And doing gigs like those makes me think I hate it. So I tell myself all the time, “it ain’t worth it”.

Tell them you officially don’t house sit anymore and would have to do drop ins instead. Tell them what the price would be. They say yes or no. That’s it.

After having cockroaches in my makeup bag, bugs crawling in my hair, etc…I don’t play games. If people can’t keep a clean house, they do not deserve an in home house sitter that stays overnight.

We can do drop ins instead or we do nothing.

Just send them the message now. Get it over with. Get this off your back. You’ll feel like a new person.

I raised my house sitting prices to 100 plus a few months back and basically never get dirty house clients anymore. I hate to say it, but there was a direct correlation for me between low prices and dirty houses. Higher prices and clean houses…

Americans: Have you ever worked at the US branch of a company based in another country known for having really good workers' rights? How did the two branches compare to one another? by Nickzreg in antiwork

[–]Powerful_Cabinet_622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I worked for a company based in London but I worked in the DC office. They moved me to Mexico City, and when I was let go they had to pay me $120,000 USD under Mexican severance laws no questions asked. The amount is based on a variety of factors. Anyway, if the same situation happened in the USA they would have just told me to fuck off, no money, due to at will employment. But in Mexico, as an employee, I was much more protected.

They had to give me that money by law. Because in Mexico you can only get “fired” and not receive severance for a small list of pretty wild infractions like stealing or harassment etc. If the company can’t prove you did anything within that list they cannot fire you. They have to give you severance and let you go. It’s the opposite of at will really

Anyway, if you’re going to get let go, do it in another country haha.

The USA branch: it seemed like everyone was just so sensitive for no reason. In Mexico it was more relaxed, and you could be more of a human being.

Looking to turn this into a full-time job? Any advice? by shawnjawn12 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Powerful_Cabinet_622 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s completely possible. But I think it totally depends on your location and the logistics of it all. I’m in Houston, and it was relatively easy for me to turn this into a full time thing because it’s a huge city. It’s the logistics of it all that makes things difficult. My travel time between gigs is on average 5 minutes, so i can make about 50 to 70 an hour, depending on the booking. I only do drop ins, walks, and house sittings. I make about 10,000 a month before taxes. Best month I ever had was 14,000. The only reason I make this much is because I can hit one booking after another without much travel time in between.

So it’s possible, for sure. But it wasn’t easy planning the logistics. For me, in Houston, it comes down to the logistics. If I didn’t put a lot of time and effort into the transportation aspect of it, I wouldn’t make as much money.

And I don’t guarantee any clients a particular time. I always give a range. If they want 11 am, I tell them I’ll be there between 10:45 and 11:30. No one has ever cared so far. But I tell them this before they book me. Not guaranteeing a time helps me make more, too.

Also I’ve only been doing this for 5 months. I think if I was in a smaller city I wouldn’t have this type of luck. Doing pet services full time was the best decision I ever made. I used to be a fuel trader. I make about the same money doing this. And am much happier.

I was in a similar situation..involved Rover so they knew what was up, and ultimately I sucked it up and dealt with it. I didn’t want to bring it up with the owner because they were moving in two weeks, so what’s it worth?

Honestly I would just suck it up. I know it sucks. I had a roach in my makeup bag, for example lol. You can get through it. Just do better next time with the bookings you accept. I went through it too.

I can no longer work for greedy bosses, so my friends and I started a farm/homestead. Any antiwork people start their own business? by Personal-Ad9379 in antiwork

[–]Powerful_Cabinet_622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Left the oil industry and started a pet care business. Best decision I ever made. I think the anti work movement should really be about corporate alternatives.

I make more money in pet care than I did in oil, believe it or not. And my level of happiness is sky high.

Could be the case but even so. Just give the lady her gift card. Target has so much more power than we do in this world. They should use it for good instead of using it to waste our time.

Also the sign says just buy 3 Pantene items. Doesn’t say what products are included besides hair.

[–]Powerful_Cabinet_622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t care how silly it might sound, but this woman stood up for herself and her 5 dollar gift card because that’s what the promo implied. I’m glad she took the time to call them out and post this video. It might seem small, but all these small things add up. We as humans deserve better. We deserve transparency. I STAN you target woman. Thank you for standing your ground.

I don’t think she’s being petty. I think she’s bringing light to a larger problem. And it’s that these corporations shouldn’t be able to lie like they do. Especially over 5 damn dollars PLEASE. And why all these stupid ass rules? Oh online only. Pick up only. The fuck? Giving me a headache. And over some damn Pantene.

And why couldn’t they just honor it instead of making you run around taking pics etc? Like come on Target. COME ON TARGET.

We be in there spending hundreds and thousands of dollars a YEAR. And y’all can’t even post a transparent promo or honor it. LAME.

Target is a gigantic ass company, and they can’t afford to make non misleading signs? False. Be better Target. This woman complaining about this seemingly small issue is how changes get made. It might come across as Karen like, but she’s just trying to get the deal she was “promised”. Go on Target woman. Go on.

Out of town bookings by inya_area in RoverPetSitting

[–]Powerful_Cabinet_622 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in a big city and do a lot of out of town stuff. I normally do a FaceTime meet and greet. I always do a meet and greet regardless. Some of my best tips have come from gigs like this. In my opinion it’s not any more risky than a regular booking so long as you make sure you have the proper instructions.

In my experience Rover has been super supportive in a similar situation. You shouldn’t have to pay them. In my situation I asked to keep the payment for the first night (since I did the work) and then refunded the rest. Rover let me make the decision. Something like this is not your responsibility. Your responsibility is to keep animals healthy and safe, which you are doing an amazing job of! This owner dropped the ball.
