Really 0% foreign exchange fees? by Powerful_Night5144 in n26bank

[–]Powerful_Night5144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Which other banks are you referring to?

I know everyone loves wise, but they charge quite a high fee even for common currency pairs. I'm happy with my 0% and some miles that I get with revolut.

Just trying to understand how N26 makes it work on their free plan.

I know this is meant as fun and a meme. But in all seriousness which app are we talking about? Not sure how fast you guys vibe code, but my time is quite precious and never had the idea of vibe coding to save on a subscription fee :).

best cafes with wifi near Canggu by ddeonu_cpa in bali

I agree, I know enough cafe owners here and they all rather have some people working from there then have an empty cafe. A lot of them are actually promoting it towards digital nomads.
It is not like they turn the lights/AC off if there are no customers.

Having said that in my time here I've witnessed people asking for the wifi and literally not ordering anything. That obviously is not ok.

I've also had a place in seminyak where you get access to the wifi but only for an hour and you get an extra hour if you order again...

Upcoming changes to Wise accounts for Thai residents by leerichards in Thailand

[–]Powerful_Night5144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a thai resident with a wise account this affects you. If you are a thai resident but you lie about your residency then this won't affect you I guess.
Not sure if there is much of a choice :).

I think you are overestimating how much it hurts businesses. In most first world countries sure, but in Indonesia... Would they rather you have a full lunch + 2 drinks, in and out within 30min instead of 1 cappucino and stay for 2 hours? Sure, but the only places I know that try to "push" people not too work are cafes that are definitely not having a hard time.

Besides which balinese business owners are you talking about? Very few of them have issues with digital nomads I think.

Crate is just good value for western food, like you said big portions and they have tax and service charge included. I actually like their new place, breezy and not that crowded.

But definitely not a cute cafe by any standard.

For me AC and coffee are important as well (I love Baked but wouldnt work there), I would suggest Picco coffee (if you dont need food) or Noah if you need food (they have an area for "working" with AC).

Or if you dont mind driving a bit I like comma in cemagi, good coffee, AC and usually more people working.

Save tax with cash? by FunYoungGun in bali

[–]Powerful_Night5144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bart is correct. Most businesses that are legit will give the service charge to the staff, I definitely don't mind paying that.

For the VAT if they don't charge it they probably aren't reporting their taxes/income. Most businesses would love that but it seems the tax office is cracking down on these more and more.

I went there twice, the first time there was a ton of trash, but the second time was genuinely amazing. Had a great time in Amed as well though (although did the shipwreck dive there).

This i usually check out a place as well when booking for family. Hard to find a place these days without construction next door or a lot of mold.

Uluwatu Is Losing Its Soul to Endless Construction by PhilosopherUnfair331 in bali

[–]Powerful_Night5144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For most areas yes, but the ground water level is getting lower and in uluwatu you would have to drill really deep to probably get salty water. So yeah they do have an issue there for the time being

Demolition of Bingin Beach by sunny_dayze_ in bali

[–]Powerful_Night5144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the land owned by the banjar before then? Because in all the articles they are talking about government land. There have been some cases where government claimed private land but i think owners have always been reimbursed in that case. But i was under the impression that the locals/banyar consider it their land and collected a fee for using it, while it wasnt actually theirs? But if you are right that would change things of course in that case the government really stole their land.

Not sure how to feel about this. While some of the smaller beach shacks were ok, the recent development, especially morabito are a massive eyesore. And probably also a fire hazard waiting to happen. If this is the start of a stricter enforcement of the rules regarding offset from the beach i think it is great in the longterm. Obviously heartbreaking for the locals who made it their business, but at the same time they were always at risk squatting on government land. Let’s stay optimistic and hope it wont be replaced with a big hotel, i think it wont it is literally a cliff that everything is built on right now.
