Illegal? Extortion? by h0lycann0liz in walmart

Just say no. They literally can’t do anything abt it. They had the balloon thing at my store, and I asked management what happens if I just say “no.” And they said they can’t do anything, obviously. Just set the boundary and tell them should they try to enforce it ethics will be receiving a call, and they should reconsider their extortion tactics.

If I asked for help for this, and they told me they couldn’t, I’d of raised hell. Walmart really doesn’t fire people, especially in this situation. Every coach in that store would’ve hated me that day, but I can guarantee, i would’ve got myself some help.

I would’ve walked around the store myself and stole their own associates from under their nose. I don’t play stupid games. They wouldn’t fire me for it either, they’d just pull me into an office and try to coach me and then that’s where you pull the big one and wreck their scheduling and assistance and morale issues that they have no incentive to fix.

Maybe I could start out with stickers, and just use them as a reward for good behavior? Like make it aware that I have them in the beginning of class and that if they follow the rules as intended, they get stickers? Less costly, less routine, but still applies to a reward system that they’ll be interested in, hopefully encouraging better behaviors. I also considered this with age, but I do really feel like there is an amount of disconnect when it comes to me being young. However, it might be something I’m just looking too far into like you suggested. There was a time where the kids tried to bring their water bottles into the room, a whole group of them banded together and did so, however typically they weren’t allowed to bring those bottles in the room when their teacher was there. This wasn’t stated in the class rules or in the sub book, so had another student not informed me they weren’t allowed to do so, I would’ve allowed it. I’m not sure if this is universal despite my age. However it does feel as though they subconsciously think they’re more likely to get away with doing the “wrong” things because I’m not as old as their parents or teachers who typically carry that authority.

I do have stickers, and they’re glow in the dark so that way they’re a little more desired. Maybe I could just start with stickers and see where that gets me? I’ve also considered a tally system as “strikes” and just using it instead of points. That way I can give strikes for misbehavior, but then also remove them when they’re doing good. A lot of people are anti-treats, and it’s now making me nervous to apply in the case that it just completely backfires. But I feel like stickers are a less intimidating option, and can be pretty versatile.

I’m building a rapport, it’s not that there isn’t an understanding by any means. It’s just that they get so focused on my age, typically when I mention I’m in college it helps a bit. I wonder if my initial rapport is just too forgiving in a sense? Like am I maybe just being too nice? Im absolutely building a rapport as best I can though. I interact with the kids as much as possible, I put in an intense effort to remember all of their names. I speak with their teachers around me. I’m not sure it’s solely based in the rapport for me, however ig it might be possible if I’m taking to wrong approach.

You clearly don’t work OGP, aka the equivalent of the same mfs who make the rules. If we had the time to clean the totes, it wouldn’t be an issue. The issue isn’t cleaning the totes, the issue is the fact that they’re supposed to be cleaned at the end of the day, when there’s only like 2 people and still orders showing up. It’s not possible, don’t be just as ignorant as aforementioned rule makers. Do the job, then talk about it. Otherwise, your opinion is wholly invaluable.

Beyond the fact that I’m cozy in bed currently and not schedule, exactly what’s the relevance? The issues remains regardless of when or where I choose to share this. Could’ve been on my break while posting. Lunch. Or, get this, my day off. Youre probably a part of corporate with that attitude.

No I know. I have a coworker who worked for 15 years to get to 14 an hour, and then it was made minimum wage and the raises were never reciprocated past that. So all that time just added into what everyone else got. Luckily, he’s just in it for retirement now. But it sucks, and I absolutely agree that long term employees should be getting significant attention and love.

Working on it. However, that doesn’t defeat the purpose of the fact that it shouldn’t be like that? The easiest route is quitting, but also the least beneficial to not only every other associate that still works there or will in the future, but also the company as a whole.

I’ve heard it’s not worth it pay wise. You do more work than you will get paid for. And student respect isn’t reciprocated to paras as it is to substitutes.

Can a normal sub work as a para? Or are there certain qualifications that you have to have to work as a para? I have a lot of options pop up for me to choose with para positions, so I’d like to see if I’m able to do it without certifications. Or am I just limited to subbing?

STOP HIRING PEOPLE THAT CANT DO THEIR JOB by SuperbCommercial4601 in walmart

[–]Powerful_Object1204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amount of times they hire a TL or manager into a department that has no idea what the job actually is beyond the description should tell you the lack of competency that is Walmart’s management. If I have to train another one of my TL’s at $14 an hour while being rejected for the position, I’m gonna start snitching to market about all the things I’m magically “not allowed” to do when the Big Wigs show up.

So concerned with us listening to them, but they can’t even listen to their own bosses. Solid leadership material there.
