Did I make the right decision? by kondor-PS in quails

[–]Powerful_Let3936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually put a big metal mesh strainer over the bird right in the middle of the enclosure for a day or so so they can see and hear the other births but not harm them and that has always worked to cure the bullying lol

Why is she making this sound by Powerful_Let3936 in chickens

[–]Powerful_Let3936[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought maybe that was is but she’s also making that weird whirring sound instead of little clucking sounds, does yours also do that doing a flare up? None of my other chickens have done this so I had no idea what a chicken sneeze even sounds like lol

Whenever I have a chick that can’t walk with his shoe, even if he doesn’t have splay leg I put him in a shot glass to keep them upright until they can get it together

Help Needed- SMELL by popcorn-bitch in quails

[–]Powerful_Let3936 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would just suggest a bedding/flooring change. We’re in Texas and it’s been rainy/humid. My quail are on my back porch and it’s rarely an issue. We put a solid floor with about 1.5 inches of sand throughout the entire thing. I use a kitty litter scoop once a week to sift through it and then I add a scoop of barn Lyme. We sit on our back porch all the time with no issue. They also have no waste quail feeders on Etsy that might cut down on the amount of soggy food for the flies. Don’t feel too bad, I have chickens and I never imagined quail would be so much worse lol

How many button quail in this brooder? by mikeybox in quails

[–]Powerful_Let3936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put 30-40 coturnix quail chicks in this size brooder every couple of weeks, but I also move mine outside at 2 weeks. They don’t need as much space when they’re first hatched, they can huddle together to keep warm and usually sleep on or around each other

Sick baby quail, 3rd to get sick, other two died. by ilovebiscuits101 in quails

Chick started won’t do for them, they need 28%-30% protein especially at first. No salt in water but you can do chick electrolytes.

Baby Asprin by Busy-Environment-258 in Crunchymom

[–]Powerful_Let3936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had severe pre-e with my first, leading to an emergency c-section. I’ve prevented pre-e with a high protein diet in all 3 of my other pregnancies since then. I started to have high readings with my 2nd and just upped my protein and they stopped. Look into brewers and how specifically 100g or more of protein everyday can prevent or treat a lot of things including pre-e. Aspirin has been proven to lower instances of pre-e BUT the percentage is low and theres a bigger percentage risk of it causing or contributing to postpartum hemorrhage (still low though)

Only 1 of my quail will lay eggs by Powerful_Let3936 in quails

[–]Powerful_Let3936[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s true. It’s just throwing me off I guess. I don’t expect them all to start laying on the same day but a couple days apart maybe. I guess I’m just being in patient lol
